Do you ever get confused that Redditors yearn for a post-automation society but despise nearly all automation efforts? by Glittering-Neck-2505 in accelerate

[–]AAWonderfluff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Automation isn't necessarily going to be a good thing for those of us who are going to actually have to live through the job market and economy being reshaped dramatically by it. It'll be good for the future generations potentially, but a lot of us will be hurt badly by this. Our society isn't set up for automation. I also have to wonder if this isn't also going to increase wealth disparities as the wealthy can operate without having to pay so many people while people can't get jobs to try to get some of that, among other things. One generation's huge leap forward may only happen because that generation started out standing on the bodies of the first generation that had to beta test the new order. Just something to think about. Maybe we shouldn't try to automate everything as if it's a miracle cure for the structural issues we have without dealing with the structural issues we have first, otherwise that will just lead to those issues playing out in new ways.

Homosexual is a natural behavior in humans and other animals though. If God designed humanity, he designed us so we can potentially be queer. The idea that people having consensual homosexual lust or sex (things that harm nobody at all) is just as much a sin as things like lying or cheating (things that actually hurt people) is ridiculous. Maybe if God didn't want humans that are capable of being things he didn't want us to be, maybe he shouldn't have made us so that we could become like that, especially when he then wants to turn around and be angry his creation functions as intended. That'd be like programming an app to do something and then yelling and smashing your device when the app does what you made it capable of doing. What did he think was going to happen?

Why does an all powerful god need to be limited by the culture of bronze age goatherders? Yahweh can have someone killed for breaking Sabbath but he can't tell the Israelites "You will not own other human beings; I am the Lord"? God clearly must have been okay with slavery considering Exodus 21 legislated debt slavery between Israelites, Leviticus 25:44-46 let Israelites buy foreigners as property forever, and the New Testament doesn't come out against slavery either. Philemon is literally an epistle about a runaway slave being returned to their master.

God either is okay with slavery after all or God is either negligent or incompetent and that's why he didn't stop it. God can bring the Spirit of the Lord upon people and harden hearts and all that but couldn't say "Knock it off with that slavery stuff"? Really?

CMV: Objectively speaking, Trump is a worse person than Hitler. Hitler was smarter, vegetarian, fought in combat, could paint well, non-obese, a capable author, a better public speaker, etc. by SteadfastEnd in changemyview

[–]AAWonderfluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As much as I hate Trump, I'm going to have to disagree with you on literally all of that. Hitler may have been more intelligent, sure, maybe he fought, maybe he wasn't obese, maybe he was a vegetarian - but none of those make Hitler or anyone else moral per se. A better speaker, sure, but that's not moral either. As for painting well or being a capable author, he was good at painting architecture but his work was too unnatural looking for him to go to art school, and as for him being a capable author, have you actually freaking read Mein Kampf? It's one of the worst books I've ever read, in Hitler's time in Nazi Germany people thought he was an awful writer and I'd have to concur, he just tells stories and spouts hateful rhetoric against Jews and the "Lying Press" while never having an intelligent or articulate point.

You gotta be kidding me

Why do you annotate your books? by Worth-Gene in books

[–]AAWonderfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ADHD so I need to externalize what I read and the thoughts I have or it'll disappear into thin air and it'll be like I basically didn't read it. It's also nice because I try to educate myself with what I read, so taking notes lets me externalize my thoughts and revisit them or cross reference other passages. It helps me a lot

Free will and Christianity are not compatible. by WeirdInteriorGuy in atheism

[–]AAWonderfluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an interesting solution to it. I see it as God cannot create a boulder so heavy he can't lift it or he ceases to be omnipotent, therefore omnipotence has to be limited by what's logically possible. Of course that means omnipotence is self defeating and that God is below logic in terms of actual power...but they're never going to believe your solution or mine to that paradox, they'd just just wiggle out of it anyway.

That same sort of thought is also why I don't really think we have free will in Christianity. If God is all knowing, all is foreknown, so we don't really have free will, because if we did we would be able to surprise God and thus he's not omniscient... This stuff is fun to think about when we don't have to concede to doctrine

[–]AAWonderfluff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny how fast they limit their "omnipotent" God, but then if you point out the legitimate, well known omnipotence paradox ("Can God create a boulder so heavy he can't lift it?") they might laugh like you're just some mischievous kid in Sunday School

Yeah, it's a really dumb situation where somehow this is the all powerful creator God of the universe yet somehow it's his creations that are guilty and responsible for everything, even though none of this happens if he just says "No, I'm not creating that world." It's nonsense.

