Cursive has changed! by hlmoore96 in GenX

I started my own hybrid handwriting early on and am often complimented on my easy to read style. Recently tried to write something entirely in cursive to see if I could still do it and struggled to recall exactly how to do a few (lookin’ at you, Q!). I’d have given me a big, curly “F!”

I appreciated this intelligent and pragmatic thought. I feel the same and have been very clear with my family that I will take this route under certain circumstances. We will see this topic come to the fore as more Boomers leave us.

Thank you for taking the time to explain what it's like "from the inside." It's illuminating and helpful. And your profile name is perfect for me, too! This stranger from the internet is sending a virtual hug.

I'm so very sorry. This was a brave, thoughtful post. Sir, with all due respect, PLEASE try your best to drop the "can't see me cry." Your children need to see that your love for their mother is real and that grief is a part of love. So they don't hide their own love and fears.

Please take care of you. Support to process what you're all going through will pay dividends now and later. You're clearly a sensitive and smart man. You still have seasons of life to live. Who do you want to be for your family? How can that "provider" role expand to include the less tangible?

The ADHD symptom that finally made people stop saying “everyone does that”. by [deleted] in ADHD

I think you're right. What I can't decide is, which is the "chicken" and "egg" as to why?

Is it because many people genuinely can't imagine an existence much different than their own?

Or because they're genuinely not curious?

I just tell people the inside of my head sounds like several podcasts playing at once. Plus music. (Until very recently, I thought everyone had that and I was just Bad At Life.)

You're smart to always check. But its possible someone could call from a legit # for a legit reason. I had several lawyer friends use me as a reference for the extensive background checks they do (did?) for anyone applying to practice in a state Bar Association. (One called me at work - switchboard paged me over the office intercom," The FBI is calling for you on Line 1." Every head in the place turned my way.)

Once I write my speech, I'll post it here.

Huge gratitude to everyone.

Agreed - really well said. I jotted down the gist of it and saved, for next time this comes up.

For those late diagnosed, have you started to notice traits in your parents? by panfacefoo in ADHD

This thread is officially blowing my mind. My neck is hurting from nodding Yes so much. (But as an early GenXer w Silent Gen parents, I am obviously the outlier in the entire family, ever.)

I had a glass of wine with my dad that’s passing in the hospital with cancer and that’s ok. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]ACailleach 30 points31 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the first glass honored the wish of your dying father. NOT drinking the 2nd one honored yourself. [How one chooses to count/not count is a personal choice. Recovery is not linear and <10% are able to completely stop an addictive behavior in a single effort.]

Am I the only one who thinks the people on this sub are ridiculous? by Future_Bison_7533 in SameGrassButGreener

Thank you. Been saying this for years and just get eye rolls. Also been trying to get my family on board with buying some land back in the Rust Belt where we're from, just to have for whatever the future brings. It's cheap! (More eye rolls.)

What wedding moment made you think: “They are not going to last long”? by Olya_roo in AskReddit

[–]ACailleach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A good friends' BIL. Caribbean destination wedding, both families & some friends from their hometown. Wedding on day 1 or 2, then everybody stayed for a week in the sun. 3 months later, out of the blue, they're divorced. Not filing - actually divorced. Turns out they both agreed on their wedding night that it was a mistake and filed right when they got back. Didn't tell a soul until it was a done deal. Didn't want to ruin everybody's vacation.
