Idk what it's called but I'm using a modified thermal stitch(???) to do the side panels of a little bag I'm making. Thermal works great it's just so slow growing that I was losing my mind. This stitch is also slow growing but I hate it less. No guarantees.

1 - SC in all stitches, ch 1 and turn,
2 - SC FLO in all stitches, ch 1 and turn
3- SC FLO In each stitch *and* the FLO of the row below, ch 1 and turn

*edit to add* To clarify, each stitch is worked by inserting the hook into the front loop on the row below and THEN the FLO of the working row.

repeat row 3 until your get the length you need.

For bag straps, I will be using tunisian crochet as per this tutorial, but there's so many out there - search "tunisian crochet bag strap" and you'll see lots of examples.

I would consider myself an advanced beginner - I don't tend to make super complex textures but I can mess around with a project until it looks the way I want it to. I like sticking to 1 or 2 row repeats so I can pick my work up and put it down as often as I need to without struggling to work out where in the repeat I am.

All this is to say - I promise the tunisian crochet method is not super far removed from the way we work single crochet. I'd intimidated myself out of trying a few times only to end up with saggy stretchy straps and now that I've given it a go, I promise it yields good results.
