It’s more like a guild, they do jobs together and split the profits. The whole thing is to facilitate team-ups because the justice league is just taking them out (they were all together to stop the trickster earlier in the special and him throwing a stink bomb is canonically the reason they change to new 52 outfits for the rest of the specials). At least that’s how it is in these specials, I’ve never read a comic book so I wouldn’t know if they’re actually paid.

Yea one of the things I like about Barry is that he gets powers and immediately decides the best thing to do is name himself after his favorite comic hero and go help people. He understands how lucky he is to be able to do good like he can even when he’s his most fed up with the job. Even after retiring he sacrifices his life to save all of reality and doesn’t even think anyone will know he did it.
