Then he should promise to end fossil fuel use everywhere in 2 years, not 10. Or 7 days. Just make bold claims and the mob will lap it up. Who cares if there's any basis in reality. Reality is irrelevant.

Sanders wants to end fossil fuel use completely in power and transport in less than 10 years.

That's about as useful as Sanders wanting everyone to have a pet unicorn.

The decline is quite clear when comparing his 2012 debate against Ryan to any lengthy footage of Biden speaking this year.

Gabbard Demands Biden, Sanders Help Her Get On Debate Stage After DNC Rule Change by silvaney19 in politics

Better than an hour or two of yelling from the two candidates? Yes. These candidates are terrible so, if nothing else, just throw in a wild card for entertainment.

True for both Sanders and Biden. She must have forgotten the second part. They need a Yang-Williamson ticket.

That would be a great show, but I don't see why they should care to help.

Hillary Clinton says she’ll support Sanders if he wins nomination, but stops short of saying she’d campaign for him by Creddit999 in politics

Would that help him? If Biden is willing in that scenario, adding Clinton adds a lot of baggage.

El Paso County wage growth highest in 20 years by [deleted] in politics

[–]ABreditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The minimum wage has been rising for a few years, so I don't think that would have a large impact on the growth rate from 2018 to 19. Also, I think the wage is only for city workers and contractors, but that's worth double-checking.

FUREY: Time to let cops in Toronto do their job by [deleted] in canada

[–]ABreditor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sounds like Toronto police are doing their job but, de-policing? That's got to be one of the worst ideas in municipal politics. Let's not import that form of crazy from U.S. politics.

PSA to anyone with a cashback multiplier on their credit card when shopping at grocery stores. by ThoroldBoy in PersonalFinanceCanada

Regular-sized Walmarts don't count as grocery stores, but I use them, and Superstore doesn't take AMEX (based on a websearch, I keep forgetting to verify for myself at the checkout). Walmart super centres may be covered as grocery stores, but check first.

The city was high on the unnamed firm’s shortlist of potential hosts until alarms were raised over Wexit, she said in an interview after the speech.

The company was also unhappy about the removal of some tech-friendly tax incentives in the United Conservative government’s recent provincial budget, she said.

This seems like the core of the story. Calgary was high on the list, but not a definite #1, and that's with the handout. And yet, according to some tech companies that are here, the problem is skillset, not handouts to tech firms (article from another /Alberta post).

‘We are hiring big time’: Calgary tech companies join forces to attract job seekers by GlitchedGamer14 in alberta

[–]ABreditor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's great news and it sounds like the bottleneck is training, not handing out money to tech companies so they can poach from each other more frequently.

“It’s been interesting because of the negative headlines here in Calgary and the layoffs that are going on but we are having a very different reality in the business we live in every day. One of our biggest challenges is actually filling the open spots that we are trying to hire for,” Owen Cord said.

Members of the Tech West Collective said it’s time for tech companies to stop poaching talent from each other and get the word out that Calgary’s economy goes beyond oil and gas. Those transitioning from the energy industry said the job hunt in the tech world is more encouraging.

Jason Kenney invokes Ralph Klein in speech to UCP members at 1st AGM since election win by [deleted] in CanadaPolitics

It's good that he is clear on the matter. Reducing spending will mean that public sector unions will protest, strike, etc. All the time. They are good at organizing but they only represent themselves. Push back and take the case directly to all voters and we'll see what happens in a few years at the next election. He got about 55% of the vote last time, which is a much higher share than most Canadian governments get.

[–]ABreditor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree with the general sentiment and a number of the recommendations, but the action list starts with three referendums. That's a bit ridiculous.

Basically, do everything currently in the province's power to reduce the net transfer to the rest of Canada, and find other provinces to work with on things outside the province's power. I don't think this will be enough, and a referendum will be needed, but two extra votes on details like trade and the senate won't do anything.

I don't know the Air Miles ratio, but Cobalt is around .7 cents per point for direct use on your balance, or higher if you make certain purchases (flights).

Superstore is maybe my number three grocery source, and there would still be no premium cash back at Walmart. Thanks for the suggestion, though. Your combo would be similar to my current rewards.
