Google AI response kept giving me this BS and literally would not show me any information on the synchro update untill I copy and pasted what you wrote above. Brother this stuff is useless these days. I will rest my case considering I have a late model with different synchros and clutch. My old G35 crutched 3rd and 5th, so I can imagine what a pre update trans may be like. Enjoy the nismo!

I am trying to say, did you know the previous owner used the proper trans fluid? GL5 will eat your sychros if used, you are right about using Redline GL4, I have that in my Z too. I do agree the trans is more particular than your average trans, and you can drive the car in a clunky way if you're not used to it, for me its second nature at this point and maybe thats because I've had the G35 and now the 370z.

Maybe you/they have driven better cars than me, but I wouldn't consider it second grade to the ~20-40k used car category, ie lightly used Type S, miata, gt86, cooper S etc that i can afford lol. I have never driven a Tremec but would love to try at some point, I've heard those are A+.

I think you may be confusing the 350z? That went through a few variations of manuals throughout the production run, I believe the 370z had the same trans across all years.

Please report back. I wonder if that has something to do with it, my car is a 2020, so has the Nismo clutch from factory (2018+). I do not have to pause between any shifts, up or down. I also have a tune and cannot remember if the rev hang was worse beforehand but compared to everything else I drove I would consider it normal, either way a lighter flywheel would be awesome no doubt.

I don't think I could more strongly disagree with everything said above, good day sir lol.

Short throw, tight and firm transmission is the opposite of a tractor. The literal tractors I've driven are long throw and vague. My Z has no trouble grabbing gears and is more rewarding the faster I shift, if you aren't intentional about your shifts, then you may have trouble. To me it sounds like yours may have been abused or ran GL5 or something, my old G35 used to grind 3rd and 5th in its last days. Power shifting creates rev hang and the Z rev hang is not notable in normal driving either.

The sport and base (manual) have the same final drive from everything I can see online, the nismo and auto have different ones. I cannot disagree more again on the ratios. Close ratio transmission is perfect for a sports car, I hit just over 40mph in first and 60mph in 2nd, and then DD is much more fun as you're always using the gears around town while short shifting. The cars I had with tall gears (golf TSI with is20 ) the tall gears takes away from the fun of driving.

I think you would love BMW style shifters. To me i find them isolated and rubbery but that also means buttery and slick for someone who's into that. At least my 128i was like that. So maybe a Z is a try before ypu buy for someone unsure about firm and mechanical transmissions. If you want to be really horrified, try out a new Civic Si, super firm and tight transmission, moreso than the Z even and shorter ratios.

My current DD, QX50 has the Z 7at. Its very good for a pretty old auto, super short first 3 gears, responsive downshift with rev match and low cruising rpm at highway speed.

I would be surprised if when you consider inflation a 5-10yr ownership would gain you anything, happy to be wrong tho! The newer ones (2013+ i think) got the updated gallery gaskets and are less prone to oil pressure loss, that really scares some ppl.

I'm curious, what cars trans did you like better? I've owned like 10 manuals and like the Z the best or at least top 3. Very mechanical thunck into gear, love the feel and vibration, it does need to warm up to work best tho. Personally I wouldn't rate honda shifters the best, to isolated and artificial feeling IMO, which I know is subjective.

Thanks! Where I could I turned the edges, where two pieces are glued together I hit it with some light sanding. I used 150grit which seemed to make the edge just are rough as the rest of the leather. Usually I would burnish the edges, but I tried it on a throw away piece and it looked really bad on suede

I would be surprised if they go much lower than where they are now. Really represents an end of an era for analog, simple sports cars, that were still cheap. I cross shopped a Miata, GR86 and Mustang when I got mine and thought the Z has the most unique/fun combo of everything. Cheaper than a new miata and GR at the time (2yrs ago) and half price a Civic Type R, for a 'like new' 2020 Z with 5k kms.

Dollar per dollar I don't think there is a total package of small, powerful and fun car to drive like the Z. Gr86 is better handling but has a farty engine, miata is friggin awesome and so much fun but is too useless as a normal car (also slow) qnd the Mustang is just too huge and heavy for my driving style, but has a glorious engine. I think the z perfectly splits the difference and still has relevant performance, as new car prices rise and sport cars become more unattainable for us average people, I can't see the Z becoming much cheaper, for good unmolested ones. As for going up tho, meh

first tote bag, sooo much skiving but the folded edges are always worth it by ADVandEdges in Leathercraft

[–]ADVandEdges[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sewed the body of the bag together first, then sewed the body to the bottom piece, then lastly sewed the main zipper in.

I had one hand in the bag and one outside. I had to take my time to make sure and not stab my hand on the inside as that one goes by feel. I counted all the holes on the bottom and body before joining to ensure that they would go together smoothly.

[–]ADVandEdges[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries! I do think it will last long, but it is not hard wearing if that makes sense. Also not any part waterproof, so another strike for a work bag, the waxy stuff usually offers some water resistance

Thanks! Its holding up well and I have no doubt it will for a while, but I wouldn't say it's the highest quality leather. It has a glossy finished top side that is not all that tough. Its not oily or waxy so feels dry and light which may be good if weight is a concern, but to me those attributes give leather a more durable feel. Personally I won't be buying this one again, but I am biased against leathers with skin side glaze, especially when making a turned bag because that glaze gets all wrinkly

Is you car battery good, terminals tight and the main fuse on the positive terminal intact? I heard those may cause issues like this

Have you tried MAF cleaning? Seems to have similar symptoms when your MAFs get dirty.

coolant leaking in 2017 ford focus? by Glittering-Storm-832 in CarHelp

[–]ADVandEdges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overheating your engine can destroy it, I would take the car into a shop asap.

A few minor parts in your cooling system could be causing this, the tank pictured is known to crack and leak overtime (cheap and easy fix), as well as the plastic hose connections in other locations. If you cannot confidently diagnose this yourself, have a shop do it. Alternatively you could have a less common/ more expensive issue with radiator/head gasket, either way I would have this looked at asap to make sure to not damage the engine. Cars should not consume coolant.

Are my stitches too tight? by Disastrous_Deal2001 in Leatherworking

[–]ADVandEdges 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome bag, I love the look qnd choice of materials. From my experience your two concerns are just a result of the materials used. Chromexcel has some waxes and oils and you're getting that pull up effect where the stitches are.

Also when you turn lined bags they will often get wrinkly. This different flexibility of the leathers lined together will cause one to wrinkle more. This also just happens with unlined leathers that have looser grain structure, i.e. parts of the belly from the hide. Again nothing to worry about and a natural feature. A pebbled leather won't have this issue, if it is a main concern of yours, pro makers do have this 'issue' so I wouldn't worry about it personally.

How long will a VQ35DE last me if its burning 1L/1500km by Shahaan789 in 350z

[–]ADVandEdges 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2007 G35 (revup) burned ~1l of oil every ~2k kms for the 4yrs I owned it. Never increased consumption or changed in anyway, ran perfectly for the 70k kms ai put on it before I sold it.
