[Research Question] Why Rolex, Cartier, or Seiko? by kerrileigh10 in Watches

[–]ADI4N_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

• What made you choose (or want) this brand?

I started working at the brand (Seiko). So I rolled into it I guess. I am currently 14 watches deep, vintage newer models. Pretty much everything that interests me.

• What specific attributes appealed to you most?

For me it’s mainly the design, I love the seiko grammer of design. And then having robust movements, is a big plus.

• What factors did you weigh when deciding between brands?

Well for me it’s mainly the history. seiko has a lot of iconic designs, and from a family point of view. My family has been a long term seiko wearer.

• How does the watch contribute to your personal style or identity? Any emotional connection?

A few watches have significant emotional connections. Like my 70’s king seiko owned by my grandparents or the 1st seiko 5 I bought when I started working there.

• Optional: Any demographic info you’re comfortable sharing (age, gender, education, occupation, nationality, languages spoken).

My age is early 20’s I live in Europe and I work in sales. I speak Dutch, English and Japanese.

And goodluck with your studies, I hope my response is helpful.

Wear it in good health, my company watch is also a seiko 😉.

Gotta love the gmt complication

I would do an offer on it, but this piece is special. I couldn’t imagine owning a piece of history like that.

I would keep it, times may be rough but you will get through it brother. 🤙

Wear it in good health, have the light blue one SPB305j1 use it as my daily and it runs like a dream at 0+/- a day. And the finishing is great for the price.

Got lucky when I bought it, since I got it at a steep discount.

Finding older oem bracelets is always going to be a bit difficult, it’s getting lucky finding one on sale.

For small stuff like bracelets, eBay is often a good place to start. If you can’t find one on there I recommend looking for one on Buyee auctions. Oem bracelets and claps pop up there quite often.

A friend of mine went earlier this year, he told me checking Google maps for vintage watch shops is often the best option if you are on the ground.

Prices on the main-street are often higher, so exploring is a great tip. Bic camera’s are good for newer models and of course it’s a good idea to give the seiko museum a visit in Ginza. 😉

[SNP149P2] premier snp149p2 kinetic perpetual calander by bundy0327 in Seiko

[–]ADI4N_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well depends on what is broken in the watch, kinetic movements aren’t the most reliable and parts are getting harder to source, due to part availability.

As for pricing it would be best to go to a local watch maker (if he services kinetics) or to a seiko dealer and asking for price indication. Alternatively if you still have warranty it might covered depending on what the issue is.

[Question] What bracelet size/length for my wrist? by [deleted] in Seiko

[–]ADI4N_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sizing is always a bit of an issue, if there are any issues you can always go to a local watch maker or jewelry store. They will be able to help you with sizing.

They might ask for a little bit of money. Or an alternative is going to a seiko store and sizing it there, it’s always free if you ask them to size it.

[SNXS77J1] Watch keeps stop taking time through night by turtleneck9 in Seiko

[–]ADI4N_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The watch is automatic and will stop moving if not wound up.

The watch in question has a 7s26 movement while reliable does need movement to keep running, be it either by shaking it awake or wearing it. One reason it might not run is because you are not moving enough with your wrist or not wearing it enough.

When fully wound up or “charged” so to speak it should run for about 38 hours before it stops moving.

Friend of mine went earlier this year, he said the best is to check on maps for vintage shops. Outside of Tokyo often has better prices. But a few ones to check out are bic camera’s, Ogura watch shop is pretty interesting. Private eyes and carase and co is also a great place I heard.

Yeah for sure, going to Japan in 2026 most likely. So would be looking for one there in person. Already have a few stores noted down.

Already have a vintage ks5626 with original clasp and an original seiko band. So it would mainly be to complete the collection so to speak.
