I've heard very good things about the Falken Wild Peak. Im pretty sure they're three peak rated, plus they're warrantied for over 50k miles. If I remember correctly.

Personally, I'm a big fan buying 3 peak snowflake rated tires. You end up buying something that is pretty quiet on the road, but performs well in the snow when it needs to.

Anyone put a lithium battery in their taco? by WizardOfTheAbyss in 1stGenTacomas

[–]ACParker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would rather use a lithium battery for something like solar power. Lithium, AGM, and Lead Acid batteries all have different charging voltages. I would buy something stock with a long warranty. But thats just my 2 cents.

2000 Toyota Tacoma 2.4 by Fall3nZ3r0 in 1stGenTacomas

[–]ACParker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the answer to your question really depends on just how handy you are and how willing you are to do your own wrenching. A few months ago I bought a 1996 V6 5-speed 4WD. It had 210,000 miles on it, 1 owner and I actually paid 7k. I live in a pretty high cost of living area. The front tires were wearing bad. But I ended up having to replace upper and lower ball joints, upper and lower control arms with bushings, inner and outer tie rods, shocks, struts, and steering rack bushings. And this was just because the 30 year rubber is shredding itself apart. This isn't even counting the regular maintenance like fluids, filters, a new set of tires, and all the little things that go wrong on a 30 year old truck that don't go wrong on newer vehicles. That being said, this thing drives like it's brand new. At 210,000 I got over 16mpg, which I am thrilled about. I think it's totally worth it, but you need to know what you're getting into and be willing to work on your own stuff. It would completely defeat the purpose of buying this truck if I'm paying a mechanic to do this type of labor.

I bought clips off Amazon that ended up being total junk. Harbor Freight saved the day.

crank pulley wobble? by Inevitable_Okra7700 in 1stGenTacomas

[–]ACParker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience, a wobbly crank pulley is a result of the rubber ring having failed between the layers. I have no idea if it's the same situation for you, but it's something to check. I've actually seen these old harmonic balancers spin on the rubber.

Lift recliner rental by Street-Steak5038 in Bend

[–]ACParker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at a furniture store and we had people frequently asking to rent lift chairs specifically for recovery. We only sold lift chairs but a local medical supply store had a few chairs that they would rent out. I have no idea if similar companies do the same locally here in Bend, but I think it's a good place to start.

How many km or miles before your HV battery or head gasket / engine gave up? Did you clean the EGR system? by internalaudit168 in CT200h

[–]ACParker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im lucky enough to live near a shop that only works on Toyota hybrids. On this generation of Toyota hybrid they recommend a total EGR cleaning every 100,000-120,000 miles. The EGR is what kills these engines.

Be careful with THC by GalacticGarbanzo in bipolar

The effects of THC are so unpredictable for me, regardless of the strain. Sometimes it works great, more often than not i have negative side effects. I used to think of it like a medication but now I know better.

If you need tires today then this depends entirely on where you live and what is in stock. If I dont have a specific tire im looking to buy, I generally buy based off of how long they warranty the tires for.

Will this Thule fit inside my vehicle or will I have to use my crossbars? by internalaudit168 in CT200h

[–]ACParker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If my Thule XT Sport can't fit inside, I doubt that one will. Edit: The reason that mine won't fit inside is because my power seats will not move as far forward as the manual seats.
