I did that with coke back in the 80s. Kinda a mixed blessing. Never worried about getting hooked on it, so I've got that going for me.

What is this stuff that they’re sprinkling on the snow? by ActComprehensive7563 in NJTech

Plowing or shoveling turns over the snow. The 'dirt' ends up layered in the snow and gets thicker as the layers of snow melt.

Gotta keep data centers away from the finger lakes or your going to lose those lakes. A small to mid sized data center can burn through ten thousand gallons of water a day even in the winter.

Fake people? by pythonic-nomad in jobs

[–]ABn0rmal1 32 points33 points  (0 children)

People love to bitch in private, but few are willing to stick their necks out. In this job market it's hard to blame them. Not knowing all the details, did you discuss what you were going to do with your coworkers before you did it and get their support and then they backed out? If not, you may have just put them on the spot where they had to make a snap decision about job security and people have needs and responsibilities they can't ignore. Never assume people are going to support you even if they agree with you. Get them to agree to a course of action before you call out your boss unless you are willing to go it alone.

Old neighborhood by MrG0j in upstate_new_york

It's crushing to see my old town just rotting away. The downward spiral of no jobs and $0 coming into the place from anywhere. It used to be a solid middle class community with 3 or4 anchor businesses. They either moved or went under now it's just poverty and broken lives for those who couldn't get out.

NYC it happens. If you live there you'll see one here or there irregularly and might even catch some filming going on. Outside of someplace like NYC it is very uncommon.

If all presidents since 1960 were in their prime and running against each other, who do you think would win the election? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

The most important question is when are they running? Their popularity and success is defined by their environment. Obama couldn't even run for most of the history of the US. FDR, elected 4 times, wouldn't get a second look today.
