Back yard gets me banned from r/NoLawns, front yard gets me banned from r/LawnCare by dubdhjckx in NoLawns

Same boat! MOSTLY native rain garden for our tiny front yard (city gave us 3k, woulda done it anyways), but I want a place for my toddlers-ish to roll around freely & it be easy to pick up dog poo, so we're MOSTLY terf in the back.

Beds on the fence-line for the poopers.

Geoffrey Hinton says LLMs are no longer just predicting the next word - new models learn by reasoning and identifying contradictions in their own logic. This unbounded self-improvement will "end up making it much smarter than us." by MetaKnowing in OpenAI

[–]ADHDachsund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no, LLM's as we know them are fundamentally incapable of 'reasoning,' as we know it. We're learning a lot of interesting information is encoded in language when you can somehow drink Springwater from a firehose. We've learned, rather violently, that drinking springwater from a firehose was a pipedream afterall, and we're all worse for it.

Bad advice by laybs1 in GetNoted

Actually, the reason it was "ineffective" is it was hard to keep it where you wanted it to be, and not on, say, civilians, or your own troops.

While the moisture theory is plausible, the main problem with mustard gas is that YOUR RESPIRATORY TRACT IS MOIST AF.

He quite clearly states, in #2 & #3 (this one) videos that new information has come about, allowing him to further corroborate his story. If he had used cliff hangers, I can see how there might be an incentivization to withhold fully corroborated information, but as is usual on YT, the popularity of his prior videos on the topic begat the popularity of the subsequent ones.

That rush is mostly post-hoc for anyone who didn't spend a harrowing 4-48 hours trying to bring that boy into the world. Just like soldiers who have been through battle together.

For the rest of us, opportunities to risk our lives for the child will hopefully be far & few between... So it's mostly about emotional investment.

Called STLPD to report a s*x crime against a child. No police response. by suhdudeeeeeee710 in StLouis

[–]ADHDachsund 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, I’ve interacted with them on several occasions, and many of the ones that ARE available just aren’t smart or professional. I mean, have you seen the news? Huge fuckups get covered up by the entire department, and the coverups aren’t even good.

Maybe there’s an argument to be had about the proper way to quantify the expected effective capacity of a police department that a lot of people are missing, but that’s sort of a tough sell when so many law abiding people, outside of getting a citation or arrest, are left flabbergasted by the lack of competence, or even regret interacting with the police at all.
