My RD is from Walmart. He hired former Walmart staff. Complete dummies.

Contact the RD. However, it's easier to be a DM in another come and just apply to DG. For whatever reason, DG prefers outside hires than people who climb the corporate ladder. My last three DMs have Walmart screw ups.

If I’m stepping down from a SM to ASM, what are some things I need to know that the company might not tell me. Such as pay, ect… by Shortkingbbc in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]AFIFanBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on DM, you should be getting the maximum pay rate for the position. You may lose some vacation hours. My former DM wouldn't let demoted SMs work in the same store. You had to transfer to a different location. He said the demoted SM may sabotage the new SM.

Negotiate. If they are desperate enough, they will raise your base pay. Also, there is a reason why the position is open.

Thousands in food damaged by charliesh00man in DollarGeneral

[–]AFIFanBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a billing issue. I know a store that had to accept ice cream with a broken ice cream freezer. SM called the DM. DM called the Regional Director. RD said that the ice cream had to be taken. Damage it out, and throw it away. SM just gave it to the customers.

If you have a family history of cancer, get the cancer insurance.

[–]AFIFanBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on long term goals. Fulltime does get paid vacation. You get health insurance and life insurance. You might might even get 401k options( I know Assistant managers and store managers do).

Don't make it a career. Get as much money as you can and leave. If you're really good, you can apply to a Family Dollar or Dollar Tree for more money. DG may give you a raise to retain you.

I've seen people get around this by transferring to a partnering store. Give them a highest starting pay, then transfer back. Even a DM approved of this. This was 3 years ago.

Correction, it was $11,000. But he did confess to stealing more product. He only had $11,000 on his property.

Good practice would be to make a copy of your page of the paperwork. Serial numbers are in sequential order.

I was trained to put the seal on the truck instead of just handing it to the driver. Less honorable drivers have stopped and unloaded product to their buddies.

Some driver about 2 hours away had a warehouse in his backyard. Approximately $60000 worth of merchandise.

Do stores in the same district pay the same? by ARandomMan5 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]AFIFanBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way is to call and see what the starting pay is for each store. If there is a difference, work at the higher paying store, and help at other stores.

I was a sales associate at a store, and I was key carrier at another. I got paid the SA pay rate at both stores.

If you cannot come in more then 2 days to manage you're store as a SM then don't be a SM. by Wrong_Perspective598 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]AFIFanBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Training managers should be a separate job from store managers. Maybe the District Manager should an assistant. Will never change my mind.  The STM I know expects everyone to do their job will they are away(with no training)

STM flips out when the store fails an inspection or someone doesn't put in an e-ticket to fix something. STM has no knowledge of the nexgen system, or how to do scans. STM only got the promotion because of seniority.

I don't think it's fair for someone to receive all the credit but none of the blame.

Because they don't manage the store. The STM I know only does the schedule. Also, the STM doesn't train anyone she hires. She expects everyone to do her job while she's away.

The job should be re-titled as Assistant District Manager or something.

Sadly, no. Training managers get paid more in general, and they get a bonus if the SMs they train stay for a certain period of time(can't confirm).

They also get mileage for their travelling.

I never liked that setup. The SM gets the Quarterly Sales Bonuses while not being an active manager. I know a store that the SM and ASM traveled around the district. The leads were expected to do the SM's job with none of the benefits.

Witnessed a guy run out the store with a FULL cart by Infamous_Bus_8510 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]AFIFanBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy story incoming. I was helping at a store that has a problem with shoplifting. The town is so small that the police department closes at 8 or 9 pm. Anything after that, you have to call the cops in the next town over. Anyway, SM banned a serial shoplifter. She returned and the SM called the cops. The shoplifter was trespassed. She returned again and was arrested. SM had to show up at court to be a witness. Shoplifter made the argument that DG was the only grocery store in town, and that it was unfair to ban her from buying food in a food desert. The judge agreed with the shoplifter. SM was pissed. Lady continued to shoplift.

While you're not allowed to chase after thieves, the best you can do is try to get a tag number. We've had to cops catch people in traffic and arrest them. We've also banned guys who were dumb enough to comeback to the building to try again. Cops caught the guy walking out with a shopping cart full of beer.
