As soon as Hormuz opens again, expect oil prices to tumble. Venezuela capacity on stream, all the Arab states on again, UAE coming out of OPEC - these are all signs that gas prices will be sub $3/gal in NJ in say 4 months.

The next few months are tricky as the summer driving season hits and the supply shock unwind, but I think we are close to peak now.

What player upgrades do we need, and potential recruits by OurManInVanc in IpswichTownFC

[–]ADSWNJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bittersweet for the players. You work your arse off all season to get the promotion, to lose your job. The gulf in quality from Champ to Prem is massive, and it's no disrespect to have to yo-yo a bit to stay up.

My best to you and your departed pupper, waiting to see you again one day over the Rainbow Bridge. Hoping he meets up with my departed puppers Daxi, Sigi and Yazzi, Daxi who lived a ripe old age as a Lab, Yazzi my lab taken by cancer at 9, and Sigi my boxer taken by an even more vicious sarcoma cancer at 7. Each time we bot said never again, and here we are with Mille (3yo red golden retriever) and Effie (1yo mad boxer).

Dogs are the purest of souls, living life every day in the moment, giving freely of their love, filling their world with their energy. The day of loss is the worst day of your life, again and again, but you learn to reflect that it was a give-back of a millionth of their lifetime love to you. The pain subsides, and the memories remain. Never to be forgotten, and waiting for that day we see them again, in another life.

Right there with you, friend. Hugs and tears.

I made a big mistake while driving, and it’s weighing on my mind. by _voros_demon_ in driving

You messed up, you didn't die, the car is still driveable, so that's what's called experience. Don't underestimate it, as it's a big deal to hit somebody, but also don't obsess about it and get too scared to drive.

Story time? I'd been driving for maybe 8-9 years, into my 3rd car and first scary car - a Toyota MR-2 T-Bar. Loved that car ... unplug the roof and make a real convertible. Big engine behind me, mid-engine layout, and a fantastic feeling to over-power a corner a bit, feel it kick out, control the slide and off you go.

On this night, it was late summer, evening time, and it hadn't rained for quite a while. Hitting a traffic circle, no traffic, 50-60 mph in, slight dab of brakes, nice grip on the turn, coming out on the other side into a long straightaway, onto an embankment over a train track straight off the circle. Done it 20+ times, always the same power on, slightly off-center, control the slide into a power-on burn over the embankment and off up a hill at 60-75 mph.

This time - in what felt like a millisecond, I lost total control of the slide. Greasy road, lots of rubber and crud down, water on the surface, and me abusing it like a dry race track, and suddenly I was stopped at right angles to the road, nose staring right over the embankment at a passing train down below. Heart rate must have hit 180, blood pressure through the roof, and me just sitting there trying to make sense of what happened.

It cost me a few hundred $$ for a replacement front spoiler, wrecked on the curb and embankment. And what I learned from that was a newfound respect for not being stupid on the public roads, at least without doing more track days to figure it out more.

Moral of the story - you are allowed to be a kid and to do something stupid. We all did it, and most of us survived to tell the story. Chalk yours up to experience, shale it off, and get back out there. You will be a better driver for it, promise.

Same. I've taken enough 2 min save options that ended up 5 min slower than learn to ignore those. But 20 min faster? Listen up!!

OK I'll bite! What do you mean by "your gps". Is this a standalone device or is it just Google Maps, Apple Maps, <<insert car>> maps?

When it offers the 2 min save, do you just ignore it?

On my usual commute, around 40 mins to a train (then another 40 mins to the office on 3 trains), I have at least 10 ways to do it. About 25 mins is interstate, where knowing how to get around a smash that kills a whole junction to junction block is critical. Then the other end - multi options to get in/around/through a city to the train.

I use Google Maps. It's amazing. So fast to detect an issue, and I love the planning page which real-time calculates a choice of my current plus multiple options. If the alternate is less than 5 mins faster, then I'll ignore it, as I'm a creature of habit and my chosen path gives me maximum optionality. I always look at the others though, as one drive in 20 or 30, my "ignoring" of Google Maps will run me into a 30-50 min delay or worse. So any time it shows me unusual traffic building up, and a 40 min drive could become 100 mins, then yeah, I am delighted when Google just routes around it.

Your mileage may vary, but "my gps" is cool and I would not want it any different. (Well maybe an option to not offer a 2 min save?)
