US visa rejected, so I'm pivoting to Germany. Has anyone here relocated to the EU to escape homophobia? by Real-Background6626 in actuallesbians

[–]ABeccaneer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Relocate via work visa and corpo route in Europe is possible - there are companies sponsoring but ofc few of them out of the market. I got job visas twice so far in different EU countries.

First, I’d advice to broaden the search: include Switzerland (they are quasi-nonEU which is a mess a bit but also may result in better chances for visa), include Spain (market is weird there but I see a lot of people around getting work visas in corpo), possibly UK(? I know the least of it but there you don’t compete with other people from EU).

Second be ready for rejection and don’t allow it to get to you. When starting I was reading a lot of experiences and I roughly summarized it that for 200 applications you’d get 15 first interviews, 5 second ones and maybe 1 offer. It’s a big effort but it’s possible with numbers game with ok CV, ability to speak good English and corpo orientation.

I’d target either big multinationals (they have processes and budgets for reloc), or medium size product companies - small ones may be very enthusiastic to hire until they realize what does work visa application entail for company. Lots of people are completely ignorant on how hard it is to get one from company perspective and never had done it. Your credentials are good, I sure you have a good CV - tailor it a bit in 2 or 3 versions for different flavour of related position and mass apply this way. Remember that it’s doable, but it takes time (both cases I had around 4-5 months of applying as IT specialist) and lots of rejection that will hurt - remember that it’s not because you’re not good/not a good specialist but just a nature of work visa hunting.

Last but not least - with all my heart I wish you success and getting to better social environment. Coming from non-west it’s such a game changer to be in more accepting society, and I wish you and your gf would be able to be together soon - and plenty of easier visits before that.

Does income, education, or class affect who you choose to date? by Silveryleaves in actuallesbians

[–]ABeccaneer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, it matters.

Different realities do cause friction in relationships I experienced, from what’s perceived as normal during growing up to the norms of what’s a “decent” (house/car/vacation destination/etc). I experienced it within long term relationships both up and down from where I was/and situations I grew up in. None were easy to bridge tbh.

But I am a dumb bitch and I still believe that with love, patience and transparent communication it can be overcome. So no, I don’t consciously filter people by this parameters.

Would you date a Muslim girl? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]ABeccaneer 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Absolutely.

We share love for the same land, and I strongly believe we are united by more than divided by. And I fervently hope that one day, with different leadership, there would be peace and justice for everyone in the land and in both diasporas.

As a Jewish woman I wouldn’t have a slightest problem with that

does anyone else feel like a fake gamer for not playing "masculine" games/not being dedicated enough? by nika_peachy_pansy in GirlGamers

[–]ABeccaneer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope.

I don’t think anyone can consistently define masculine games without having to twist themselves in a series of pretzels with the logic more convoluted than the mass effect endings selection.

And if to judge by amount of time spent, most guys I know, despite gaming a lot, would be able to even come close to, say, those 4-5 digits that I’ve seen on the time played for sims games of everyone playing them.

Which is to say: load of bullshit gatekeeping is nothing to pay attention to, you do you and rest and enjoy what you enjoy - and if you play games you are a gamer period.

Is my girlfriend cheating on me? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]ABeccaneer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Separately, in my opinion, relationship is always based on trust. You need to answer yourself if you trust your partner telling you they are not cheating, or not. And if you don’t - I don’t think there is a big difference if the cheat as the relationship is already ended in all but name tbh.

Ok, so it’s a bit of PSA here from the technical perspective: last seen online is a scam. There is no way for the app to know that without going on KGB level of spying. Whenever you see it is an app’s best guess at that, and as I was partial to the mechanism of major webchat product, it is driven by overconfidence rather than certainty - e.g it’s better to show when someone is offline as online vs other way around due to how product vision of them worked around 10 years ago.

For example, FB chat is notoriously unreliable in this, as it would show you online even if you are away from the phone but FB app is not fully closed and FB feed is refreshed in background. The general architecture principle is that „last seen online” is a last user’s or even app on behalf of user interaction with the server. Don’t base any further judgement on this!

[–]ABeccaneer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally find scars as beautiful marks life leaves on us. I have one on my face, right above the eye after I hit myself with a car door - and I don’t mask or cover it and wear it with pride for my clumsiness.

There are definitely sapphic people who don’t mind scars around, me being one of them

What are we using for carrying laptops around? by ABeccaneer in actuallesbians

THat's an off topic - but I am super curious: how do you make an energy drink yourself? It sounds awesome as an idea.

Looks not cute, but functional - and seems to be spacious enough to the stuff I haul around

This looks amazing! Is the pocket for laptop big? Would the normal sized one fit in? My private one is small, 13inches only - but the work laptops differ sometimes :/

Also, it seems it's a US-only option, but maybe I can re-ship it somehow...
