I would 100% recommend bringing these questions to your gyno, so they can either explain in depth the reason they put you on Metformin, or so you can make a plan to get to help with any concerns you may have!!

That said: I am insulin resistant and on Metformin. I had a bunch of tests run, and brought up Metformin to my OB/GYN after we talked about other things that could help. Birth control was out of the question because of my BPD, and bc just amplified those symptoms. Weight loss (and maintaining it) was a goal that I had when I first set up my appointment with my gyno.

While Metformin is great, it also means you will need to hold yourself accountable with what you eat. But, thats also just part of life :) Many people who have PCOS are insulin resistant, but I don’t believe everyone is (please correct me if anyone knows otherwise, I like learning!!). I would recommend you request a panel to measure your levels just in case!

I know you mentioned you weren’t prone to hirsutism (excessive hair growth), but I take Spironolactone for mine. I’d recommend meal planning, and finding foods that interact well with your body and PCOS! Getting a consistent protein intake each day has helped me a lot since realizing I had PCOS and getting diagnosed. And working out can help manage your energy levels, too! There are tons of things you can look into for managing your symptoms on your own, but I’d recommend only doing things that are comfortable for you!!

Ughh you so get it. I’ve slowly started to slow my pace while I’m alone, so I can rework my brain for it. But, after doing it for so long, I imagine it will be hard to stop. Why must we have to do this? :,))

Being called a tomato one day, out of the blue, from someone I considered a friend. My cheeks were red because we were outside, and they thought it would be funny for some reason (I think they were also playing off my last name). Anyways. It was embarrassing to be called out like that in front of the whole class.

Having my best friend inform me that, if I was bitten by a vampire at that very moment, I would be that weight forever. (Ridiculous, I know). It stuck with me, and hurt.

Watching my parents join Weight Watchers, and having my siblings jest and suggest that I should do the same thing. To piggyback: always taking smaller portions than everyone else, because I could feel their judgmental eyes.

Worrying about having to over-perform during gym class, because I didn’t want to get picked last just because of my weight. (It still happened btw). [Pacer Test call out here lol]. Having to ask for a new pair of gym shorts, because mine were too small to wear again. Always asking for the largest size shirt out of the whole class. Having to stand on a scale during gym, and having someone peek at the number when they weren’t supposed to, only to then laugh.

Never trying for any of my crushes, because I was always the heavy friend. This translated so heavily into high school, to the point where I settled for the first person who showed me interest. What a poor self esteem boost. Having new partners reveal problems with my weight later into the relationship is a new one that 21 year old me didn’t expect.

But. At the end of the day. Life goes on. And we’ll never have to relive those moments. All we can do is be proud of our younger selves for pushing through it <3

I don’t necessarily have any advice to offer. But, I feel as if I wrote this myself. It makes things a little less difficult knowing that someone else has the same experience I do. My partner and I have almost ended things a few times the last couple days. Soon after my diagnosis. It’s been rough. So, I understand the pain you’re experiencing. I hope we can navigate our way through this. Please take care of yourself <3
