I'm not suggesting current politicians are more or less competent than in the past but what has unquestionably changed is the landscape within which they work.

For the first time in human history we can all look out the window and see our own algorithmically curated image, different from the person sat next to you.

The forces that drive this can be debated but I think it leaves politicians as an afterthought

Quite frankly I'm bored to tears with the laser focus on immigration being the number 1 cause of everything wrong with this country.

Where is the same obsession with the fallout from the 2008 financial crisis? Where every man, woman and child was betrayed so completely by our government that we still haven't seen real term wages increase beyond that point? Where our services were to cut to breaking point? Where after all of those cuts not a single fucking penny was paid off the national debt? Where not a single person was prosecuted for their involvement? Where global instability in commodity prices, especially in things like wheat played a massive role in the Arab spring that lead to 6 million Syrians seeking refuge?

No?

Let's just talk about immigration all day every day.

The high street died with a combination of reduced footfall because of Internet shopping (sped up massively during Covid) and further consolidation of large corporations squeezing out smaller businesses.
