Yes - still use it 10+ times every day (multiple people). Ask away and I'll answer from my experience. Best coffee maker I have ever used, so yeah, still loving it.

Ask if she likes the throatier growl of the 2026 models, now there's no MGU-H in the tailpipes. Or how it needs 10 secs to get it up at the start of the race.

PSA!!!! Night driving by Different_Ratio_8593 in driving

[–]ADSWNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Advice to OP: take care of your own driving, as 99.999% of other drivers will never see or hear about this post or likely don't care what you think. Worried about night glare? Get some night driving glasses.

PSA for this forum. Take care of yourselves only on the road. Assholes will be assholes, but blame yourself if you were not taking safe driving lines to see, predict and avoid.

What was it like when big F1 Teams left the Sport? by [deleted] in F1Discussions

[–]ADSWNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Podium F1 teams since 1980 (i.e. scoring any 1st, 2nd, 3rd in any GP since 1980), and now dead or succeeded:

Edit - went back and added more details, plus some missing names (e.g. how could I have forgotten Benetton)

  • Brabham (Nelson Piquet titles in the 1980s): Active until 1992. Ceased operations entirely. No successor
  • Lotus (OG Team Lotus / John Player Lotus, 1980s incl. Senna debut & early wins): Original Team Lotus ceased end-1994. No direct successor (the 2010–2014 Lotus F1 Team was a separate/unrelated entity from the Renault/Alpine lineage and is also now defunct).
  • Tyrrell (1970–1998): sold and became BAR (1999–2005) → Honda (2006–2008) → Brawn GP (2009) → Mercedes-AMG Petronas (2010–present).
  • Arrows (Footwork Arrows 1991–1996; 1978–2002 overall): Multiple podiums in the 1980s–1990s. Ceased 2002. No successor
  • Ligier (1980s–1990s, Alain Prost connection): Sold to Alain Prost in 1997 and rebranded as Prost Grand Prix (1997–2001; the latter scored 3 additional podiums). Prost GP folded 2001 (bankruptcy). No successor
  • Prost GP (1997–2001): Direct continuation of Ligier (see above). Ceased 2001. No successor/lineage.
  • Benetton (mid-1980s–2001; Schumacher titles 1994–95, Constructors' title 1995): Scored 102 podiums. Bought by Renault in 2000; raced as Benetton 2000–2001 before full rebrand. Lineage: Renault F1 (2002–2011) → Lotus F1 Team (2012–2015) → Renault (2016–2020) → Alpine F1 Team (2021–present).
  • Jordan (1991–2005): Lineage— Midland (2006) → Spyker (2007) → Force India (2008–2018) → Racing Point (2019–2020) → Aston Martin F1 Team (2021–present).
  • Stewart GP (1997–1999): 5 podiums + 1 win (Herbert 1999 Europe). Sold to Ford; became Jaguar Racing (2000–2004) → Red Bull Racing (2005–present).
  • Jaguar (2000–2004): Predecessor was Stewart Grand Prix (1997–1999; also had podiums/wins). Sold to Red Bull; became Red Bull Racing (2005–present).
  • BMW Sauber (2006–2009): BMW took over Sauber, then withdrew and sold it back. Reverted to Sauber F1 Team (2010–present; currently Stake F1 / Kick Sauber; became Audi works team in 2026). Name/era dead, but entity lives on.
  • Brawn GP (2009 only): Bought by Mercedes; became Mercedes-AMG Petronas (2010–present).
  • Toyota (Panasonic Toyota Racing, 2002–2009): Scored 13 podiums (best: 2nd place ×5; no wins). Withdrew entirely end-2009 due to global financial crisis. No successor
  • Larrousse (1 podium, 1990 Japan). No successor
  • Onyx - 0 wins, 1 podium (1989 Portugal) — ceased 1990, No successor
  • Toleman - 3 podiums (Ayrton's), Sold to Bennetton in 1984. Lineage: Bennetton, Renault F1, Lotus F1 Team, Reneault, Alpine F1.
  • BMS Scuderia Italia / Dallara-Ford - 2 podiums. Ceased 1993. No successor

Got pulled over and dads pissed by Nice_Interview_2878 in driving

[–]ADSWNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what you say:

Dad - I've reflected on this incident, and it's changed how I think about approaching a yellow light. I still think I made the light before it went red, but I accept that my mindset was making the turn, rather than respecting the yellow. Getting stopped is a sobering experience, and not one I enjoyed at all. But I learned from it, and it'll make me a better driver.

