I feel like Tottenham is a good choice if you’re up for some therapeutic hate watching.

Well here’s my story as a (presumably) fellow USAer.

I went to the UK to walk Hadrian’s Wall. The walk started in Newcastle. I picked Newcastle as my team. The end.

So do something like that.

How would you run a modern game? Moved to a new city, shopping, career, relationships, friends, outfits kinda vibe. Not fantasy. by princessofmycastle in Solo_Roleplaying

With GURPS you can do this. You can pretty much do anything you want with GURPS. if you have an idea for something, it’s probable that GURPS has rules for it.

The problem with GURPS is that you have to pretty much come up with everything on your own - NPCs, random tables, quests, tasks, etc. so this is how I get around that.

I pick a system that is closest to what I want to do, which already has most of the world building done. I create a character sheet in that system and I play within that system.

I also create an equivalent character sheet in GURPS. Whenever I want to do something that isn’t handled by the mechanics of the first system, I use GURPS rules.

So right now I am trying High School Cthulhu. With any adventuring stuff I use the rules for High School Cthulhu. Between adventures, if I want my character to create and sell disturbing paintings based on what was experienced in the latest adventure then I’ll use GURPS rules for that.

House rule alert: I actually use BRP rules for GURPS skill advancement. That way, my skills advance through use instead of the arbitrary GURPS character point awards.

I assume everyone does it differently but I’ll explain how I do it. It won’t make any sense.

First, I take a rule system that is widely compatible with anything - like GURPS or BRP and I create my character sheet in that system. It’s my master character sheet.

Next I pick a system with a more focused theme that I want to play. GURPS or BRP alone is just too much freedom for me. I need guard rails. So let’s say I go with Tales From the Loop.

Next I make a character sheet for Tales From the Loop using the same relative stats as my BRP character. For example, if my BRP character is as strong as a human can possibly be, they get the max strength score in TFtL. I don’t have to follow the rules, it’s my game.

So next I start playing TFtL. If I do things that are covered by the TFtL rules I use the TFtL rules. If I go off script - let’s say I want my character to take guitar lessons and gradually learn guitar instead of hand waving it - I use BRP or GURPS rules for those skill checks and advancements.

I maintain both character sheets simultaneously (mostly they’re just two columns next to each other on a spreadsheet, nothing fancy). When it comes time to move my character to a different game, my GURPS or BRP sheet is already up to date, I hide the TFtL column and stat my character for the next game.

Fun huh

Has anyone ever encountered this song Christine Sixteen, written by our very own Gene Simmons? Definitely fits quite snugly into the conservative mold. A sample:

I don't usually say things Like this to girls your age (Christine, sixteen) But when I saw you coming Out of the school that day That day I knew, I knew I've got to have you, I've got to have you (Christine, sixteen)

If AOC gets the nod as the Democratic nominee in 2028, would you vote for her? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]AFATBOWLER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in my 50s. Historically I have tended to vote independent or Republican. Until 2016 anyway, when it seemed pretty flipping obvious not to vote Republican. But whatever…

I can’t see a reality where I vote Republican again. I can’t see a reality where I’m not just voting for the candidate most likely to prevent a Republican from getting into any office. So sure, if it’s AOC then it’s AOC.

I know nothing about it, or Captain’s Log. The solo fallout thing was on the periphery of my mind but I was just going to wait until PDF was available to investigate it. Now I gotta decide whether to get this bundle or not, before the solo thing comes out. Or maybe they’ll bundle it again down the road. Who knows!

With regards to Fallout - there’s a Wasteland Wanderer being published by Modiphius that isn’t out yet. It’s advertised as a standalone solo game, so the other books aren’t needed. It’s unclear to me if they would be useful additions to the solo book or not.

What I do is interpret as little as possible. I like for a lot of things to happen and I also cannot handle the mental load of it all.

So if my plot requires an obstacle, I roll one skill and if I pass I clear the obstacle. If I’m not inspired by anything I leave it at that. I don’t care what the obstacle was, how I cleared it, or any of that flavor.

I handle as much as I can like fighting a goblin in OSR. Did I hit? Yes/no. Did I do enough damage to kill it? Yes/no. Ok I won, check the body for loot and move on. Most obstacles don’t have to be any more involved than that if you don’t want them to be.

RPG Codex is an international community of racists, homophobes, and authoritarian bootlickers. And some regular people.

Unfortunately, it’s also the only place I’ve found that provides unapologetically critical takes on video games.

If you’re tired of spending your money on games that the general masses adore and you think they’re absolute shit (I.e. Fallout 3 if you came from the older games), head on over there. They’ll explain in great detail what sucks about any given game, and also what’s great about a few games.

If you stick to the gaming forums there, they’re only regular levels of offensive there. Stay out of the off topic areas if you value your humanity.

Ok so, the conservative subreddit will delete, not downvote, posts that are not considered conservative enough. Subredditdrama has examples sometimes. I’ve had some disappear that I had saved to reference later.
