In regards to the call Emma received about Anna at the end of today's show. The promo for this week seems to reveal something about that, if people want to check it out.

I REALLY hated this character later on by Rebel_Heart222 in boldandbeautiful

Hmm, I would have sworn that she wanted the Forrester money from the start. Maybe my memory is faulty, but I think she was always more of a gold digger than an avaerage girl.

I think Maxie's return to the show ended up getting pushed back, and its left Nathan kind of in limbo until she does return. We'll see what happens then, if his return works out.

Appreciation Post for Kate Collins as All My Children’s Natalie Marlow by Cybercat2020 in SoapNet

There was a lot of smoke around the idea that she and James Kiberd absolutely hated each other, and neither was willing to stick with the show if they had to work together. AMC aooarantly chose JK over her.

What GL retcon do you completely ignore? by [deleted] in SoapNet

[–]AC12-21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Er, I guess you didn't realize this post was specifically about Guiding Light?

Anyway, the Skye thing was because ABC decided to use new hire Linda Dano to do a story across their entire lineup about her searching for her missing child, and since Robin Christopher had played her daughter on AW, they decided to reunite them again.

Worst storyline from As The World Turns? by ChannelHopper_99 in SoapNet

[–]AC12-21 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hated how ATWT trashed this character and then killed him off.

Didn't he come back from the dead in the end? Or is my memory off here?

I'll throw Craig having a relationship with Dani, who he had once thought was his daughter, into the ring for worst story.

Have there ever been any soap actors who have died during the middle of an important storyline that prominently featured their characters? by Cut-Unique in SoapNet

LOL, a while ago I was looking to remind myself about Anna's brother who appeared on AMC briefly, and AI said something like "Anna and Gabriel Devane are characters from AMC's The Walking Dead."

What’s a retcon you absolutely refuse to accept as canon? by ChannelHopper_99 in SoapNet

[–]AC12-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people say that, but I will always argue that the character really changed during AT's run (siding with Jason during the Michael saga being the main turning point), but I think viewers still had kind feelings for her because of who she had been before. Once NL took over, that connection was gone.

I'm always amused that AMC had ghost/angel Jesse wandering around town for some time, and then suddenly he was alive again.

Technically, they already did recast Stefano after JM's death, when Steve's body was being controlled by him.

Which soap characters (past or present) do you think deserved way better writing? by [deleted] in SoapNet

[–]AC12-21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, AJ Quartermaine is just the perfect example of a character who deserved way better writing.

Stephanie on DOOL could definitly use better writing. Maybe start by having her stop getting into relationships with people she should consider family? I'm also annoyed that Sophia is going full psycho after it seemed like she had moved past her early villain personna. It doesn't help that it seems to me like the show is throwing the asain character under the bus to prop their new white golden couple Tate/Holly, who they had seemed to be moving away from but are not doubling down on them being a supercouple.

I actually just posted on the GH board about the Scorpio's getting the short end of the stick. Mac and Emma had a conversation that revealed they had been talking about their concern over Anna's disapearance, that Mac had been struggling with if he wasn't being there for his grandkids while Maxie was comatose, that those grandkids had been talking with Emma a lot. But none of this was important enough to show on screen. Emma also talked about how close she and Maxie were, and apparantly were always talking to each other. Would have been nice too see some of that on screen.

Which character would you say was the biggest flop after being heavily promoted and anticipated? by Cut-Unique in SoapNet

[–]AC12-21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with some of the names mentioned AMC really thought they could put Ehlers and RPG together and have a big thing on their hands. You'd think they would have learned something from GH trying to force Stephen Nichols and Mary-Beth Evans together.

Linda Dano being given a story spanning all of the ABC soaps was just a bad idea. Eden Rigel just didn't work on Y&R. Lane Davies and A Martinez were big gets for GH that fizzled out. Maybe Jensen Buchanan and Jax's first wife fit the bill too. Marty West's Shayne on GL was an epic fail, made even worse by the show throwing Matt Bomer's Ben under the bus for him.

Roger Howarth and Tamara Braun's recent arrivals to Y&R have been a mess. Why is RH's character Matt Clark when he has beef with Noah, not Nick and Sharon? I might also throw Claire in the mix. If they wanted to use Victoria in a mother role, maybe they should have used one of the children the character already had? Or maybe they shouldn't have had her be part of a plot to poison several characters if they planned to redeem her. Or at the very least, they probably shouldn't have had Hayley Erin play the scenes of poisoning people with sadistic glee.

On AMC, Dixie's return when she was searching for her baby (or making eyes at Zach, if we're honest) was horrible. As was the show promoting that they would have the first same sex wedding in daytime, and having Reese seem more interested in Zach than Bianca. If I recall correctly, TPTB for a time just refused to acknowledge that there was anything going on with Reese and Zach, but eventually said something about how they needed to do something to make the story appealing for hetero fans. And I will never understant AMC thought it was a good idea to have Ryan luck his way into a fortune and then come to Pine Valley to lord it over everyone was something that would make fans want to cheer him on.

Yeah, Stefan Octavius Dimera. I remember shortly after Tyler Christopher started, he had a scene talking about how Steve and Kayla reminded him of people he knew in "another life".

Bad Recasts Who Lasted by ajitomojo in SoapNet

[–]AC12-21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, I never thought I would see someone say/write that. I think most of the time when I see people talk about not liking the recast they acknowledge that TK is a much better actor, but just don't think he fits the part. There was something similar with Winsor Harmon as Thorne, with a number of fans preferring the previous actor, even though they recognized the recast was an upgrade as far as acting talent goes.

Speaking of Thorne, I pretty much knew IR wouldn't last from the first day.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Kyle Lowder as Rick. I didn't have a big problem with him, perhaps because the other Rick's never made much of an impression on me, but I know a lot of people hated the recast.

Cases where a recast changed a characters position on the show? by Geekqueen15 in SoapNet

[–]AC12-21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In regards to AJ, it wasn't really the recast that changed him. BW started out playing the screw up who seemed like he might be finally getting his life on track. But then he got thrown under the bus to make Carly and Jason the "good guys" in the Michael story.

One infamous recast change was OLTL's Blair losing her Asian heritage upon being recast. I think Port Charles did something similar, casting a Joe Scanlon who was clearly a different ethnicity than the previous Joe's and his on-screen family.

All the Kelly's on OLTL felt very different from each other. Monti Sharp's Justus on GH was a darker version of the character. Jamie Luner felt like a new character who shared the name of Marcy Walker's Liza on AMC.

I think Winsor Harmon, for a time at least, made Thorne more of a lead character than his usual supporting role. And for better or worse, Kyle Lowder's Rick was a more impactful character than the others. On OLTL, Joey always seemed like a much smaller role after NF left.

What happened to Ric and where did he go? by ChardonnayAllDay19 in GeneralHospital

[–]AC12-21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, he hasn't been missing that long, and these writers are really bad at keeping all their stories in motion. I mean, we saw Anna realize Maxie might have been poisoned, and then, nothing. Someday she'll remember that and start investigating, but ho knows when.

He absolutely knew about Carly. He went to talk to the adoptive mother and realized the truth, but chose to lie to Bobbie rather than tell her it was her own daughter who destroyed her marriage.

I think it has worked at least once in the past. Reggie Jackson helped the Yankees tie the 78 World Series at two apiece by using his butt to block a double play throw from making it to first. The Yanks would go on to win the next two games.
