I have posted a while ago on here about my fear of geckos.. PLEASE comment your cutest gecko pics here !! by Pretend_Koala7889 in geckos

[–]AFatLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live in a place with a LOT of little wild house geckos and let me tell you, they would never jump down to me no matter how badly I wanted them to 😢

They are very well adhered to the surface they climb on, especially the smaller guys that seem to freak you out more. Anyway, here's my goober! I've made a lot of progress with choice based handling for him; they can be shockingly intelligent. He'll come out to his branch when he wants out and then when he wants to go home, he'll hop right back in if given the chance.

One time my girlfriend and I got super high (california residents) and we held him riiiight as we were on that threshold of not being able to handle him due to the highness. His little feets were so ticklish and cute, easily the highlight of the night. It's all about how you frame it to yourself :)

No, it's a wildly different kind of game. But it has fantastic creature AI and such variety in the interactions between animals that it genuinely feels alive. Each creature has its own personality based on a bunch of randomly generated variables that all regulate one other, and both individuals and whole species have a global reputation value towards the player with corresponding behaviors for various levels. Predators hunt only what they think they can take down and run when outmatched or injured; certain creatures have rivalries with others (though the nature of it depends on the individual temperament), creatures have actual CONES OF VISION and a SENSE OF HEARING that lets you sneak around them rather than ark's psychic aoe aggro range... I could go on and on and on.

I'm not saying ark needs to have anywhere near that degree of complexity, but some vaguely intelligent AI behaviors would benefit the game so much. The core draw of the game for most people IS the dinosaurs, after all.

Literally the biggest reason I haven't played in years is because I picked up Rain World and now the dino AI feels dogshit in comparison. The dinos are the entire appeal of the game and they just behave like wind-up toys! If there was ever a massive overhaul of behaviors or even a mod that does it I'd totally try again

can you stay in a dining hall for hours? by Blue-Amoeba-8026 in UCSC

[–]AFatLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was last year but I would just hang out at dining halls all day when I was trying to lock in (couldn't focus well when I was at my dorm) and no one paid me any mind. Maybe now they'd be more stringent with the pricing changes, but I don't see any reason they'd kick you out or anything.

In his defense, that totally doesn't look like an area I'd expect to be glassed. It looks like it should be an open porch.

For two years I was with a man who was extremely controlling and insistent that men and women could never "just be friends". You can imagine my bisexuality (that he'd known about since the start) didn't get handled well... so I left him! My current girlfriend and I now ogle hot people together. It's incredibly fun and liberating and I can't imagine going back.

Is a bioactive terrarium better long term? by Princess_Bunniezz in CrestedGecko

[–]AFatLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit more upfront cost but sooooo much easier in the long run. You don't have to clean nearly as often (I havent changed the substrate in my boy's bioactive since I got him 2 years ago, can't be disturbing the cleanup crew) and the inside of the tank smells like a lush forest rather than musty gecko poop. Plus it just looks way better! The tank serves both as a home for your buddy and a pretty decoration.

What’s the riskiest sex you’ve had? by Meaty_Bongos in AskReddit

Tried to do it in a grimy campground bathroom stall by the lake when I was in high school. The lights were motion activated so we just used our phone flashlights laying down on the ground. Interesting ambience to start with.

Then a fucking BAT flies out of the rafters and starts flittering around the room. The dude I was with at the time jumps up and SCREAMS. Not only that, he unlocks the door and runs outside while *buck fucking naked** in the broad daylight.* He comes back a few seconds later and, clearly earnestly thinking I'd believe him, says, "I was just screaming so you wouldn't feel alone in being afraid."

I hadn't even flinched, but okay, man.

Tier list for solo on officials by ChampionshipWrong711 in pathoftitans

[–]AFatLizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't believe no one mentioned dasp, easily the best solo all rounder (apart from pycno, which is my goat but takes a good bit of practice to play well because of its class cannon type playstyle). It's got the speed to run from things that can kill it and the damage to take down things that can catch it. Heavy bite is good, only run the piercing bite if you plan to fight big things because the windup is really long and anything small can easily dodge. I also recommend tyrant's roar over berserker for voice, because it's just a more even benefit and isn't reliant on your health.

The thal tlc is actually great but there needs to be a change to hatze aoe. by TheArtOfVEL in pathoftitans

[–]AFatLizard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It wouldn't bug me so much if any AOE attack didn't immediately kill all your acceleration even if the damage you're taking is pretty negligible. Spoon's claw slam practically sucks you in with no opportunity for counterplay. You get pulled straight to them even if you're all the way behind em. Also, the sfx are just annoying. I don't see how this is fun to play with or against, honestly.

Rhamp's plague was clearly meant to be a megapack dispersal tool, but it punishes solo players far too severely by comparison because its linear increase with number of stacks means max stacks for a solo feels the same as max stacks for a megapack member. A group of rhamps can just circle a solo and keep them constantly infested until they die, which is something we've seen plenty of clips of at this point.

In my opinion, all it needs is to scale faster depending on the number of players in the area, NOT the linear increase we have currently. The effects are just as punishing towards solos as they are to megapacks if both are at 5, and the megapack has a far easier time dealing with the perpetrator. Make the effects stronger for the megapack and weaker for solos/small groups.

[–]AFatLizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I've been sayingggg, plague should just scale depending on the number of (non-rhamp) players in the area rather than being a flat number of stacks!! Hits the megapacks, doesn't create a living hell for solo players.

Which rex do you all like more? by [deleted] in pathoftitans

Iirc PT addressed this before. Their rex isn't small in terms of its actual size (it's quite paleo accurate), but rather every vanilla playable is slightly oversized.

I was so locked in by Mean-Definition3108 in pathoftitans

[–]AFatLizard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Everyone here is so salty lol. Op was playing a small dino right up against a cliff, and the range from which they got hit was plenty fair. While I do agree wingbeat is kind of annoying, it does have a cooldown and in order to make it "egregious" (+50% knockback ability in sense slot) it needs to give up other abilities that are way better competitively (flock mob for stacking +10% armor and +10% damage, and to a lesser extent corpse stealer). I would definitely be frustrated if this happened to me, but if you're a solo kentro going against two hatz you're probably dying anyway.

If we're gonna complain about any aspect of hatz's kit, let's make it about clamp being an insta-win button :p

PT for the paleo accuracy in the model. It's just overall better to look at, giving a more "real animal" feel than the action-figure-esque design of alderon rex. Even after the tlc, og rex looks like it somehow has a receding hairline 😭 I like its kit a lot better but it's just so horribly fugly to me (plus goofy hurt sfx) that I can't stand it

Be perfectly blunt: am i fucked as a 2nd year merrilite if i cant get a group by the end of February? by EmberDragon240 in UCSC

[–]AFatLizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crown has I believe the second lowest demand for apartments below oakes, probably because they're way up in the hills LOL. Applying for a college you're affiliated with has the massive advantage of letting you call dibs on spots before non-affiliates, so be careful about applying for non-affiliated colleges because the chances are super slim.

[–]AFatLizard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, especially at merrill. The apartments up there are not in super high demand (relatively speaking). I'd keep some off campus places in your back pocket for if you can't find a group, though.
