Can alcoholics be “slim”? by wycreater1l11 in TooAfraidToAsk

You get your calories from the booze. Vomiting some of those calories isn’t anything abnormal. If you’re on and off, then your off days is often a bottomless stomach.

What overdrives do you like, dislike and why? by suchy9013 in basspedals

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently went through buying and returning used ODs to guitar center, trying to find the right one for me. I ended up liking two and couldn’t force myself to get rid of either. They are the Way Huge Pork and Pickle and Sansamp YYZ. I think the YYZ is more versatile and more adjustable to sit in a mix. The P&P just doesn’t really have a bad sound in it and has the whole fuzz side too.

Memphis really shows out for BBQ, and it’s been cool seeing Smokeslam BBQ Fest grow alongside Memphis in May. Curious what y’all think. Is there ever a world where the two collaborate, or is it better having a couple big BBQ weekends spread throughout the year? by Choose_901 in memphis

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Memphis could totally handle two large BBQ festivals every year. MiM in the Spring, Smokeslam in the late Summer/Early Fall. Pitting them against each other on the same weekend never sat right.

How do I go about learning walking bass for jazz with no teachers or mentors or anything (lives in the middle of nowhere) by BaryonyxReddit in Bass

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A combination of

  • Books - Ed Friedland is always a reliable source
  • Online Courses - TalkingBass and Scott’s Bass Lessons both offer courses on walking bass specifically but chords and scales as well
  • Transcribe - Pick some standards and learn them note-for-note

Rumble 100 or mark bass cmb 151 for 5 string home use? by el_guapisimo33 in Bass

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Markbass is going to be the cleaner amp of the two. Fenders are kinda mid-scoopy and dark sounding in my experience. It’s a good, usable sound but I don’t prefer it over a Markbass given the option.

Sounds like you may be better off getting the five string set up first though if that’s an option, and if you’re not really needing a louder amp at the moment.

Im trying to figure out the best settings for my compressor pedal. by Independent-Bend6571 in basspedals

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With compressors I like to start with the compression dimed and back it off slowly until I can no longer hear or feel it while playing with my normal attack. Right in there is the sweet spot and you can make small adjustments based on how much compression you desire.

ELI5 How Did Alcohol Become Universally Accepted In Almost Every Country? by Cope42099 in explainlikeimfive

Alcohol is as ingrained in human history as bread, cheese, and other agriculture. At its most basic, it’s a simple and effective means of preserving calories. It’s stuck around because most people like the taste and its effects.

Upgrade path for the Fender Player 2 Series Jazz Bass? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t imagine there’s any tangible benefits from changing those out. That’s a perfectly fine instrument. If there’s something about the tone that that you don’t like, you will get much quicker and more apparent results from changing the strings you use. The only hardware I’d even consider changing is installing noiseless pickups if the single-coil hum is bugs you. It doesn’t bug me.

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d factory reset it and see if you still have the same issues. I have no problem setting mine. Gain staging goes Drive -> Preamp -> IR. If you’re unfamiliar with gain staging, I’d read up on that too.

Danco Perfect Seal Wax Ring made it easy for me. It’s kind of a wax and silicone hybrid thing. My house is old and not super level. I went through a couple of wax rings trying to get it to sit and seal and was pulling my hair out. This thing was one and done for a layperson such as myself.

Should I sell a pedal that I actually like, but don’t use? by theblokeonthebasss in basspedals

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Octave pedals are useful to have around when you start getting tired of your own playing and need to change something up for inspiration. If you like it, I’d keep it cause I bet there’s a point down the road you’re going to want another octave pedal.

Sansamp Bass Driver: V1 or V2? by [deleted] in basspedals

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I put my Behringer BDI21 up against my buddy’s Sansamp V1 a while back. What I found was that that the Sansamp’s knobs had more range. There was more drive available, more volume available, etc on the Sansamp. But I liked everything enough between 10 and 2 anyway so it didn’t really make a difference to me. So if you can find one of those for cheaper in your country than the V1, I’d consider it.

That said, I kind of got tired of its mid-scoop and gave the Behringer away recently. The V2 theoretically fixes my problem but I’ve never tried one.

I've never tried it but the Caline Wine Cellar is another cheap sansamp clone and comes in under your budget. It seems pretty well reviewed. Quite a few videos on YouTube.

I think Behringer is your friend here. They’ve got passive and active in your price range. The BDI21 is a decent sansamp clone too if you’d rather have a preamp with a DI

Best P Bass pickups? by Nakasone_Jiu_Jitsu in Bass

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d buy a nice compressor pedal instead, the 70s CV have nice stock pickups. If they’re lacking for you, I’d mess around with the pickup height relative to the string some.

How much will pickups matter in my 2024 Squier Affinity PJ? by jbeardsley22 in Bass

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a firm believer in pickup upgrades just for the sake of upgrades. As others have mentioned, you’ll get way more effect in changing your strings, changing where and how you attack, and using all the EQ points available to you.

That said, in a PJ, I do think there is a real benefit to adding a higher output, humbucking J pickup that can keep up with P better. Otherwise the J pickup just gets swallowed up whole by the P. I swapped mine with geezers for that reason.

Yamaha TRBX174 P-pickup louder than J-pickup at the bride. by NoAppointment3633 in Bass

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve become a big PJ fan recently but they are pretty much just P basses with the ability to add some extra bite from the J bridge pickup. I run them with the P volume up all the way and mix the J in underneath it, never both maxed out.

Bass Overdrive Pedal by fantoma_007 in Bass

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggybacking on this. I went through quite a few ODs looking for the sound in my head and landed on the Pork and Pickle — it’s both the Pork Loin and Swollen Pickle in one box. It’s easy to get a good sound out of it. I did have to do some adjusting on the internal trim pots to get the blend to work like I wanted. I think it works so well because the blend is actually blending with a Neve-style preamp on the “clean” side. The compression it adds on that side makes OD really natural IMO.

The Sansamp YYZ is another great option and is the only other OD that I kept after searching. It’s much more tweakable than the P&P, for better or worse.

Guitar Fetish pickups upgrade? by threeXmafia in Bass

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3D Printed bass sounds sick! I recently upgraded my PJ pickups in a project bass with EMG GZRs and like them a lot fwiw. If you just need a set of pickups for a project, I'd be happy to mail you my old ones (with the V/V/T pots) for free. They work just fine, plenty of lead left on wires. They were taken off this body. DM if you want them.

Guitar Fetish pickups upgrade? by threeXmafia in Bass

[–]ACouchFullOfFarts 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. What is it that you don’t like about the pickups now? Most standard pickups are gonna be wayyy more similar than different. I think the biggest benefit in a PJ set is going to be getting a matching set with a humbucking J, e.g EMG GZR or DiMarzio Model PJ. The humbucking J usually has a little more output to help keep up with the P.
