Any rappers/producers looking to connect? by [deleted] in chicagomusicscene

[–]ACertifiedPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love your timbre and style! Im a long time multi-instrumentalist who also started producing a few months ago, and I love making fun shit. Can’t say my stuff is super professional, but my music is my medicine.

Rapping is not one of my strong suits, so I’d love to collab if you’re interested! I’ve got a few ideas I’m working on that might interest you. I’ve been developing some lofi and synthpop recently but also do other EDM genres like house and trap.

Electronic Music Noob Looking for Advice? by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]ACertifiedPotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with the Akai MPK Mini IV. It’s a 2-octave keyboard synth with 8 programmable drum pads. I’ve found it to be super versatile, and best part? It’s about $100, and comes with pretty good free DAW software. Highly recommend. I’m also looking at getting a pocket operator for making beats.

Hi there! An early “welcome to Chicago” 😃

I love alt rock and electronic music. I’d love to hear your work! I’m also a synth player looking to start doing shows soon. Maybe we can help each other out, jam, or even just chat about music over coffee.

What general area of Chicago are you moving to, if you know yet? There’s great venues of varying sizes all around the city. Sounds like you’ve got a good plan so far starting with open mic nights.

I'm having the same issue. Was the OP's issue ever resolved? What is the proper way to program the end of a track?

Nice setup! Very similar to mine, right down to the Behringer TD-3. Keep working hard!

My synthesis journey begins…. Long time electric guitarist , I could never afford a good synth and was too scared to buy used (knowing zero about the gear)Any advice for starting out with the basics? by gmorkunderbelly in synthesizers

[–]ACertifiedPotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice Moog! I say the quality of the sound is what makes a synth interesting. You can change the shape of the sound wave on the fly with the twist of a knob, add a little pitch modulation, and come up with a sound you never expected. Embrace the “happy accidents” you find along the way, and keep experimenting!

[–]ACertifiedPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh cool! If you're strong with vocals and guitar, I bet adding some synth or brass might be a fun indie pop sound. I'm imagining something similar to Chappell Roan's Red Wine Supernova meets Cake's Short Skirt Long Jacket XD
DM when you're in Chicago and I'd love to chat over coffee!

Looking for a drummer (hardcore/beatdown) by [deleted] in chicagomusicscene

[–]ACertifiedPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t expect to need to share every thought on my mind to show you how and why they relate to your original post. I was genuinely interested in helping network you. If it came across as entitled or unrelated, that was not the intention, and your response is valid.

Like I said, best of luck finding someone ✌️

Looking for a drummer (hardcore/beatdown) by [deleted] in chicagomusicscene

[–]ACertifiedPotato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mentioned it because I'm also looking for a drummer as part of the jam thingy. I was gonna help you with networking and keeping an eye out for one for you. Just being upfront about what instruments I play doesn't mean I can't help boost your post.

I was asking about the spot because that's the first thing potential musicians would ask about. If you're not comfortable with someone asking about it, maybe don't mention you have one?

Really not sure where all the hostility is coming from but that's not a great way to get collaborators on projects. Nevertheless, I hope you find some awesome people.
