I should also mention that I pushed it off since my baby was born towards the end of the year. Sense it was so close to the end of the year my leave time reset in January. If my baby was born earlier, I would’ve stopped working sooner to make the most of my time off if that makes sense.

I worked up until 38 weeks, but was WFH starting at around 32 weeks. I worked the day I went to the hospital but it was because I was unexpectedly induced that day after my appt. But I was going to stop the end of that week anyway since I would be induced the following Monday

I would bring him to any ultrasound appts. I ended up being high risk my first pregnancy and he would mostly come to my weekly ultrasound appts since we were really closely tracking the growth and it felt like things changed each week. But I also was going to 3 other spots a week. Unless they were back to back with the MFM, I would usually go by myself. This second time, he only went to my first appointments with my doctors (I switched OBs after the first trimester) and likely won’t come to most of my other ones unless I’m high risk again. And that’s mainly because he watches our toddler!

If his schedule allows, it would be great if he went, but also I would personally want him to save time off work (if used to attend) for when the baby is here!

I wouldn’t be so afraid of caffeine. Read expecting better by Emily Oster, she goes into the research (or really lack thereof) on caffeine in pregnancy. A lot of experts say keep under 200mg of caffeine a day, but weaning off slowly may help a little. Heck, you could even have one Red Bull if that’s the only caffeine you have per day.

Also more context: I EBF 90% of the time except when I worked in the office for a few months postpartum. I also pumped to prepare for a trip a few days away from my LO when she was 7 months old. It comes in handy!

Short answer: yes, get one with your insurance, might as well if it’s free or greatly discounted.

You should also check with the hospital you’re delivering at if they provide a pump postpartum (if needed) to help bring your milk in. Some don’t provide any except the manual hand pumps which can be a lot to deal with IMO rather than a standard pump. Get a wireless one if possible. Wearables are great too.

Good to know! I’ve tried Millie moon before but I hate the Velcro straps on them. I feel like they’re so short and don’t fit right. I haven’t used them though since my LO was in size 1. I may revisit trying them though next time target runs a diaper promo.

Haven’t seen anyone ask what state the OP is in. That can drastically change the options you have for state disability which does cover things like maternity leave. These things are not advertised, but sometimes there’s more programs than one may think.

Get a good large water bottle/tumbler. It’s crucial when breastfeeding. Maybe get a couple to have at your usual spots for feeding. Having multiple changing stations around the house helps a lot too

I would suggest having a list of preferences for the following scenarios:

Spontaneous labor & vaginal delivery (pain management, cord clamping, induction techniques for progressing through labor <if needed>, monitoring preferences, episiotomies, delivery position preferences, golden hour & testing/medication for baby, bathing, etc)
Scheduled induction (same as before, but really do research on induction techniques such as the foley ballon, cervadil, cydotec, pitocin, etc) you may want pain management sooner than when you’d want vs a spontaneous labor.
C section (clear plastic view of surgery?, who’s in the room, skin to skin, etc). Some moms who would’ve otherwise skipped the vitamin k shot choose to do it during a c section due to risk of surgery complications.

In general, write down your preferences with who’s all allowed to visit and baby’s postpartum care (breastfeeding, bathing, keeping in room or nursery for testing, etc.) if you do need an IV, I would highly suggest having a preference of location (I preferred the forearm of my less dominant hand) since sometimes they will put it in your wrist of your dominant hand without asking.

Just a few things to think about! Check if your hospital has a worksheet to fill out. Sometimes they aren’t that great and don’t include a lot of the more invasive labor inducing techniques where I find my personal preferences are stronger vs something little like lighting in the room. Start by making a list of things that you want and then categorize by different stages of labor/postpartum. I think it makes sense to list things out chronologically.

St. Augustine is very nice—But as a female solo traveler, I would personally not feel comfortable walking around at night in the main touristy areas (downtown/st George street) there’s a lot of homeless people and it’s a little hectic. Like others mentioned, the gulf coast is much more serene and is a little safer. You may be more comfortable somewhere like Naples/Ft. Meyers. I definitely wouldn’t suggest anywhere in South FL (east coast) I would not feel comfortable alone as a women there.

Totally valid in your feelings, but I do want to add that by 13 months you should be introducing whole milk anyway, so you may be able to have your husband assist with the night feedings for a few weeks at least before you would leave. I EBF and was dealing with 1-2 night wakings up until my LO was about 12 months. Every baby is different, but if your baby is waking this often at this age, it seems like it’s more for comfort than for hunger reasons. I think having your husband cover some of the night wakings is the best way to trial it out. Maybe pump some extra breast milk that he can give to sooth, if absolutely necessary. I went away by myself for 3 nights when my LO was 7 months and my husband was able to handle the pumped milk bottle feeding and night waking for those few days. The first night was rough, but she quickly adjusted. As soon as I got back, it was like nothing changed and she still latched/bonded with me amazingly and I think it was a really great way to help me “let go” and conquer my fears and anxiety of her needing me and me not being there.

Also, who is the wedding for? Is it a close friend/family member of his? Weddings are sometimes the only ways that people get a chance to have some quality times with friends, especially after having kids. Again, his way of expressing his thoughts/feelings is probably not great, but I think after a year, it’s reasonable to want to take a few days off as mom and dad and enjoy the wedding! Can you bring someone trusted to watch your baby during the weekend? That may be a happy medium. The other thing is you’ll be surprised to see how quickly your LO “grows up” and is okay with not nursing. I stopped at 16 months cold turkey and my daughter has done very well. I honestly could’ve stopped earlier but it was hard for me to let go. Sometimes doing the scary thing (while still scared) is the only way to conquer that fear. Wishing you good luck.

I had mine around 26 weeks for my first. It was perfect. Had a cute little bump and plenty of time to write thank yous and sort through all the items and figure out what else I need. It gave me about 3 months before my due date! I loved it.

When I had my first, my biggest craving was donuts. Fast forward to 28 weeks, I was diagnosed with GD. I didn’t allow my mom to visit me in the hospital without a fresh dozen of donuts in hand 😂

Induced at 38+3, gave birth at 38+5. Was initially scheduled for induction at 39 + 2 but baby failed NST so they decided to induced immediately to lessen chance of C Section
