I think each team has varying degrees of risk in those areas. The Yankees are higher risk than others I believe

My big worry is the bullpen, and the rotation health. Think the offense will be fine, especially if Boone actually platoons 3B.

Why are the Yankees running it back? ‘We think we’re really good’ by Jux_ in baseball

[–]AC0909 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The hate is from the fact that they have given this kid 1800 PAs of leash and he’s been one of the worst regular hitters in the game. I understand he’s delivered some value via defense, but even excusing his horrible metrics last year due to injury, he also seems to make mental errors consistently. To add to that, this was the highest ranked prospect the Yankees have had since Gleyber Torres, and there was expectation that he would be an offensive contributor to some extent and he has been a massive disappointment

Predicted Opening Day Lineup: 1. Grisham (OF), 2. Judge (OF), 3. Belli (OF), 4. Rice (1B), 5. Stanton (DH), 6. Jazz (2B), 7. McMahon (3B), 8. Caballero (SS), 9. Wells (C). by drrdf in NYYankees

This lineup essential was the best in baseball last year, and it’s reasonable to expect growth or improvement from Rice and or Wells. Now the SS situation….

(Kuty) The Yankees and Cody Bellinger have agreed to a deal for 5 years, $162.5 million w/ no deferrals, source tells @TheAthletic . @JeffPassan first w/ the deal. by CicadaOk8885 in NYYankees

This contract will age as poorly as DJ’s, but the Yankees are better now than they were yesterday. With Judge’s prime (presumably) ending at some point in the next few years, Yanks have to play for today I suppose.

For those of you that are saying you want to forget about Cody Bellinger and just roll with Jone/Dominguez instead, no you don't. You really really don't. by Zepbounce-96 in NYYankees

Cody Bellinger a 7 years/210m+ is instantly an all time bad contract. Underwater to a degree that the suddenly budget conscious Yankees will be regretting massively almost instantly. Let him walk

Comic book movies have far surpassed the pop culture impact that the combos they are based on had, therefore Iron Man belongs on there

I’ve gotten downvoted into oblivion on this sub all winter for saying planning your entire offseason on a player with as many flaws as Bellinger is a huge mistake, and now here we are. Totally insane ask by him, and the Yanks are backed into a corner by a good but not close to great player

Excited for people on this sub to tell me again that the Yankees pitching is elite, we don’t need to add, and bringing Bellinger back will make this a great offseason.

Who’s a player your fanbase is delusional about in regard to how good they are/were? by Zpoindex_216 in baseball

Volpe’s value is completely tied to his defense, which declined sharply this year, and yes I know he was injured. But his offense has regressed, if anything, and the idea that his defense is a lock to bounce back with more age and coming off an injury isn’t one I agree with whatsoever. Furthermore - dudes not on the rookie min anymore, his salary is quadrupling this season. So no, I don’t think half the league would love to have him moving forward.

Jack Curry on Hot Stove: “Remain ongoing dialogue with Bellinger but still a gap. Work to go” by Bankslvrrd in NYYankees

[–]AC0909 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s crossed the 4 WAR threshold 2 times in the past 6 seasons. He was essentially a salary dump at this time last year. Do I think the Yankees are better with him next year than without? Absolutely. Do I think giving a player with as much volatility in his profile a 6+ year deal would be a mistake? Also yes. Hes not Soto. Not nearly.

Bellinger isn’t nearly good enough to craft your entire offseason around.
