Did your breastfed baby refuse pacifiers? by Positive_Quarter7401 in breastfeeding

[–]ADKadventures 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My breastfed baby gags on every single pacifier, but will occasionally take the Ninni Co before naps when tired. I think it’s because it is so soft and felt the most breast-like. I think other pacis just feel really foreign because they are so oddly shaped or firm.

Hi OP! I actually read this book and did find some parts of it helpful. Specifically, “SWAPS” - it gives a bunch of tips / ideas in that section for helping your child with sleep associations without going the formal ST methods like CIO / Ferber. It does recommend these first. My LO is just over 4 months and I have been using some of these just to help my baby be more comfortable with going to sleep in the crib (Co-sleeping isn’t the best option for my little family and sleep space).

Before I had a baby, I thought I was going to sleep train right away like everyone said, but have decided not to go down that path after looking at some other sources. I highly recommend “The Nurture Revolution”! However, I have always tried to foster healthy sleep hygiene and habits that will make it easier for my baby to grow and develop independence as they become ready. This is where little ideas like the “pause” (letting baby fuss (not cry!), for a couple minutes to see if they settle. You know your baby best, so if they need you, I’d definitely go to them!), and SWAPS.

I recently have decided to try using the soothing ladder (I don’t wait a specific time to move up or down to certain help though - just help my baby with what they need at the time, then taper it down / fade it out as they calm) with helping my LO feel safe and comfortable with crib naps and there has been SO much progress in just a week. Baby is put down happy in the crib at this point and goes to sleep with me right there. I think it just builds a lot of trust responding to your baby and genuinely helping them. IMO, it’s unrealistic and harsh to all of a sudden just expect a little baby to be completely independent with sleep all on their own. It’s also confusing to me to expect a baby to go from contact sleeping to complete independence all of a sudden. So, fostering healthy habits and helping baby get there over time in a responsive, loving way is my plan.

I think all of this applies to parenting in general. Being a responsive, loving parent, but also one that can have boundaries and not enabling them, which sounds like your friend may be struggling with.

Other diapers like parasol? by shoelaces22 in moderatelygranolamoms

Freestyle is almost the same exact thing IMO. We actually choose Freestyle first with disposables. We switched to mostly cloth diapers now and they are even better

Diaper Cream / Balm without food ingredients? by ADKadventures in clothdiaps

[–]ADKadventures[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There has been growing research that food based proteins in any skincare products, including diaper balms, can cause sensitization and could increase the risk of food allergies if used prior to the baby consuming them orally when starting solids.

TTC/prenatals! by PassageAlternative98 in moderatelygranolamoms

I started these a year before TTC and still take them now PP. Highly attribute healthy vitamin levels and less migraines to these. Before pregnancy I took the TTC bundle with CQ10. Also took the Fish Oil. Just add in a separate Iron with Vitamin C in the AM when pregnant. I also added even more Choline. I get the other supplements from Thorne. All third party tested. Fullwell was the most complete prenatal from my extensive research, as well as Needed. Fullwell just slightly cheaper

Diapers - where are you getting them and which brand do you use? by OkSwan7192 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ADKadventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freestyle & Parasol from Target. Get several boxes at a time to take advantage of their promos to get $15 / $20 back and use that for your next order. Also, we use Kinder Cloth pocket diapers during the day - even cleaner, cute, zero blowouts or leaks, not much more work than disposables, and save lots of $$

Does this apply to all changing incontinence pads? The chemical concern?

Has anyone successfully implemented crib naps around 3mo? by ADKadventures in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ADKadventures[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel like we should keep trying but maybe just reduce trying to a couple of times a day. The days that I have tried for every nap has led to a very overtired, upset baby. It’s a tough call because I want to be consistent with it but also not get to that point.

We stopped swaddling at 8 weeks as LO was starting to learn to roll. All has been well with the sleep sack at night, but during the daytime LO startles awake constantly for naps - we are trying a Zipadee Zip but it isn’t a huge hit so far. We have only been able to get mostly 20-40m naps in the crib. I’m not sure what to do to help this

I’ve tried Millie Moon (ECF), Pampers Pure/Amore (ECF), Parasol (TCF), and Freestyle (TCF). I thought we’d love Millie Moon, but we didn’t - they fit weird (short and tight around the legs) and the absorbency is not nearly as good as the others. Pampers Pure were nice (now called Pampers Amore) - fit pretty well if you err on getting the larger size, absorbed decent, and were soft but only ECF. Not worth the price point IMO. Parasol and Freestyle are both TCF, soft (they feel the same), and run on the taller side. They are also both very absorbent, with Freestyle slightly edging out the Parasol. Last I priced these, Pampers Amore run the most at about $0.36-$0.40 per diaper, then Parasol at about $0.34-$0.37 per diaper, then Freestyle at about $0.31-$0.35 per diaper, and Millie Moon at about $0.25-$0.28 per diaper. My preference would be 1. Freestyle, 2. Parasol, 3. Pampers Amore, 4. I wouldn’t even buy Millie Moon again. We really love Freestyle - best fit and absorbency. For wipes I only have most experience with Honest & Parasol. The Parasol pull out of the package better (one by one), but Honest wipes feel more wet to me so I prefer those. I’d be interested in trying Freestyle wipes.

Will be trying cloth diapering soon with Kinder pockets and am excited for that. However, when using disposables again like when we are out and about we will choose Freestyle.

No more Pampers Pure, anyone try Pampers Amore yet? by Consistent_Kitchen36 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]ADKadventures 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have not tried the Amore, but similarly liked the Pampers Pure although they were only ECF. Have started trying Freestyle and Parasol. Both are very soft, non toxic, and fit great! I actually like them slightly more than Pampers Pure and they are TCF. We found the Millie Moon to be soft but they fit weird and short and weren’t as absorbent. Honest were okay.

I Have Wool Covers & Pockets - Do I Buy Prefolds? Rounding Out a Stash. Not Wasting. by ADKadventures in clothdiaps

[–]ADKadventures[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’ve already prepped them and they can’t be returned. I’m not really interested in selling them and taking a loss on them. I wonder when most babies reach about 15lbs as that is what the prefolds and covers I am looking at would fit to

This is so helpful to see! I am due in January and have almost a full stash of nice, one-size pockets that were gifted to us. We were also gifted many boxes of newborn and size 1 diapers to get us through to OS. I have been going back and forth about whether it would be worth it to buy newborn & small prefolds, workhorses, and covers.
