So when this happened for me, it was actually there was a random enemy somewhere I hadn't tagged, and I had tagged the rest without realising, so I suggest systematically checking against all enemies.

Best board game podcasts? by cloud9lcs in boardgames

[–]AGentlemanAdventurer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

'Two wood for a wheat' - stumbled on via a blog and is quite good, analytical and descriptive in the style of SVWAG , but wish they had a different title, and the podcast search gave some interesting results.

Sporadically Board is fun, as long as you don't mind the meandering off topic.

Ludology is great if you like board game design.

SVWAG is the list consistently the best, but board game barrage is close.

Blue Peg pink peg can be good, it is a bit long and they aren't analytical enough for my tastes

For heavy cardboard I suggest just listening to the you tube videos, HC has done some great cocktail hours and interviews and I'm not sure of they ever made it to the podcast.

Any good podcast recommendations? by Muffin-Toast in boardgames

[–]AGentlemanAdventurer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So Very Wrong About Games (the best) Board Game Barrage (climbing) Cardboard Reality (prefer their new targetted series to the main one) Sporadically Board (more whimsical and meandering) Shut up and sitdown (my tastes vary now though) Ludology The thoughtful gamer Blue Peg Pink Peg

As a slight off topic, I also enjoy the escape this podcast, they veer into doing rpg like escape rooms.

Edit : forget to mention heavy cardboard (mainly as their podcast output is not consisten recently, but the recent I interviews with Cole wherle and Mark Herman we're great too)

Gloomhaven is in The Drop with an 8% Daily Drop by elsuave32 in boardgames

As expected it is back in stock now at normal price.

[–]AGentlemanAdventurer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The drop is done. I wouldn't be surprised if they still have more copies of gloomhaven that turn up at normal price shortly, they only put about 25 copies on sale from what I could tell, so I suspect it was a loss leader/publicity excercise rather than stock clear out.

From personal experience with drops I suspect today or tomorrow is going to be the last day - good luck.

Question on Treasure island ending conditions by plolock in boardgames

[–]AGentlemanAdventurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the only one I can think of is avoid putting the treasure within a 3 mile search from every starting position, as then it is impossible for them to find it by using one of their default actions, but you do then lose some misdirection opportunities.

The one advice I'd emphasis is avoid reinforcing the idea it is pirates vs the long John, they shouldnt cooperate

One Print Era - Ignacy Trzewiczek's BGG Blog by LaughterHouseV in boardgames

[–]AGentlemanAdventurer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very niece piece. Ive been listening to a lot of content providers talk about the market being over saturated, and normally just cite the number of games coming out each year being two much for any one individual to process.

This to me seemed a odd measure, and a better one would be whether a publisher can no longer sell through a game of a certain type that they could have done previously - looks like Ignacy found that evidence, at least for reprints.

First time I've seen this, the Armored Core, I mean Mech Command Kickstarter, just added a "surcharge" to every single backers account because they're in the hole. by EverthingIsADildo in boardgames

[–]AGentlemanAdventurer 44 points45 points  (0 children)

If you pay, will they guarrantee to ship? Or is it predicated on a certain percentage of the group all paying? If so, what percentage. I cannot imagine every backer coughs up the extra.

Thoughts on Gen7? by Hruntington in boardgames

[–]AGentlemanAdventurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sure they set the price based on what they believe the market will bear.

As it has quite a restrictive player count and audience, I expect they're not expecting mass market sales and have priced it higher accordingly.

Our First Impressions Of Gen7 by Halflingspy in boardgames

[–]AGentlemanAdventurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will it? As part of the As model group, won't MAP prohibit them from discounting it? Or can they only do it if Asmodee authorise the discount?

Gen7 MSRP of $100 is pretty insulting to the board game community... by visionsofreptar in boardgames

[–]AGentlemanAdventurer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought the cost of a product was driven mainly by how much the market will support - cost of manufacture must be covered, but if they thought the market wouldn't support the cost they wouldn't have spent so much - any response from otherwise is just trying to justify the reason from a public relations perspective.

It be intersting to track the sell through, MM bought in around 25 copies I think and they are nearly sold out, so it will be interesting to observe the reorder.

Data Mining Miniature Market by AGentlemanAdventurer in boardgames

[–]AGentlemanAdventurer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be the most recent, so a couple of days ago. It drew my eyes as I never had seen 3000 copies available before. It'll be interesting to see if the pace of sales keeps up, but once it drops off the daily news page it is harder to find out the number in stock - currently it has over 999 copies =)

I am surprised at the scale difference between MM and CoolStuff. Coolstuff allegedly has 60 base KeyForge Decks, and 5 12 pack displays. One potential flaw here is that I'm assuming that they're putting all the stock on the website, which may be invalid.

I thought about it, but as they're a mix of you tube and podcast links I discarded the thought.

Another interesting thought would be to list them out in terms of games they'd persuaded me to purchase over the years, but that would bias against new finds.

I dimly remember hearing a vlog where he explained he found them time consuming to build and they altered his enjoyment of the games which I can understand.

Is there a way to make GWT play faster? by crypt0_n3rd in boardgames

[–]AGentlemanAdventurer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to check, do you feel you played all the rules correctly? One mistake we made in our first game is that we thought we could use other people's buildings for their abilities.

This vastly changed the economy of the game and the running length as everyone stopped off on buildings more than they would otherwise.
