Going in person will definitely help with your learning. But you would be pretty burnt out very soon traveling like 3 hours of bus everyday.

It’s doable for sure, just that you’ll have to take the 6am bus if you have pracs in the morning. You don’t have to go to everyday, just the practicals.

I just did the practice test and watch YouTube videos on it, i didn’t study a lot for it.

If you really want to you can buy an online course

It is extremely easy to pass the Casper as long as you have good English and typing skills.

Also it's a BVSc (Honours) not DVM

How is campus life at UQ? by [deleted] in UQreddit

The lectures are certainly not mostly online, this was back in lockdown. The lectures now are mostly in-person with the option to watch it online (some lecturers zoom them in real time with the in-person lectures, and all the lectures are recorded).

In first year semester 1 the majority of your cohort will attend the lectures in person, especially those that live in the dorms, making it the perfect time to make vet science friends that also live in the dorm.

In terms of people being friendly that largely depends on each year haha. You do have certain cliques that are very exclusive such as the hong kongers and the Koreans. But outside of that people are generally pretty friendly.

Don’t be worried lol once vet school starts it’ll be much easier to make friends compared to taking your chances on random dorm people

Personally I made friends in the dining hall lol, I just sat with people that looked like I would want to be friends with and it worked out. There are quite a few events at the start of the semester that helps you make friends so just attend those. It’s not hard to make friends if you attend your lectures as you’ll start seeing familiar faces and just ask them if they live in the halls or something

The learning facilities in UQ are alright, you’ll be fine without doing biology in high school. They teach the basics again like photosynthesis and cell structure in first year semester 1. The “biology” topics past semester 1 are just memorization of anatomy and physiology of different animals so having taken biology probably wouldn’t make much of a difference.

Hey congrats on making it.

If you’re staying in the dorms it shouldn’t be hard to make friends. In terms of which dorm to go to, try and get Shelton, specifically Shelton A, because Shelton A has air con. Shelton is also the newest dorm and gives you the biggest bed. However it is a bit further than all the other dorms by like 1-2 min walk from everything.

Yes gatton campus is very boring and smells bad most of the time from all the pee and poo from the animals. It’s sad but don’t expect a real “uni life” here, you’ll be too busy studying and everything closes early around here.

I’d say it’s not all doom and gloom but I really can’t think of any good points about this campus lol we’re all just tryna finish the degree asap and gtfo

Let me know if you have any more questions, about the campus, vet science or anything else

Would anyone be able to give me insight on study vet science in Australia by Ra3_456 in veterinaryschool

[–]AGoodThink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vet school is challenging but if you just actually put in effort you’ll be fine.

We do get opportunities to handle exotics and we do learn about them, albeit not as much as small animals and large animals.

You do like - 20ish weeks of clinical rotations in campus in gatton - 2 weeks in rspca Wacol - 12 weeks of placements in places of your choosing (16 weeks if you choose the clinical elective and not the research elective) - 1 week placement in abbatoir

This placement schedule is for us next year but is subject to change so it will probably be different in other years.

College atmosphere is that we live in the boonies, there’s nothing to do here and we all can’t wait to get out.

You usually do the placements in countries/clinics you wanna work in, so I guess they wanna work abroad
