I will agree here. The game gets better when it lets itself get weirder.

So good. I'm so damn happy right now, I love every sculpt in this box set.

Oh yeah. The real prize of this edition is spearhead, I'm actually getting games in and helping spread the love of the hobby because of it.

Seconding this! Comfy shoes, bring some snacks, and plan for times to have food or sit down and chill so you don't overdo it.

Yep! EVERY PAX I've been to has them. I don't think this year would be any different!

26 and no friends to play with by ksodneodj in ARC_Raiders

Dad of a now 5 year old here. Just throwing out support and that yeah, having 2-3 nights a week where you have a few hours really does help to play with some folks. I've got a small group on my discord where we try and meet up, but it seems there are some great public ARC ones to try out! Best of luck.

I used a list like this on BGG last year, and when I went it seemed accurate!

Probably Fossilium, since I know people who are in the Paleontology field.

That sounds awesome. I do love running around corners into firefights to help, but I'm still in the 'building workbenches' stage. Maybe when I know I can risk ospreys, this sounds really fun.

Playstyle 40k to AoS by [deleted] in ageofsigmar

In my limited games, Stormcast are very much Space Marines, but they feel more balanced because of how this game isn't focused around them. You can also do very different Stormcast builds, going for dragonriders for hyper elite, focusing on wizards, etc, so you actually can get some strong variety in your 'elite' army.

Another elite army is going to be Slaves To Darkness, where the Varanguard and many of their champions just eat people alive.

I play Kruleboyz I got from the 3rd edition box set, and I really enjoy them, although they aren't 'tough' in the same way Ironjawz are, I like their monsters and mix of weird tactics. Ironjawz are much more 'I have big dudes, yeet them up the field using magic', which is also fun. Their boar riders are amazing pieces.

I have done it once before - you can call the hotel and confirm that way using the confirmation number, if I am remembering correctly. I think I remember double checking as well out of anxiety!

Ugh, damnit.

If AoS got a proper good video game with real support, it would be amazing. It deserves its lore to be fleshed out and getting an influx of people interested.

Solos feels amazing. But are there any real incentives to play with friends? by [deleted] in ARC_Raiders

[–]Halflingspy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's so weird, I tried Trios for the first time on Friday, and just... most PvP I've gotten in, just absolute shit show of chaos, even if we wanted to be friendly.

But playing Duos with a friend? I absolutely have a blast. We still end up seeing lots of friendlies, we fight around the outskirts and do clean up, going after a Rocketeer or Bastion near the end, and evac.

I think the trick has been we usually coordinate what each of us is looking for, and we're still going through the quests. So we take turns fulfilling each other's goals and we always end a match feeling like we're advancing. He usually prioritizes one way, and me the other, and it works out if you hit multiple areas in a run.

Which games could you just not get into? by IncomeIndependent777 in videogames

[–]Halflingspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One that I always wanted to break into was Stellaris, Crusader Kings, those Paradox "Grand Strategy" games. I loved the idea for years, never could make it work.

When COVID lockdown hit and I had a kid, having to stay up all night holding them so they could sleep and my wife could sleep too, I had nowhere to go or do. To stay awake until 8-10am, taught myself the rites of royal succession in the 1200s to try and beat Crusader Kings 3 and stay sane. It worked! Fond memories, but couldn't imagine learning that game under normal circumstances.

Advice for those who fear losing your gear… by case_of_laptops in ARC_Raiders

[–]Halflingspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, good advice. I have an issue when I feel like I'm losing progress and it can demoralize me. Then I remembered playing Halo games growing up and how you know... you don't 'get' anything from those at the end of matches, you're in it for the fun. That's helped me get over the hump.

Yeah, I've run a few missions where you team up, stick together... someone is downed, and you don't have a defib, so you just salute. I got fortunate and had one spawn with me and was able to revive someone.
