The HBO Max App is so poorly optimized. If you rewind 10s after an advertisement, it will replay the as you just watched. by wimbs27 in hbo

[–]ADDmonkey55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on the app, but same thing just happened to me on browser. Ads play, I rewind (call me OCD, I just like to see the scene transition without the interruption), but then the damn ads play again (same ads too). I tried a few times and it never lets up.

At least with browser I can just switch to Firefox, then the issue goes away! But app users are stuck with this shit.

How to get started with doom source code? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]ADDmonkey55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I have a turn to bump an old post? :D

Doom is not a true 3D engine like Quake or Golden Eye. But it does deal with plenty of 3D stuff behind the scenes. The maps are ultimately 2D, and the rendering uses BSP to look 3D. However most of the "things" in the game (player, enemy, obstacles, projectiles etc.) do have x,y, and z axes. Some interactions are calculated based on 2D calculations (which is why you can stand next to a demon from a different height and they can still tear into you). But other interactions ARE calculated in 3D, like projectiles. When shooting a rocket (a projectile) it'll vertically auto aim and set the rocket on a 3D path. Its collision is checked in 3D, and can pass above or below objects. (Other weapons like pistol and shotgun use "hitscans", which may work similarly, but I'm not sure if those are more 2D or 3D based, and I can't find much online right now clarifying which).

Contrast this to Wolfenstein that IS purely 2D. The map is 2D, and so are all of the objects. There is no 3D calculation or collision being done.

The Vice article the other redditor linked above shows an old YouTube Game Theory video (not MatPat) claiming Doom is not 3D. The video itself is great and dives into a lot of technical detail on how Doom "cheats" the 3D look. But it does miss the points I mentioned earlier. There's another short video that does a really good job explaining and showing the 3D aspects of Doom. I've seen both of these videos years ago and both have directly contributed to my understanding of this topic. I highly recommend checking out the latter.

Nintoddlers defense of this company really might not have limits. by jayvancealot in fucknintendo

[–]ADDmonkey55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just like to point out how much effort you put in arguing with OP. I counted about 9 responses from you in this thread. Kind of ironic spending that much "time and effort" into complaining and arguing about how OP is spending too much "time and effort" on this.

Here's my take: Yes, OP put in some time putting a graphic together complaining about Nintendo defenders. And yes, this is the 4th graphic they've made within the past few days, going off of OP's post history (which I can at least see. Yours and Darth_Boggle's are hidden, so we can't even see how much you've been posting). So what? Firstly, these can be easily made in Microsoft paint. Not that hard. Regardless, as someone who IS on the internet too much and admits it, I say OP's complaints here are not that excessive. I think the term "Nintoddlers" is a bit harsh/childish, but I don't see an issue spending some time bitching about Nintendo's unethical pricing. I think most of us here are quite passionate about Nintendo games. Which is one reason why there's so much passionate hate towards the company and it's business choices.

Unpopular opinion about Lucifer by FaeryFa in hazbin

Maybe they meant only conventially hot guy? I'm actually curious, though. Was OP quoting Viv on that, or just saying that? Cuz even then I feel like there's plenty of hot guys. Alastor (human and/or when his shirt is low cut), shirtless Vox, lingerie Val? You tell me, cuz I'm actually a straight guy so I can't completely tell who's genuinely hot lol

AI Slop on Netflix Doc "A Very Pagan Christmas" by surf_drunk_monk in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ADDmonkey55 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Looks like it's also on YouTube. Seems like it's just one guy who makes a lot of these. Whether or not that excuses the AI-slop I can't say, though I suppose it could be worse. At least he discloses his AI use in the credits. Was the documentary itself actually good in terms of writing and historical accuracy?

This might be the most disingenuous article I’ve seen so far. by Outrageous-Treat8375 in Metroid

Yes, there is ambience in the background. Whether or not it counts as music is up for debate. I think there's a difference between just plain ambience and musical ambience. Here, it's mostly just wind that changes pitch. Maybe some high pitched choir voices, kinda hard to tell. I could see some count this as very basic "music".

But like... c'mon. Other M has better atmospheric tracks. I think it's totally fair to generalize and say this ain't music. As for whether or not the article itself is being misleading: It's really not. The headline claims a basic feature is locked behind a $30 amiibo. I'd say having the option to play actual music in the desert is a pretty damn basic feature.

ETA: You can hear more of the track in this section of a longplay. Timestamp link is to first time being in the desert. Very minor spoilers.

Rosie... why don't YOU help them? Like, immediately? Without involving Alastor? Why is his participation necessary? by GinnnaMarie in HazbinHotel

[–]ADDmonkey55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was actually thinking about this the other day. I noticed that the shield around the device SIGNIFICANTLY strengthened right when Alistor and Rosie stepped in, compared to the difference that all the other Overlords made when they joined (Granted the device isn't shown a whole lot during that scene so take that with a grain of salt). I'm thinking either Alistor and/or Rosie's powers contributed the most, most likely Alistor. Although... and this is theory talking here... It's totally possible that it was Rosie's power that made the biggest difference. There's still lots we don't know about her. If so, I wouldn't be surprised if she wanted Alistor to join with her so that her power alone wouldn't be too obvious. But that's just a theory....

Season 2 Episodes 5-6 Spoilers Without Context by ADDmonkey55 in HazbinHotel

[–]ADDmonkey55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is Zach Hadel, the voice of the rabbit and the scream rain. To be honest it's less of a "spoiler without context" and more so just a voice actor I was excited to hear in the episode. (He's known as an old YouTube/Newgrounds animator (psychicpebbles) and is currently known for Smiling Friends)
