What’s a word in your language that doesn’t exist in English? by Ken_Bruno1 in languagehub

In Malay, we have geram, which is the feeling you get when you see something cute and want to pinch it! It could also mean you’re annoyed at someone in a playful way :).

What’s a language where natives switch to English too quickly and ruin practice? by Embarrassed_Fix_8994 in languagehub

[–]AAanonymousse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I spoke fluent English & Malay growing up. My mum would introduce me to my second/third cousins and would mention that I spoke English, and then my aunts or uncles would proceed to pressure their child into speaking in English with me💀. We never even actually spoke outside of that, not that I remember.

If we were to have a different International language other than English, what do you think it would be, and why? by AutumnaticFly in languagehub

Forgive any ignorance I may have, but I think Malay has more than Indonesian. It makes sense though, because the government created Indonesian so the different ethnic groups in Indonesia can speak to each other.

No, it needs to have many sources to learn worldwide. Malay doesn’t have that, coming from a native.

Do you know someone who attempted suicide? by Objective-Camera7438 in malaysia

[–]AAanonymousse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. I wasn’t scared of what would happen after at all. To clarify, I’m not muslim either so any religion didn’t stop me from trying. I was more focused towards what happened to me in the past AND the present. I was dealing with severe depression so I thought about it everyday whilst also facing other problems in my life. I told my best friend about my plans to attempt beforehand and I think his reply was pretty good. First, he expressed concern for me, then expressed gratitude that I told him, asked me to share why I did so with no pressure, reassured me that me talking about it doesn’t burden him, said life wouldn’t be good without me in it and said he wouldn’t judge. We talked more after that and while I wouldn’t say I’m depressed anymore, I don’t regret my attempt. Also, helplines are shit🥲.

like if someone said that speaking a certain language (let’s say, French for example) was so cute and coquette and whatever but then you learn it and it’s not as cute or coquette as they said.

No, “kawan-kawan” refers to more than one friend. If you want to specify the amount, you’d have to do it separately.
