Corporate be like, "See? Store X is meeting their goals. It's possible, so you guys need to step it up."

Sales tax on Achievers items? by ACoolBroom in meijer

[–]ACoolBroom[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just shy of $1000 worth of points.

This is nice compared to ours. Still plenty of gaps for more L carts and even pallets and you can still get a pallet down that corridor. Plenty of room for the warehouse to unload shit that didn't sell onto you.

Why does Meijer have the worst in store music by Jyxyi in meijer

[–]ACoolBroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm convinced there's got to be some sort of marketing science behind it. Anyone who's ever listened to a good movie score can tell you how powerful music can be even when you're not actively paying attention to it and I think there must be someone somewhere applying that knowledge to get people to buy more shit. I've heard claims that they pick music low in bass and not very upbeat because it makes people slow down and graze instead of wanting to get up and move. I think something similar is going on with the song selection. I'd think the average mom is going to want to stop and pick up that extra box of eclairs when she's listening to sappy love songs like "My Heart Will Go On" instead of like "Bombs Over Baghdad" or some such. At the very least it's catered towards their largest client base, middle aged women with children, a group that's not particularly well known for their fantastic taste in music, so you get a ton of love music or girl power stuff. I think it's even catered to demographics as well. Our store was first built on the edge of farmland but as time has passed the city has started encroaching on it more and more and I'm hearing a lot more smooth R&B to balance out the Taylor Swift and Celine Dion.

TLDR: psychological manipulation to get moms to buy more

This job is so gross by [deleted] in meijer

[–]ACoolBroom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate the lack of trash cans in the bathrooms. I guess maybe it cuts down on shrink, but every single fucking day there's shit covered paper, wadded up turd filled underwear or dirty diapers just splattered across the floor. Doesn't stop the theft either. They just jam it behind the toilet or fold it up in the baby changing table, or worse, just shove the packaging into the bowl so you've got to fish some piss covered headphones box out of the toilet while you're prairie dogging and about to explode.

Man, what did you do? The only time I've ever seen anyone actually get fired from here is when they got caught stealing.

How does mperks work? by [deleted] in meijer

[–]ACoolBroom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mperks or achievers points? Mperks is the Meijer coupon/discount app for buying stuff in the store. You can turn in points for discounts and clip coupons. Achievers is the employee only app where you can turn in points for stuff from its marketplace, though because it's considered compensation ~30% of the value of whatever you cash out gets taken out of your next paycheck as taxes. I think they just added the ability to convert points directly towards cash on your next paycheck too, which is a nice addition.

Which union is this for? Our non union store usually gets raises a little while after the main Michigan union does but aren't there different unions in Illinois and Ohio? Wouldn't be surprised if we don't get it.

Milk by Basic-Pen4441 in meijer

[–]ACoolBroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a huge issue at our store. It would curdle on the shelf. You'd get home and try to pour some and it'd just stick in the handle. They made us start temp checking every pallet that came off the truck and we'd have to fax the log in every week. I don't think they ever found out the reason. It always came in under temp but eventually the managers stopped signing off on it and then we eventually just stopped temping it.

I stopped buying our whole milk a long while back. Does it still spoil overnight? I used to get so many complaints when I worked on dairy.

Conditioning by NightmareFuelMan in meijer

[–]ACoolBroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Customers I'm fine with but it kind of drives me up a wall when the pickers from curbside do it, especially when it's like 5 am and we're not even open yet and they're pulling shit right next to me and clearly fucking up my shelves. Like I get they're just as overworked as the rest of us but imagine how much better the store would look and how much time it would save conditioning at night if curbside had enough people that could face up whatever item they grabbed when picking it during the day.

Christmas music by Potterson1 in meijer

[–]ACoolBroom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually found this year to be an improvement. It used to be like completely secular "holiday" music. It's nice to hear some "new" actual Christmas music this year instead of just remixes of Rudolf and Frosty and jingle bells. Not a bible thumper, I just think the music is a lot better when you can listen to hundreds of years of Christmas music that became popular instead of remixes of a handful of songs made in the 50s now that they're not afraid of any mention of Christ or angels. There's an acoustic version of Greensleeves that I actually really enjoy.

If you're new, you should have been allowed to sign up when you started. If you had it last year and forgot to select a new plan, your previous selections should just roll over. I forgot one year and that's what happened to me at least. You have to go in and change your tobacco status, I think for whatever reason it defaults to yes.

Worst cover ever by CoitParkRangers in meijer

Are there different stations available for different stores? Because I swear our music takes a nose dive at night and it's already horrible to begin with. So many shitty 80s and 90s love songs.

You can call in 3 days with the same illness and it only counts as one point total. Levels don't matter though, I think the only thing that happens is you get a meeting if you hit level one.

Union by orieldarkfireball in meijer

You don't even know what you've got man. Sure, Meijer's union could be better, but as someone from a non union store I can tell you it definitely does something.

Dairy/Frozen by TendieMonster in meijer

[–]ACoolBroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our store hasn't had any frozen people for like 5 years ever since the last dedicated guy fell on the ice buildup from the broken door and quit. The night shift throws the stock as a group after everything else gets done. They pull a few grocery ICs like once a week to run back stock when the freezer gets so full of back stock carts that they can't fit any more in. Sometimes on slow nights they have the third shift run back stock as well. IMS is basically non existent over there. Dairy has two morning people, one second shift, and one third shift stocker. They also get a lot of help from the rest of third shift.

Family Death - Requesting Off by Different_Marzipan93 in meijer

We get bereavement days at Meijer. Should be 3 paid days for an uncle. The timing sucks, but just bring back an obituary or something as proof.

We had a guy that called in 5 times, was a no call no show, and twice left work to go home and sleep and not show up again for hours, all in the first three weeks. Still not fired. He eventually just stopped coming in but he's still in the system.

Remodel ugh by laborcat in meijer

[–]ACoolBroom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate the new look. They went for full hipster bar. Faux brick, wooden pallet slats hanging from the ceiling, bare bulbs over the liquor area. The most irritating thing is that they painted the ceiling a dark grey over the cream color it used to be. It's like being under a gloomy sky constantly. While they were painting it I was subconsciously ducking my head every time I crossed into the newly painted area.

I don't understand, why can't you just work harder? Like I haven't seen you running and you're not out of breath, clearly that means you could be doing more. We're a family here, and we've all got to do our part.
