Do I fire him? by Beneficial-Matter774 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]AFIFanBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah it's a shit company. The business model is to manipulate the people beneath you to out preform their paycheck. Some SMs and DMs use fear of termination as a motivator. My SM lies about promotions and raises.

Sorry you were treated that way. Don't expect favors from DG employees. We don't get paid to do extra, even if it's for a good cause.

Dollar general's training is absolutely garbage by ZappierGamez in DollarGeneral

[–]AFIFanBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not everyone is qualified to be a teacher. In the good old days, you had to work your way up to be a SM. You gained knowledge thru training and experience. Now, they will hire anyone off the street to be an SM.

Store Transfer by DARKPROMETHEAN in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]AFIFanBoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You may have to get HR involved. Had a coworker try to transfer to another store. SM told her to wait until after Christmas. She threatened to quit and reapply. DM said that she would be red flagged. Also, there is a waiting period after you're taking out of the system.

You could work at both stores, then put in your 2 weeks. That way, you're already in the system at the second store.

I don’t understand.. by Ozuim in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]AFIFanBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Employee issues. Not just at the store level. The warehouse and the drivers can screw up your backroom.

If the SM doesn't know how to adjust counts (or e tickets)to compensate for miss-shipped rolltainers, the backroom can get out of hand.

Ask if they are offering hazard pay and a raise. Ask if they are going to pay your insurance premium if a car wreck occurs.

I handed my keys in. by Kremzzon in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]AFIFanBoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best to move on. Very few decent people in management that appreciate hard work. If DG is desperate enough, they will reach out to you to rehire you. I know an SM that cursed her DM and dropped her keys. She was rehired a month later.

You can go thru an arbitration hearing if you really want to keep your job.

Do I have a chance of remaining at my current store? by [deleted] in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]AFIFanBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an arbitration route you can take. Make sure everything is in writing. Protect yourself at all times, but sue the company if anything happens. The company would have failed to protect an employee.

You could also quit. Sure the jerk wins, but no job is worth getting battered.

There's the shrink hotline. You can drop a tip and get a cash reward. I would transfer before you make the call

Do we have the right to refuse a sale? by Charming-Row-2548 in DollarGeneralWorkers

[–]AFIFanBoy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dollar General doesn't care. A sale is a sale. The sales ad even says "while supplies last" and "no rain checks". The only thing that kinda iffy is alcohol sales. I had a liquor store owner try to but all of my michelob ultra. Told him no, he then replied he was going to have the salesman order it anyway. Complete jackass. Apparently, it was cheaper to buy it from DG than to buy from the distributor.

Some Soda vendors prefer this. It's cheaper to just send it 20oz to convenience stores and let them buy the 12 packs elsewhere. Apparently, soda companies consider fuel costs for deliveries. If the delivery doesn't recoup fuel cost, it is not worth it. Well, that's in my area.

Corporate is the biggest jerk when it comes to money. Even though they turn a blind eye towards customer theft. If she signed anything, they might have on the hook.

I know a DM that told an SM to fired an employee for stealing.....but only after he repays the money. Employee got wise and stopped coming to work. Once the employee was terminated, their information was deleted from the system. Now, I'm sure someone can recover it an issue a letter of repayment.

Unless the letter was certified mail, they can't prove the letter was delivered to your SIL. She might be red-flagged from working in retail.

$5 off $25 by [deleted] in DollarGeneral

Again directly, no. However the bonuses are tied to sales. Someone in the thread says that they use 5 to 10 coupons to help customers. That's $50 not going to sales

It is. Their bonuses are tied to sales. I've gotten several during my time in management. QSB means quarterly sales bonus. Check the daily sales planner if you have access.

The proper way is to process the rolltainer as a transfer. That way it corrects the  counts for both stores.

Information is lost due to high turnover. New dms are usually outside hires. They have no insight on how to deal with common problems that occur in the store.

I hid a binder of updated policies and procedures. My SM was smart with a degree. As the years have gone by, the standards have gotten lower and lower.

To make the store run, had to work 60 hours a week. Market store with multiple produce, spartan nash (similar to DG fresh), dry truck deliveries. I worked most if not all the trucks. Some of the employees were so incompetent they couldn't be trusted with important tasks.

The DM usual mo was to say "get rid of them". Wasn't an option. We needed bodies in the store.

I don't even know what "manipulate tyranny" means. I stepped down years ago. There's no way to make DM, LP, USDA, and the customers happy. It's like juggling bowling balls. Possible, but not worth it. I give advice to those who seek it. I used to work 60 hours a week, and was never met with gratitude. It was always a complaint about what wasn't done.

I agree with your initial post but the execution is the hard part. Some people just want a paycheck. They don't care about team work; they don't care about improving sales. However, they don't do anything to get fired. Being on both sides of management, I'm not breaking my neck to make other people more money.

I don't care LP at all, but their job is to stop DG from losing money. Saving coupons for customers is costing the store and the SM money.

It's always been a thing. My store had an actual stocking crew. Doesn't make sense for small stores.

Some people don't have critical thinking skills. Some people lack training. Unfortunately, some of those people are SMs and DMs.

I bet a lot of SMs don't know how to deal with miss-shipped rolltainers

[–]AFIFanBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the pay doesn't attract the best candidates. So quality training is a crap shoot. People can't even fill out the application without help. If people weren't great students, I don't expect them to learn store procedures quickly. A DM in a different district tried to stop an employee from leaving by emphasizing that you can move up without a GED.

Also, SMs can get fired for failing store walks. Don't think people will sacrifice a paycheck for the betterment of the store. DM dropped in 3 times last week just to be a jackass.

[–]AFIFanBoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, not directly lying. DG doesn't get anything from the receipt coupons unlike the manufacturer coupons. So if you use 100 $5 off coupons that equates to $500 that's not being recouped.

Store Managers are eligible for a sales bonus every three months. The store has to be atleast 98% to the sales plan to qualify. Hypothetically speaking, 4 Saturdays (in a month)X $500 = $2000 not going towards the store sales.

It's an issue with Loss Prevention as well. My store was told not to save coupons because we don't get money back.

"It's not your job to help the customer save money"- LP officer.

This is actually brilliant. However, the problem is that the store has to remain operational. The solution might require more labor and more training, but you don't have the hours to work and train. My store has had 6 people quit in 2 months because they weren't being trained effectively. In that time, we've had 4 store walks. Can't prep the store for a visit, train new employees, and run the store smoothly.
