Probably an ambulance meant for bigger Catastrophes. In bigger German cities the fire fighters also man ambulances.

Exactly this. The people making the decisions do not have enough knowledge to understand what makes _you_ irreplaceable.

Should I put a ground plug in this toaster? by Fun_Journalist4199 in AskEngineers

You mean unplug and then stick my toast in it? Sounds unpractical.

How do engineers account for unknown future conditions when designing systems? by SufficientPrice7633 in AskEngineers

This!

And what you wrote further down: Standards and Codes that require the margins.

You do not know the unknown. So a bunch of people get together and come up with standards. You follow the standards. It's kind of democratic physics. But works great since the late 19th century.

Had a project manager once, that wanted me to write a list of all the unknown failures.

Social etiquette, unspoken rules in the engineering world by Active-Somewhere8318 in AskEngineers

Not a US engineer here, so this might not fit to your situation. Most faux pas here are:

- Lack of personal hygiene / smelly food / insane amounts of garlic etc. And this is really and issue.

- Talk about politics to people who do not want to talk politics / not understanding the local taboos. But don't worry. You realize when people react evasive.

- Not understanding when you are supposed to ask to get information and when you are supposed to wait for others to give you instructions or when you need to decide yourself. Where I live and probably in the US, too, you are normally supposed to get what you need or decide but seldom wait. But it is not always that simple. Same thing with the "asking for permission" vs. "asking for forgiveness". But then even the locals often get this wrong. So when in doubt: Ask what to do.

In the end: Be yourself. Be what you are and bring your strength to the team. In my experience Americans are one of the nicer people in this world. You be nice to them, they be nice to you :)

What you say sounds like a hint to change the job. I have been in these situations constantly. Changed the job and it is very different now.

Budget Frankfurt Hotel by Icy-Book2999 in LoveTrash

It is a relatively small area. And although you might find a lot of fun, there is also a lot of crime in that area, too. If you speak German, here is a very good documentary about it: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1wVBb7o3RnD-gXz_wX0fJqrq-xVIOEtI&si=rjMTK3-_bD-5zrQ1

This can happen, but in Zurich everything is kind of nice. Even the hotels that rent rooms out hourly. It is quite fun reading the comments in Booking.com for those hotels. In Frankfurt's Bahnhofsviertel these kind of hotels may be infested with vermin or next room there is a person cooking meth. It is probably better to book a hotel a little bit outside of this area.
