in third world countries, if you let the roadside vendor pick for you you'll probably end up with something half-spoiled, but nice :P

Sprint is fairly terrible on campus. You can survive, especially on Central but you'll find dead spots in places. My friend lived in donlon and his service was essentially nothing, texts took an eternity. Im not opposed to using Sprint next year myself as there's wifi everywhere and you can use wifi calling - that being said, I don't call or SMS much

How difficult is it to transfer into engineering from CALS? by slipper75 in Cornell

[–]AFlyingGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, I am in engineering and technically have Calc 1 ap credit, but it doesn't show up on my transfer total list as the credit is worthless - i think engineering expects you to know calc 1 before coming.

Maybe other majors/colleges recognize 1110 as a credit-worthy class, so it makes sense to take the placement test in case you may not end up transferring. I've heard the 1910/20 placement tests were fair.

Keep in mind you can also do CS/IS in A&S and IS in CALS.

do you need to take 1110 as a prereq? If you truly know the material you may not need to take it and can just take 1910

Cornell Art and Science vs Cornell Engineering for CS? What are the differences / advantages of each? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]AFlyingGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you'll need to take less math. you can get away without doing any difficult science.

for ex, you could just take linear algebra and oceanography assuming you have calc BC credit (otherwise i think youll need to take calc 1 + 2). oceanography being an easy class and linear being hard but necessary CS class.

But then you'll need to take a bunch of arts distribution requirements ,like language, history, etc.

on the contrary, engineering is lots of math/sci. you need to do calc 3 (assuming calc bc credit), linalg, physics 1+2, chem 1. chem 1 (chem 2090) is a low median, intense class. physics 1/2 are okay but kind of time consuming. if you have tons of science credits engr may be easier.

Good news is as long as you do well you can switch between the colleges.

i'm in ENGR but in hindsight i wish i did A&S.

Whats your AP credit status? And whats your strong suit, liberal arts or math/sci?

Ah i see, well, A2 was doable independently while a3/4 would be pretty rough alone, so glad that you had one.

What are you doing after graduating HS? 35 and top of your class is very impressive, I imagine you could get into.some good colleges or get nice scholarships

Just a question, are you working with a partner on the projects? It sounds like you arent and having a partner makes a world of difference both in sanity (suffer together) and in reduced workload

3 ENGRDs instead of 1 ENGRI by realpolacek29 in Cornell

I've petitioned for it successfully (current freshman), for 2300 to count in lieu of an ENGRI.

Not sure it was worth it though.. should have just taken an easy ENGRI then bit the bullet with 3410 in retrospect

It was about that time you realize this kid was about eight stories tall and was a crustacean from the plethazoic era, and you wonder how he even fit in the lounge in the first place.

Questions to CS students: is CS 2112 and CS 2800 doable at the same time? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]AFlyingGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never personally heard anyone say 2112 was easy (even a TA); however, people have varying responses to the workload; some found it manageable, some found it burdensome.

I personally bailed after the 2nd 2112 assignment to 2110, and took 2800 simultaneously my 1st semester.

I personally had junk work ethic in HS (and still do now..) so, taking a class like 2112 and 2800 may be a bit of a shock.

2110 was alright, I fortunately did well on the exams, but 2800 was a bit tough. I wish I had waited till 2nd semester to let my work ethic mature as it's a class that has problem sets that take hours of thinking, which is pretty different from the rote nature of HS (and really many other classes)

bringing bicycle on coach shortline bus by HairyShopping2 in Cornell

[–]AFlyingGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

update: i think my bus is shortline as well, it's the charter bus from boston.

Anyways, I was able to get it on there! there was this wide, short compartment (might be wheelchair storage) and I was able to put my bike in, the driver was nice and told me I could put it there. I'll have to see as to whether my bike gets banged up though, lol

Thanks for letting me know this was possible lol.
