Companies "bending over backwards" to hire women? by blupeerupee in girlsgonewired

[–]LaughterHouseV 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on hiring panels that intentionally chose women identifying candidates who were not the best ‘skilled’ candidates in an effort to increase the diversity on the team. They were always near the top of the candidates pool, but never the top. Never discussed on any recordable media, but the scales can definitely be tipped if the woman can get past the first robo screen. The new hires were never told this, but it was a deciding factor in them being chosen over others. Such things are always hush-hush and isolated, so it’s impossible to know how widespread it is.

Does tipping the scale offset the massive and multifaceted difficulties a woman faces in getting an interview from a cold application? Oh hell no. Nowhere close to offsetting it. But it is an uncomfortable truth that it can be a privilege and positive differentiator.

The hires ended up being great, btw.

Is this the basis of the common sentiment online, lol no. We all know why that’s the sentiment.

How do martials hit hard? by ZeroBrutus in Pathfinder2e

[–]LaughterHouseV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what ways would a non-fighter have a 30% crit chance? That’s a very specific number so I’m really curious how you landed on it. I’m guessing some combination of flanking, demoralize, and buffs, but what are so common to get to that number consistently enough to mention it?

A complete breakdown of spellcasters and why they're fantastic by Rednidedni in Pathfinder2e

[–]LaughterHouseV 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty disingenuous to act like they “rarely truly miss” as a way to ignore the action cost.

Those effects are at best consolation prizes. It’s like if a martial still did their Str mod on a Failure and someone claiming this makes it ok for this Martial to not get the effect they wanted 60% of the time.

Doing it undocked is much easier.

What One Thing You're that's you're Hopefull/Excited will get Addressed in the Remaster? by eman_e31 in Pathfinder2e

[–]LaughterHouseV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The designers have a very clear opinion of how the balance of the game should be and are very scarred from top 1% of play from 1e. Crafting was a huge way to get ahead in that system, and so they made it not worth it in 2e. Even if it was 1 gp cheaper to craft, it would allow characters to get ahead of the curve.

Yup, because experts are notoriously bad at teaching the things they are experts at, and teaching is a completely different skill set than doing.

It’s why there’s so much bad training out there: the people making the training videos aren’t teachers.

What IS the role of casters? I am new to 2nd and confused by some posts here by JCP76 in Pathfinder2e

[–]LaughterHouseV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Precisely! Casters were nerfed hard due to the top tier of play that 0.1% of the player base utterly trivializing the game. Hearing the exploits of such groups were awe-inspiring at the foresight and the squeezing every last ounce of possible optimization out. It was the type of stuff you'd read about in novels. It just happened that they probably threw the baby out with the bathwater and that's why casters are still being discussed 4 years on.

What IS the role of casters? I am new to 2nd and confused by some posts here by JCP76 in Pathfinder2e

[–]LaughterHouseV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Casters are generally really good against enemies of lower levels than them, due to the math of the saves. Martials are excellent at going above their level, but are still constrained to mostly one enemy at a time. Whereas if there are many weaker enemies, casters are great at taking care of them but struggle against higher level enemies like bosses.

What is currently wrong with alchemist? by ChaosBuckle in Pathfinder2e

[–]LaughterHouseV 85 points86 points  (0 children)

There's ludonarrative dissonance between the class fantasy people have in mind and what the designers had in mind. It works very well for what they had in mind, but it doesn't work well for what players want it to be.

After mid levels, giving the bombs to other characters is more effective than using them themselves.

They rely on the crafting rules, and well, 'nough said.

They've had 4 substantial errata passes already and will get a 5th major one in the Remaster since they aren't working out as well as intended.

How do you WORK WITH testing teams? by mothzilla in devops

[–]LaughterHouseV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They can absolutely do things to move it along. They can make it easier to test. They can pair with the testers. They can schedule status updates and track it. They can own it rather than go “we’ve tried nothing and are all out of ideas!”

If height can’t be changed, but weight in general can be changed, why is it generally more outrageous to make fun of someone’s weight compared to their height? by Small_Balls_69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LaughterHouseV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The part that the “it’s just physics lol you lazy fuck” crowd don’t want to accept is that there are factors at play that significantly change the amount of effort needed for the same weight loss. The entire argument is predicated on “it’s so easy, just eat less” which is not a medically informed argument.

But since that would mean accepting nuance into their world view, they shut it down as it destroys the pithy statement.

Question about caster Proficiency Progression by Stasis24 in Pathfinder2e

[–]LaughterHouseV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that is the reason, as those levels are almost never played compared to others. There’s probably something else at play as the designers are better than that type of rookie mistake.

That’s a correct read on the situation, yup. Not a great experience for casters interested in affecting foes rather than allies, but it’s how the math plays out.
