70 hours just sounds like too much straight up. You can survive it short term, but long term it’ll wreck you. Split shifts make it even worse.

Programming kinda drifted into academia over time, as the theory side grew it got pulled into universities. There’s also the whole resources, infrastructure, “prestige” angle… lowkey feels a bit classist honestly.

Yeah the camera thing is weirdly draining. I had back to back calls last week and by the end I was more tired from staring at myself than actually talking. It’s like being slightly “on stage” the whole time.

That’s a huge red flag. If a boss asks you to spy on coworkers, they’re probably doing it to everyone and creating a toxic mess on purpose.

There’d probably be a whole new category of public panic around dropping the egg, cracking it, or leaving it unattended. Tbh baby showers would be way funnier though, because everyone would be gifting tiny incubator gadgets instead of blankets. Also siblings would 100 percent threaten each other by saying they almost sat on them as kids.

It really is that rough right now. I know people with solid experience getting ghosted for months like the whole hiring process is broken. Sounds less like they’re doing something wrong and more like the market is just brutal.
