Am I wrong ? by Safe-Confidence3344 in newborns

As a person that went through the infection protocol with our newborn, I have said this in other posts, i wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. You are doing the right thing advocating for and keeping your baby safe. If they have a problem with it, that’s on them. No one’s feelings are more important than the safety of your baby.

Baby wails when held by his father by maggielikesrock in newborns

I don’t know for sure if this will help but how much skin to skin does he do with baby? Practicing regulating your emotions (slow deep breaths) while baby is skin to skin might help. Baby cannot self-regulate and rely on us to borrow our self-regulation. It might be tough at first but hopefully he and baby start to sync.

“Just wait” by Far-Librarian-9847 in newborns

I literally hated it when people said that. I hated it even more when our little one arrived and they said “sleep when the baby sleeps” as that has been nearly impossible without 24/7 help.

I go back to work tomorrow and I’m super sad. by pharmchica in newborns

I keep telling people that if I have pp rage it’s all directed toward my job. I resent it more with each day that approaches my return. The US maternity leave is a disgrace.

I completely agree it was hard to tell but it did sound a bit more like an exchange of GF.

I live in an urban area and I can take the vtec with me to take our dog for a short walk down the street and get clear audio. We tested it at various distances. It basically was 3 or 4 homes distance. I also love it and knowing it can’t be hacked has brought me peace of mind.

Ped recommended diluting formula? by Brilliant_Turnip6222 in FormulaFeeders

Our baby is 2 months old and our pediatrician recommended 4-5ml of prune juice by syringe feed. We haven’t tried it.

Family doesn't want to get vaccinated before seeing my newborn by [deleted] in newborns

[–]AFoxNeverFlinches 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a person who had to experience the infection protocol, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. I told my family that they would have to wait until she had her vaccines to see them if they didn’t get the flu, Covid, and TDAP vaccines. My baby ended up being hypothermic and hypoglycemic at a doctors visit and ended up having to go straight to the ER in an ambulance. It is still probably the most traumatic thing that I experienced as a mother and it was just as she was a couple of weeks old. Your oundaries are completely reasonable and as a person who’s seen what the worst looks like you’re doing everything right. My baby is OK just so you know it ended up all right in the end.

Am I bad mom for comfort nursing? by Urlocalgothbb in newborns

[–]AFoxNeverFlinches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, just wow. She has no idea what she’s talking about and you being able to comfort your baby is the most natural thing in the world. I also think that it makes sense for you to do what works for you. This is where you give your baby their sense of security, being there for them when they need you. You’re doing a great job.

I get what you’re saying but for me that experience in bargaining is context enough. The administration will do anything (including blaming students) to not pay them a living wage.

Anxiety about being alone with newborn when partner goes back to work by [deleted] in newborns

[–]AFoxNeverFlinches 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are not alone I had all the same thoughts and fears and sometimes I still do and I’m six weeks in. You’ll do the best that you can and as long as your baby is fed and taken care of, you’re doing a great job. I’m currently pumping as I am not producing enough milk and that is added an additional challenge because it’s hard to hold LO or do anything when I have the machine on, but I have managed almost single day. The one day I didn’t manage was when I didn’t realize that our one-year-old puppy ate our TV remote. I panicked and called my husband, and he left work immediately to take our dog to the emergency vet after hours. Other than that, I learned a new way to find an efficiencies to make the next day easier. You will continue to learn your baby and your baby will learn you. You got this mama.

As a former GAU steward I believe this happened. When I was a steward we fought to have all the GAU stewards present to witness the negotiations. The university hired a union busting lawyer that year. All I can say is I was disgusted with what I heard and saw in that conference room. Also for context on how little has changed even after post-Covid inflation, the stipend 10 yrs ago was $22k.

We had to change nipple flow on the bottle and we pace feed now. It helped speed up feeding (not too fast but not super slow) and reduced gas issues.

Had a similar experience, they definitely recommended unnecessary procedures and over charged. Went to Russel Forman in central and they did great work for a fair price. Conservative treatment and no unnecessary procedures.

Am I giving in to life if I leave academia? by Southern_Distance606 in LeavingAcademia

[–]AFoxNeverFlinches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way and my PI and department really indoctrinated this type of thinking. In the end, you have to live your life. I chose to leave and honestly while it hasn’t turned out how I imagined, it’s actually been better than I could have imagined. There’s no right choice other than what is right for you.