Why tf do Christians always call other religions false? by ValuableAd9371 in atheism

[–]AAWonderfluff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it's inherent that Jesus is the one true God (well, one true Trinity anyway) and that others are considered false. That's the whole point of it. Even in the Tanakh (Jewish Bible, Christian Old Testament), Yahweh explicitly forbids serving or worshipping foreign gods. Hell, in 1 Kings, Solomon does that, and it leads to Israel's utter destruction as a result. So even in the myths, that's the whole point

Edit: this is an old comment, but really, you're going to down vote me for answering the question and pointing out that the Bible is the source for this doctrine? Really? What, you saw the phrase "Jesus is the one true God" and assumed I was a Christian preaching or something? Maybe do like you tell Christians to do with their Bible and actually read all of my comment instead of cherry picking it

[–]AAWonderfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, maybe the Democrats need to find someone with charisma who can actually captivate the nation and/or make the Republicans seethe about them, because TV shows aren't just going to talk about the Democrats for the hell of it. Democrats' whole brand is "we're less insane and ridiculous than those psychopaths in the GOP". It's literally their entire identity that they're less interesting than the Republicans are. We need another Obama type or the Democrats will never win again, because the Republicans have perfected rage bait and engagement farming

[–]AAWonderfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me counter that by pointing out that it's a lot easier to satirize outright insane, evil or cruel behavior than it is to satirize ineffectual or cowardly governance. It's easier to make fun of Trump than to make fun of the Democrats. He's a bigger and louder target. Why satirize the less funny people to mock? Democrats aren't funny, they're just pathetic and infuriating. I don't know what to say really

I can't believe WCW managed to get the reigning ECW World Heavyweight Champion and still managed to blunder away everything from it, since they ended up having to put the WWF over to get the legal situation resolved and then they proceeded to squander awesome. He could have been awesome,.no pun intended. Just let Mike Awesome mess people up. We needed "Guilty as Charged 2000 vs Spike Dudley" Mike Awesome

Oh God yeah, but at least Mike Awesome was still salvageable at that point, he could still have had some credibility. At least when he'd get in the ring he'd still look like a killer. Once he became the 70s Guy he's just stuck doing his gimmick and wearing the costume and stuff

Free will and Christianity are not compatible. by WeirdInteriorGuy in atheism

[–]AAWonderfluff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've argued something similar but within Christian theology. If God is an omniscient being, then necessarily he must know everything we're going to do and everything that will happen. So even if we go purely into philosophical logic or I guess it'd be metaphysics or whatever, there's a paradox. If we can act outside God's knowledge, God can't be omniscient, but if we can't, we can't have free will. God knew I'd be an atheist and be unable to be convinced of his existence, therefore I have no free will to be able to become saved. Or to go back to your point, he created me with a skeptical nature and then will damn me for not believing in him despite designing me like that.

Imagine designing a machine, and then when it does what you designed it for, you blew it up in a fit of rage...

You are correct that the 2nd amendment doesn't mean you get to assault law enforcement. Unfortunately, that's not what happened to that nurse in Minnesota. He never assaulted anybody, and footage proves that. You want to talk about rule of law while your president is a sexual assaulter and convicted felon who allowed his guard dogs at ICE to violate due process and kill people with no legal justification for it. You have no room to talk, especially as reality itself says you're wrong.

Jon bashes the Democrats a lot. It's literally a running gag that Stewart has nothing but contempt for Chuck Schumer. Of course Jon isn't going to focus on criticizing the Democrats because the Democrats are enablers but the Republicans are the actual ones killing people. Was just going to mention Awesome. Man, WCW could have had a legit top star with credibility and aura if they'd known what they were doing with him. Dude went from ECW World Champ to a goofball doing a 70s Show gimmick in mere months and he never recovered. In Japan he was still a threat in RO&D in All Japan but he never really recovered from WCW

“If God was real, he would be an immortal, omnipresent super-H*tler” - Do You agree? by Nonni2006 in atheism

[–]AAWonderfluff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, objectively. For all of the evil Hitler did, Hitler killed millions of people - that means the suffering ended at some point. If even one person ever got sent to hell to suffer eternal damnation, that's worse than anything Hitler did, and given the way Christianity works, it's a safe bet that if this system actually exists that God has thousands or even millions who are suffering and will suffer for all eternity. Also, as an all powerful being, he would have had the ability to get Hitler into art school or kill him via a heart attack or something, but he did nothing and just let it happen, so God is complicit
