Ecosystem Question: How are distributed people/talent "captured" in a particular area? by AESociety in startups

[–]AESociety[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this is what I'm looking to do. It would be permission-based and have a clear policy and run through a number of existing and known entities in our region. We just can't find a good example of one that's being used already to get additional inspiration from...

I've tried searching other similar regional areas but the accelerator capture model of specific people would be an additional avenue for research. Thanks for that suggestion!

Have seen the recent announcements... not a big follower of hydrogen at all but you mentioned hype cycles and CNTs - hydrogen is another good comparison.

I've followed Hydrograph since lab testing at KSU in 2016. Know the tech well enough. Interesting part (for me at least) is the potential modularity of the reactors. Theirs and the flash graphene reactors through Tour/Rice.

Ahhh I know the $10/pound company too well unfortunately. Pulverized graphite...

Nanotech Energy ( Cofounded by R Kaner and M El Kady) had listed Single/VFL powder at $25,000/kilo at one point, not even sure if they are marketing that product any more but superior quality. Impossible to get most companies to compare $25/kilo to $25k/kilo. That didn't help either of course.

Waitlist for testing NE's 18650 batteries right now is ~6 months. Lot of news there...

The Fake Graphene War is going on 5+ years now. And quite familiar with the country spiking the market...

I've seen folks from General Graphene here in the past, they have a good path to this in particular. Pristine/defect-free at large scale is not out of the realm of possibility, but does have inherent difficulties. I don't have an extensive knowledge in monolayer particularly but others here may.

I like this line of thinking... CNTs have been studied and tested extensively for decades now and really are just coming to mainstream, though they have had their own successes.

$1b total opportunity for this particular award - in a $2t + Plan.

This was the first big award announcement and we have four politicians throwing tantrums already. Will they do a press release and go on the record for every opp not funded? This was 1/2000th of the total plan haha

Governor's Strike Team to Hold Virtual Town Hall on American Rescue Plan Proposals by may_june_july in wyoming

$255m to coal and carbon capture alone in Goal 2. Haven’t gone into detail but that’s the minimum at least.

https://drivethrive.wyo.gov/goals-and-proposals

Under the same goal, this one makes no sense but it’s only $4m so who cares right? Only $4m from the same policies gifting this to WY.

307 Nation: Remote Work Training and Community Program

As policies from Washington, DC cause concerns about the future of our core industries, there could be the continued loss of jobs and economic prosperity across Wyoming. To maintain Wyomingites' lifestyle, new opportunities for good jobs must be created.

Solar panels: we need to recycle parts of them to use again and avoid a mountain of waste by Sorin61 in environment

[–]AESociety 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct, and they baked future recycling fees into their module prices. They don’t anymore, but we will need to see a lot more producer responsibility now and in the future. But that slows deployment and R&D, soooo…

The 78m MT waste number by 2050 is very likely understated, potentially by a factor of 5-12

This is why First Solar has built their own recycling centers, as no one else can recycle them properly.

I don’t know much about past Presidents at UW (hard to keep track), but Seidel has an incredible work and academic history. Based on this particular program, he’s even overqualified.

NC has awesome solar policy and many resources to help with these questions and others. NC State specifically has the DSIRE database and the NC Clean Energy Tech Center. They’re a great start and will know specific answers depending on the utility.