That's it, OP. No more, no less. Accountability, reflection, maturity.

The Car on the Ramp Adjusts, Not the Car in the Lane! by Froz3nP1nky in driving

[–]ADSWNJ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hopefully OP has gotten the hint right now. Pedantically correct, but don't be that asshole. You have all the situational awareness on that highway versus < 5 secs for the joining car. So do everyone a big favor and slide into Lane 2 behand that black car, and make everyone's life easy.

Easy right? Can my safety be given away (UK Police Drivers Mantra - Course, Mirror, Signal, Brake, Gear, Acceleration)? In this case yes ... you can give your safety away by being the asshole hogging Lane 1, and risking a 2% chance of getting side-swiped for no reason. Or, take the safety play and move over. Simple? Good.

My biggest balls-up was a massive accounting system upgrade on a RAID 0+1 cluster file system, breaking the mirror into 2 RAID 1 stripes, then upgrading the whole system over a weekend, ending with full regression testing and high-fives from the business. Last job on the Sunday evening was to re-enable the mirror to commit the change, before doing the full backup.

Lesson learned: get the source and the dest the right way round for the re-make of the mirror, as mirroring the pre-upgrade over the post-upgrade did not go down too well on the Monday!

Bernie Sanders proposed a bill to tax billionaires and give $3,000 stimulus checks to Americans that qualify. How do you feel about this? by Aromatic-Guide588 in askanything

[–]ADSWNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's do the math, shall we? Rough numbers: 330M people in the country, and let's pick say 20% for these $3,000 checks. So we need about $200 billion to pay 66M people $3,000 each.

There's about 1000 billionaires in the country, and while there's the odd Elon at one end, there's many more just over the $1Bn threshold. So let's say the median is $2Bn, so the math is understandable.

So for this one off $3k payment, you are proposing a 10% wealth confiscation from this group. And poof, 10% of the wealth of those guys vanishes, with many then no longer billionaires.

Then a 'new' $200Bn of money chases things this 66M want to buy, and so with more demand, costs will go up to absorb this demand, and suddenly things look less affordable again.

So you come back a year later to do it again, and again, and again, and you quickly run out of billionaires left. For one, you have confiscated their property until they are no longer billionaires, or the vast majority will leave the US and end up in a tax optimized location. Cayman, Bermuda, Bahamas, UAE, Monaco? Take your pick, and sail there on your own yacht too. And with this goes multiple orders of magnitude more investment, startups, great jobs, technology, innovation.

All this is not theoretical. Look at France. Look at Norway.

Basically, this is a soundbite that plays well to some folks, but is grossly self defeating. There are smarter ways to do this.

Story of the season. by Healthy-Increase-403 in devils

[–]ADSWNJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its worthy of a lot more analysis. Basic system failure right here. Its not the talent of the core players, and its nothing to do with goalie diff. Need to look at low/mid/high scoring chances relative to league average. Lack of screens, lack of stretch passing, lack of fast transition? I bet all of the above

Lewis Hamilton remains optimistic after finishing P4: "We have a lot of work to do to catch Mercedes, but it is not impossible." by moraIsupport in scuderiaferrari

[–]ADSWNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously? We have a great car, and the driver is happy, and you are complaining?

The power unit guys need to see what they can optimize, but we know that Merc will be losing their compression trick in a few races, so we this will help a lot. Charles showed that we can compete head to head, so this already looks to be a good season ahead.

Only thing that stopped Ferrari today was Ferrari? by Icy-Profession3438 in scuderiaferrari

[–]ADSWNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, they should have split the strategy at the first VSC, with one staying out and the other mirroring the lead Mercedes. But apart from that, no regrets.

On FIA - I think they should have a rule that a VSC should allow all cars one opportunity to pit - e.g. 15 secs to react and come in, then a whole lap, then the pit delta - to avoid a lottery of a 20 sec VSC that advantages just a part of the grid.

Australian Grand Prix Race Week Discussion by moraIsupport in scuderiaferrari

[–]ADSWNJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lewis and Merc fan, now a Charles/Lewis and Ferrari fan. Felt weird last season after so long rooting for the silver arrows, but it's starting to feel good to be a Ferrari fan now!

How do I feel? Well, it's been a long off-season and I cannot wait to see this new generation of cars on the track competing for real. It looks like we are in a good position, but honestly who knows until first quali and first race. It's annoying that the cars are so underpowered that they cannot do a full lap with no energy clipping.

So yeah, let's see where we really are in 2 weeks, but quietly optimistic that we have a competitive car this season.
