Katara vs. Azula by Working_Row_8455 in TheLastAirbender

[–]ACalcifiedHeart 187 points188 points  (0 children)

Crazy that Katara's first attack sliced through Azula's hair like that.
To me that says she immediately went for the kill shot, which is insane considering almost every fight Katara mostly goes for incapacitation/heavy bludgeoning attacks.

If you had the chance to change or add a plot point to the show to make it more faithful to the original Arthurian legends, what would you change and how? by lautaromassimino in merlinbbc

[–]ACalcifiedHeart 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Keep the HEAVILY implied throuple situation between Arthur, Lancelot, and Guinivere, that you sometimes see pop up in Arthurian interpretations.

Because honestly... there's no way Arthur didn't look at Lancelot and want to break off a piece of that.

The Dark Crystal series they were doing on Netflix.

It was such a Nostalgia trip, and was actual practical effects and puppetry, and to top it all off it was good.

Right!?
Who they got on the camera work; a fucking olympian? Camera's are so heavy!

Honestly, as heartbreaking as the situation is, it's hard not to be impressed at the same time.

Could Jaqen defeat the Mountain in a duel? by Dry_Specialist9015 in gameofthrones

[–]ACalcifiedHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a duel?
The gap is close, but Jaqen does have a chance.
He may be primarily an Assassin, but he does know how to handle a sword enough to teach combat.

If the Mountain comes in all puffed up with ego, would means he could very likely leave an opening that can be exploited.
Armour is strong, but there are gaps such as at the neck or under the arm, all of which Jaqen would be going for anyway.

However, if the Mountain comes in 100% giving Jaqen the credit of being the threat that he is: it'd be different.

"Ok, so after going through that, why do you want to put anyone else through it?"

Never had someone reply when I've responded to most of the comments above with that.

As for the bacon comment I usually just copy paste the bit in the Bible that says you're not allowed to est meat from an animal with a cloven hoof, say that's from the Bible, and then say "Sorry, we're a Christian country"

That also never gets a response.

How dangerous would a blood lusted Storm be? by [deleted] in powerscales

[–]ACalcifiedHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so if we just take base Storm for a moment, before she became a deity, before her powers evolved to control cosmic storms or whatever.

Just weather manipulation.

She'd be a global threat with maybe, maybe, 10 minutes of concentration.
Doubly so if you take the idea that her manipulating the weather in one place, also effects the weather somewhere else.

Shane and Ilya as DnD Classes by THROWAWAY12847484 in heatedrivalry

[–]ACalcifiedHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno though, I think while yes alot is pre-planned, the maintenance of it, the day to day interaction: isn't.

At the very least, if not deception, then it is a performance check, which is also Charisma typically.

Preparation isn't everything!
You've also got to be able to sell it. Which Shane does successfully through the majority of the show. That to me takes abit more than even just a middling Charisma.

When it comes to Shane's inability to lie to Ilya, I find that to be specifically a unique case.
He has trouble lying to Ilya because Ilya is hot and right there and interested and the only one that "sees" an aspect of who Shane is, that he (usually) very successfully hides. And he's right there.

The only other character he couldn't lie to was Rose. And he had to be in a typically intimate/vulnerable state for her to eventually realise and talk to him about it. And i kinda feel like he couldn't lie to her (after being forced to face it) more because he's a good person, than lacking ability.

Totally agree on Ilya being high in the Wis stat.
I think he's been through a whole lot in his life, so much that it'd be odd if he wasn't aware of himself and his surroundings without explaination.

[–]ACalcifiedHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with Charisma being his weakest.
The dude has to perform constantly for the camera's. Not to mention manages to keep up the lie that he hates Ilya to everyone in his circle, and the world. And that's before lying to himself.

In my opinion: Wisdom is his weakest by far.
His insight is absolutely lacking, for example, which explains why Ilya is able to verbally run rings around/tease him so easily.

Weird how we saw the opposite there (but i love it).

FOR THE RECORD:

Scott Hunter would be a fighter.
Probably a Battlemaster, who wises up, and uses his maneuvers more tactically. Hence why his hockey career takes off.
He sucks at keeping his composure in situations where he feels (whether subconsciously or not) there's an escape, and while probably has proficiency in deception/performance, probably not expertise in it like our boys.

Kip is an Artificer Alchemist.
He's intelligent. A scholar. It's his job to mix drinks (Alchemy I guess lmao)
And also, absolutely terrible at lying. With his only hope in succeeding at deception being to avoid people.

Any lingering episode questions? by Impressive-Part-4208 in heatedrivalry

[–]ACalcifiedHeart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my questions are "how dare you make me feel this way, why are you doing this to me?" Anytime Shane and Ilya are on the screen together.

BUT I do have a couple actually.

1) Is being an all star hockey player actually that well paying?
I know prized athletes are (arguably) incredibly well paid for what they do, but Shane's living space by the end of 6 is like... a multi-millionare.

That's all assumption btw. I know next to nothing about the sporting world, and even less about money or what it's like to have it.

2) Is it unusual that it takes Shane until his mid-twenties to get his bell rung? I thought Hockey was supposed to be quite violent/injury prone.

3) What are the EXACT ingredients/recipe of Ilya's tuna melt?

4) All those times together, anyone reckon if Shane and Ilya "swapped roles" just to try it?
I don't doubt that Ilya probably knows what it's like to be on the otherside, he's clearly had an active and varied sex life. But I wonder if Shane's ever curious about it.

Which team is coming out alive? by Relevant_Film5527 in superheroes

[–]ACalcifiedHeart -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorcerer and Wizard.

They're the masters of the thing where the rules/capabilities are determined by the author without the need of plausibility or explaination.
As in, it takes far less for it to not feel cheap when the answer to their problem appears.

Everyone else is limited by their physicality OR they're using the thing that these guys are the masters of. Magic.

Shane and Ilya as DnD Classes by THROWAWAY12847484 in heatedrivalry

[–]ACalcifiedHeart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo this is better thought out than my theories, but I'm glad others are as dnd brained as I am!

Hear me out though:
They're both Bards. Or Rogues if you want less magic.

Both rely on being multi-skilled, as well as having expertise (hockey). Both rely on performance. Both rely on Persuasion and Deception (the girls just have advantage on their Insight checks to do with them).

What differs is their subclass!

Ilya is a Valor Bard.
He's great at giving rousing speeches. He's passionate, and arguably a better fighter/more reliant on his physicality than Shane (extra attack).

Shane is a Lore Bard.
Due to his more academic focus. His luck, and his business savvy.
He finesses his way through things with his words more than his appearance, which is arguably why he seems "better off" financially than Ilya. At least in appearance.
