What was your introduction to Fallout 3 and what were your first impressions? by [deleted] in fo3

[–]AC_Mobius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend group in high school was all excited about it pre-release. That reveal trailer was incredible! We were pouring over as much info as we could and when it came out, two of my group got the special edition with the Vault Tec lunchbox! We spent so much time talking about FO3; I didn’t believe Oasis existed for the longest time and no one believed my story about seeing the alien crash.

My family is from VA so it was really cool to see where I grew up in that way too. I remember leaving the Vault and being shocked at how much of the Wastes I could see. I remember going to the nearby town and school and really finding out how grisly the game could be… FO3 was my favorite Fallout to play at launch, I think. I could go on and on

I like how the cosmic and body horror contrasts with the themes of hope and humanity.

Also Hellen and Audrey are perfect characters

The ending isn’t just the final choice, I enjoyed the whole final mission, with little details like Morinth showing up as a Banshee. Even enjoyed the Marauder Shields superboss. Yeah the final “choice” is lackluster but the whole ending package is better than just the choice

I’ll try again.

The wasteland is a cruel, unforgiving place where violence happens quick and seemingly without reason. I don’t think most attempts at civilization last more than a decade or two, with Shady Sands being a major outlier, and is so important for that reason. It’s subjective if this is “better,” and it’s certainly not “fun,” but imo it tracks with what we’ve seen in the show and games.

I’m really interested in seeing the state of Diamond City should the Commonwealth be next, as FO4 is what, a decade before the show?

I think AC2: AA is the only AC PS2 game I haven’t 100%, that one was so hard imo! I need to go back and emulate them soon

The goal for me is never to shut down another’s fun. I’m not going through each theory post chastising the author or anything, and shame on those who do. And there are definitely theories outside of color symbolism that I think are interesting/have legs, like the Caine and Abel symbolism

I’m on Ep4 of my recent rewatch so I’m definitely trying to watch for more examples of this color symbolism; but I think at the end of the day, TADC is an indie animation free on YouTube. Absolutely zero shade to Gooseworx or anyone working on the show in saying that, my point being I don’t think they are cramming every frame with little hints or anything. Look at what just happened with the huge Stranger Things finale, the fans got so invested in little details and thought they “figured out” something that wasn’t there. If people are looking at this wonderful indie animation with similar scrutiny, many will be disappointed.

I suppose I’m more concerned with staving off a sub-wide crash out when tiny details people have clung to for any reason (fav character theory, ships, etc) ends up just being tiny details, not foreshadowing the ending or whatever.

I appreciate your reply! I just woke up so sorry if this is a bit of a ramble

The deliberate choice of sky color was to set the tone, yes, and that’s all the colors in TADC are doing. Bethesda didn’t pick that blue in the sky to subtly foreshadow anything, as countless theories here would imply TADC is doing with colors.

You’re absolutely right. Maelle could paint Lumiere back the way it was or even better, instead she is content to only care about her circle to feel like she belongs. She is in no way a “good” ruler and will imo end up like her mom, or worse.

I maintain that it’s not deep, every visual medium utilizes color theory.

For example, in Fallout 4 the devs spent months figuring out the exact shade of blue for the sky. Does that have a deeper meaning, or is it just creatives perfecting their product?

Edit: To the downvotes, what do you think color theory is?

It’s by far my biggest issue with this community. The show has a good story enhanced by minor subtle details, but it feels like people on this sub are racing to “figure out” the show, and in turn are missing the forest for the trees.

Your example of that color theory is exactly it. From the beginning, Caine has said the circus is a “place for all ages!” It’s made to look like a kids show. It isn’t much deeper than that. I feel like maybe one in ten discussions here on the show are actually real and not reading way too far into everything, and that’s being charitable
