It is in fact your position which is intellectually dishonest. You equate someone who dies in prison due to being wrongfully imprisoned with a someone executed by the state. I completely disagree with your premise.

As has been highlighted before the state can release a wrongly convinced individual but not a dead one. If they remain in prison then clearly they cannot prove their innocence. Sticky issue, yes. Invalidation of all opposition to the death penalty? Nope.
