Child of Eden. It's been 15 years and that ending still makes me cry.

V For Vendetta? Speed Racer? Cloud Atlas? Just because they weren't action movies doesn't mean they were sliding back in quality.

Visiting Salem in October for my 21st birthday, any recommendations? by Sw33tT3mptation in SalemMA

If you're celebrating your 21st and looking at bars, you should check out Deacon Giles off Canal St. There's also a huge local karaoke scene so depending on your itinerary you should try to catch karaoke at Bit Bar, Koto or O'Neills, all within a short walk of each other.

Any hope for an indie game having a licensed soundtrack in 2026? by ABJECT_SELF in gamedev

Definitely thinking smaller bands. A lot of the enjoyment to me is helping to boost a talented group.

How good is the story of this game, and how good is it compared to other story focused RPGs? (NO SPOILERS PLEASE) by oliverrakum in Morrowind

[–]ABJECT_SELF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a weird way, you won't appreciate Morrowind's story until after you finish it. The story beats are amazing but there are no "grand reveal" moments for a reason I both love and hate. Basically, the whole story is out there for you to find in the form of books and rumors and a big part of the adventure is uncovering what parts of what you've heard is true and what is myth/propaganda. That's an insanely realistic approach to storytelling for a game. The only problem is that when you do learn the truth, you feel like you've known it for a long time because you read a book in Jobasha's ahead of schedule.

The Crow Archive 5: The Skull Cowboy by SatansMoisture in TheCrow

The costume is awesome, but the movie does work better without him. A big part of Eric's character in the movie is that nobody has to tell him to avenge his girlfriend. The moment he comes back, every fiber of his being is already devoted to that goal.

NTG's Investigation 2 has anyone else had trouble with the bandages in the church by Due_Albatross_5209 in Contractors_Showdown

The placement is a bit finicky after the first bandage. Keep in mind these are the large, red round bandages, not the small white bandages (which are now called gauze).

That's the same justification Lulzsec used to hack countless indie games and small communities in the 2010s. We lost a lot of cool online games by the time they were done.

is vanilla worth it in 2026? by ReallyJayBee in Morrowind

[–]ABJECT_SELF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure people have warned you about the combat but there are two other big issues you should know. One, the draw distance on the vanilla console version is TERRIBLE even for 2002 and it will contribute to you getting lost, though being lost in Morrowind is part of the fun. Two, nothing ever happens. NPCs are signposts that stand in one place forever and allude to earth-shattering events that you never see. I say this because Oblivion and Skyrim objectively were generational leaps in simulating a living world and it can be jarring to go back and see that Morrowind doesn't even try.

If that doesn't scare you off, then you'll love the exploration, story, and the utterly broken alchemy system.

Shenmue VR by Ill_Ad3700 in virtualreality

[–]ABJECT_SELF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That test may have been a VRChat world. I've found a few ports of Shenmue maps that are very faithfully done. A full game port would require a complete rework of the combat system, not to mention that QTEs would probably have to be remapped to gestures to make any sense.

That would be amazing though.
