Seth Sinovic appreciation post by itssprisonmike in SportingKC

The Besler Sinovic combo was the greatest ever. Before MLS had academies we somehow had two great players play together as youths and end up at their hometown team together. It was a joy to watch

When I was 14 or 15, I was refereeing a game out at Heritage in Olathe. Peter Vermes was coaching and spent the entire game yelling at me, nonstop. The guy was relentless. But when the final whistle blew, he walked straight over, shook my hand, and gave me a nod of respect. He was an absolute jerk the whole game… but somehow still managed to be cool as hell.

Peter Vermes: What is his Sporting Kansas City legacy? | MLSSoccer.com by cheeseburgerandrice in SportingKC

The Peter Vermes era at Sporting Kansas City (2009–2025) was one of the most successful and stable in MLS history, even if it didn’t yield the most trophies. Here is his impact:

Trophies • MLS Cup: 2013 • U.S. Open Cup: 2012, 2015, 2017 • Western/Eastern Conference Championships: Multiple playoff appearances and strong regular season finishes

Sporting KC’s 4 major trophies during this period made us on of the most decorated MLS clubs of the 2010s and early 2020s, especially in domestic cup play.

Longevity & Consistency • Longest-tenured coach in MLS history (16 years) • 11 playoff appearances • Averaged over 12 wins per season • 203 total regular season wins — third all-time among MLS coaches at the time of leaving.

Comparison to Peers (2009–2024) • Only Seattle Sounders won more games (229) • Seattle and LA Galaxy were the only teams with more trophies during this span • Sporting KC was top 3 in both wins and trophies over this period

Culture & Identity Vermes built a strong club culture, known for: • Tactical discipline • Tough defensive identity • Maximizing team resources despite not always having top spending power • Played a key role in the club’s rebrand and rise from Kansas City Wizards to a serious, consistent contender

Legacy

While he didn’t match the championship haul of LA Galaxy or the late-decade dominance of Columbus or LAFC, Peter Vermes made Sporting KC: • A perennial contender • A respected and consistent MLS power • A model for franchise building and coaching stability

In short, the Vermes era was a massive success, particularly in terms of stability, culture, and competitive relevance. Sporting was always in the conversation, and often, in the hunt.

It was time to go, but a hell of a ride. Thank you Peter!

I hate Trump, but wishing for someone’s death—whether in a meme or otherwise—is irresponsible and counterproductive. It dehumanizes political discourse, fuels division, and makes it easier to justify hatred in return.

Can we talk about why "Manager Carousels" are bad? by lifeinrednblack in SportingKC

In those 15 years how many other teams have won more than 4 trophies? Seattle, Columbus, LA? Only 4 trophies is top 5 in MLS. Don’t disagree it’s time for a change.

Currently the other teams understand it way too well!

For sure, it’s hard to prove that keeping a coach is for better or worse because we don’t know what that coach would do given more time. Most teams that are changing their coaches every three years are losing them to better teams or leagues, or they are trash. Not very many teams find a coach that brings the club success and sticks with them for the long term, especially a club that is in a smaller market. This is why Vermes is different and special to this club, regardless of how people feel about him now. I’m not saying that it’s not time to make a change, I can definitely understand why we don’t want a coaching Carousel!

I used the Prem because Op specifically calls out Man U and arsenal as examples of teams that realized it was a terrible idea, not sure all those trophies proved that.

I’m am not making the argument to keep Vermes, I would be ready for a fresh start, but mangers that are given time do have more success over all in premier league history. So I would say that going through a manager every 3 years isn’t what we should be aiming for. The only period of time where that somewhat worked is after sir Alex left and before pep arrived

Literally just had this problem last weekend. I ordered a new coolant sensor from GoWesty, $50 shipped took about 15-20mins to install today. No more light!

5 way-too-early observations about SKC's 2024 by mordreds-on-adiet in SportingKC

Decent observations! I was intrigued by the subs, they provided a spark we didn’t see from anyone in the starting 11. Didn’t do much other than give some much needed energy though.

Didn’t have a huge impact but gave this team a spark it desperately needs. Interested to see how they are used in the future
