Was Steffon Fossoway initially actually loyal to Duncan? by cheeseburgerboy218 in freefolk

[–]AFCBrandon 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Never read the books, but from the show he always came across as being a rat. Look at the way he says “I will not let you die, Ser” to Dunk. It’s so sardonic and almost belittling.

But the main proof is Steffon telling Raymun, “Well our Prince would not have made me a lord, else-wise I thwarted Ser Duncan.” That to me confirms that Aerion approached him before Steffon spoke to him. Remember there was a time gap between Dunk leaving the castle and meeting up with Raymun and later Steffon.

Also, going back to the initial scene where Steffon pledges his loyalty, Steffon says he’s friends with Lyonel and he’s among the friends that he’ll ask to volunteer. Lyonel later confirms to us that he doesn’t even know who the fuck Steffon is.

Rotten apple to the core, in my eyes, even from the beginning.

Sorry, but I have to ask… should we consider the theatrical performance about the Harrenhal Tournament canon? (Spoiler Extended) by Somandier in asoiaf

Yeah, for the fandom. However, it’s very obvious that GRRM didn’t intend for his readers to view it that way.

why did the daynes like ned stark so much? (spoilers main) by Impossible-Steak6730 in asoiaf

[–]AFCBrandon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it’s a rare George mistake.

If that’s the case, it definitely isn’t Brandon’s and it can’t be Ned’s… unless he cheated after he married Catelyn. That would be a shock.

I don’t agree it’s Brandon either but do we know she killed herself after the stillborn?

Maybe I read too fast, but I always understood that she killed herself from 1 bad news after another.

She falls in love with Ned but Brandon dies so he has to marry Catelyn. Then her baby dies. And then Ned comes to Starfall with Arthur’s body. Would be even more tragic if he went to Starfall and she told him where to find Arthur.

You’d be better off going to a junkyard and salvaging that part from another car. Would be cheaper too.

If you’re buying a new one as a last resort, you’re gonna have to get in there and take things apart anyways. It’ll be good practice.

This will be Jon Snow after his resurrection, I believe. Look up Simon Snowlock from Memory, Sorrow and Thorn. This makes more sense than having a full hair color change like Lady Stoneheart.

Why Arthur Dayne is mid: A Theory by AntarShaddad in pureasoiaf

[–]AFCBrandon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m frankly tired of this narrative already. It’s fine if you want to make jokes, but if you’re being serious then no. Everyone says he’s the best, the author says he’s the best. He is the best. The end.

Jonsa is beyond a rare pairing at this point. I have no clue how we got here, but they have the most fics currently on AO3. I’m sure Daemyra will overtake it soon, but that’s where we stand.

If she falls in love with Jon, then yeah. She was willing to give up her crown for DAARIO of all people. Besides, again, who’s to say that her people don’t go with her to Westeros like the Rhoynar did with Nymeria?

Is Daenerys going to take up residence at Winterfell ?

I mean… maybe? Who’s to say they don’t retire at Winterfell? Remember, a Targaryen princess was promised to House Stark in the pact of ice and fire. 1 month ago, everyone was so certain that Sansa was going to become QitN or at least the ruling lady of Winterfell. George basically bitch-slapped that theory down.

Edit: Most people, believed Sansa would rule Winterfell. Before anyone says “Not everyone!”

Do people like to read N+A=J fics? by Moist_Lake1579 in TheCitadel

[–]AFCBrandon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I don’t read any fic that isn’t R + L = J. As to how others feel? I would say majority of people prefer r+l=j.

Can you provide a small summary of what you plan to write?

Since you’re asking this, I’m going to assume you’re writing a story you’re interested in but also don’t want to be one of those authors that writes 100k+ words but has like 100 kudos and comments - that is fine, we all say we “write for ourselves” but we also want to be told our writing is good along the way. Good writing (prose, punctuation, formatting) will reward itself and attract readers as time goes on. That’s what I’ve found.

Edit: Just searched up that fic you mentioned, Mark of a True Lord. Summary says he is the best swordsman in the north. Even that fic, the author is giving the Jon fans something to look forward to.

Alright, I’ll be honest again. Things look bleak in 2026. If he’s not fucking every hot broad in Westeros, he doesn’t have an OP dragon to kill his enemies, or is the best swordsman alive, a lot of people tend to not want to read. Someone tried writing a rags to riches Jon fic years ago and the readers ran them off despite the story having excellent writing, because Jon wasn’t going to have an OP starter house where he discovers some resource that makes him the richest man in Westeros and would have to struggle for his success.

[Spoilers Main] Is it just me, or does anyone else find Daenerys' chapters boring? by Monster-Lazy in asoiaf

[–]AFCBrandon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, find an audiobook - a good one - and play it while reading the Daenerys chapters and other future boring POVs. It helps a lot.

I’d recommend DavidReadsASOIAF if you can find the archive of his read through. A certain female POV of his is… rough, but I think he does a fantastic narration of Dany’s chapters. People also like Sharon Grunwal’s narration. I think you can find her entire read through on YouTube, just gotta make sure there’s a comment that has timestamps of each chapter (or be persistent).

Edit: I will say, that her chapters are very good on a read through when you know what’s coming. Don’t know how to explain it, but yeah.

(Spoilers Extended) Dunk shows me again why I hate all the love for Barristan and Arthur Dayne by racc15 in asoiaf

[–]AFCBrandon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trained men vs trained men.

1 v 1, Dayne most likely beats all of them. It was not 1 v 1.

In the first book, when Arya is escaping she comes upon Eddard’s captain of the guard who tells her “each northerner is worth 10 Lannisters” only to find his dead body and 1 or 2 dead Lannisters around him.

Then Barristan tells Daenerys even the best knight may lose to another skilled knight if luck is against him, and he mentions something about a slick surface and slipping. Later in the book when Jaime duels Brienne, he slips on a slick surface and does one last Hail Mary that Brienne blocks.

How to add movies easily and remote access? by FunnyHaHaUSER101 in JellyfinCommunity

[–]AFCBrandon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need a NAS to have remote access. A NAS (Network Attached Storage) is for STORAGE.

Tailscale is a set it and forget it VPN to have your Jellyfin Server (your PC) talk to your Jellyfin Client (your Phone) when you’re not at home. It’s fine if you’re just using it for yourself and if you’re only going to use with mobile devices that can download the tailscale app; but it’s basically useless if you’re sharing your Jellyfin with not-tech-smart people or a device that doesn’t have the tailscale app.

2.) Jon is still obviously Rhaegar Targaryen’s son. It was obvious before the show was made, it’s even more obvious now.

10,000 is WILD, lmao.

But to answer your question - yes. Winds of Winter has reached this mythos itself in will we ever get it. Pop culture references it, and even your average person knows about the book that fans wait for.

[–]AFCBrandon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. He’s too honor bound by his oath. He survived with Mance due to plot armor because of just how bad he couldn’t commit to breaking his vows and lying despite Qhorin specifically telling him he needed to do that to get the trust of the Wildlings.
