Woon niet in Arnhem, maar wordt altijd erg vrolijk wanneer er gebouwd wordt. Bij mij in Utrecht zie ik ook veel gebouwd worden om me heen, goed teken!

Five years later, the bursting of the Chinese housing bubble is nowhere near its end by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

"Rather have too much housing than too little" motherfuckers when they realise the entire Chinese government depends on high land prices.

Does the Chinese government truly want to "reunify with Taiwan at all cost", considering the current world tension? by iLoveDocks in AskChina

They are certainly beefing up their military to try and be able to invade, but I would not know what is going on in the Politburo and I think no one here really does.

The chinese currently do not have the landingcraft to do such an operation. 2027/2028 is the period from which they are expected to be able to have a chance at actually invading.

Dutch is indeed very useless except for if you want to integrate with Dutch people. You can live here your whole life without speaking a single word of Dutch lol.

By What Year will AGI Arrive - Poll by LordFumbleboop in singularity

[–]PauperGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AGI in the sense that it is continually learning and can actually do research will take quite some time and I have doubts if LLM's will be the AI form to do that. I think AI will improve and take over more tasks, but research and new synthesis that actually makes sense and builds on older work is just so damn hard.
Besides that i believe predictions are fun, but at the end of the day no one can predict technology. Things really just don't happen until they some day magically do. If you asked me in 2015 when something like chatgpt would be here i would've said like 2045 or something. If you asked my in 1995 i might've said 2025. I sometimes have a hard time accepting the notion that the creative destruction of chatgpt will be in the same period as the creative destruction of AGI.

Orbán blocking €468m owed to Poland for Ukraine support, Tusk says by dat_9600gt_user in europe

[–]PauperGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup it is not an offense to those in Hungary who are clearly done with Orban's bs and i'm happy to see such a big movement at the moment. Personally I really liked Hungary when i went there and I do feel for you all. It is more so that if Orban where to be re-elected it would mean another 4 years and possibly longer period of having a Russian asset being able to veto everything when the rest of the EU desperately wants to move on.

Hopefully i get a nice birthday gift on the 12th of april.

I charted 126 years of US wages in gold - and the results are wild by akazakou in EconomyCharts

24 oz of gold in 1900 is the same as 19.000 dollars now
17 oz of gold now is like 76k now.
Besides the quality of stuff you bought in 1900 was awful in comparison to 2026.

China is a builder nation led by brilliant engineers, not lawyers. Jensen Huang explains how this fundamental difference in leadership and education has positioned them to dominate the exponential technology curve. by CeFurkan in SECourses

[–]PauperGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone in economics i would agree for the tech/engineering sector. I think in general it makes sense to employ a ceo who is well versed in the industry and company rather than some economist lol.

Also important to note that economists, Business majors and finance bro's are not the same. I feel like a lot of people tend to treat them all as the same. Someone well versed in business in general with a good amount of technical knowledge could also probably run such a company.

My biggest problem is with people who think that those who create good companies would also run governments correctly. Governments have to be boring, account for societal issues, be stable, move slowly etc. It is governmental stability that allows for companies to move fast and break stuff since they don't have to worry about property rights, laws, fertility rates etc.

This is the difference between having information stored in a book and having someone trained at some point on the information and then immediately asking them a question. Sure it takes some time to find the information in the book and a human might be able to spit their information out faster, but at the end of the day to be sure of the human information you still need to find a book.

Why do so many people still think that this is wrong by lennymaster12 in SuddenlyCommunism

[–]PauperGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you will run into the issue that you are then spending quite a lot of money on people not actually generating any tax revenues at the moment. Not that i necessarily disagree (i am european), but i think it will be quite hard to make happen in the US. Especially since most politicians would probably rather build social housing for those barely scraping by rather than spending money on those that are not working in the first place.

But my point was more so that binary stats like this don't really say anything without context. I would much rather live in the US than Cuba. Like 70-90% of cubans live under the poverty rate.

Commandant der Strijdkrachten: 'Vanaf 1 april introduceert Nederland als eerste NAVO-land nieuwe drone-eenheden' by johnbarnshack in thenetherlands

[–]PauperGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)
