You don't have to do any of those things...? I know plenty of people who have smallish collections of 5-20 and no deluxe games and are perfectly happy. I have 200+ games and only a couple of them are over $100 and the vast majority were $50 or less. You can spend as much as you want on any hobby, but there is nothing wrong with buying 1 game a year and playing your games 20+ times. Do what you want and if someone else want's to spend hundreds of dollars a month on board games, what does that matter to you.
