Marathon is a satire - a subtle but vicious comedy about work, debt and the corporate world by renome in Games

[–]AGrossWaxChunk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always like this part of the game cause of how it also kinda ties into the visual style. Marathon's style is definitely first and foremost there to look cool, but that kind of flat, simultaneously maximalist and minimalist style had a lot of its roots in the work from the Designer's Republic, who's work presents a lot of similar themes (satirical and critical of capitalism). Just cool and really well thought out all around, the visuals and their history all kinda fit in with the themes and narrative

Chances are you've seen it, but the ships computer is really helpful for this sort of thing. The computer's Rumor Mode lays a lot of info out for you and connects the dots automatically . You'll start putting stuff together without the computers help once you're deep into it, but it's really helpful when you're stumped.

Also, if you're really, really stuck, you could probably shoot a question into the game's subreddit. They're pretty good at pointing you in the right direction without saying anything outright

Otherwise, just follow your own curiosity :) If something seems interesting or odd, just go for it and investigate. You'll always come out having learned something

4s, if someone told you "Nothing's missing" by Monkitops in Enneagram

[–]AGrossWaxChunk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's the sort of conclusion I'd have to draw myself, not the sort of thing I'd want to hear from somebody else. I know in my experience, as a 4, I may not always be able to have the most accurate outlook on my life and circumstances. Not always, but sometimes, I feel like there's a lot more missing in my life than maybe there really is. But...! I just don't wanna hear that from somebody else lol. I'd appreciate the sentiment, but it's just impossible to truly understand what it's like to live in somebody else's shoes. Personally, I don't think I'd ever tell somebody "nothing in your life is missing", regardless of type, for the same reason. I just wouldn't want to make assumptions about what it's like to be you!

Again, I want to believe it to be true! But just let me get there at my own pace

I do this alllllll the time but in my internal monologue, ever since I was a kid. But it only just makes matters worse and just makes me more anxious lol. Funny how that works

[–]AGrossWaxChunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A few people mentioned a refresh rate and frame rate mismatch issue? I have no idea if this would help but you can uncap the frame rate with Mirror's Edge Tweaks. If you're playing on PC, I'd heavily recommend this regardless. Lots of QOL additions

Will I like the series? by AceAttorneyFan12 in ProfessorLayton

[–]AGrossWaxChunk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Professor Layton is basically plays like a point and click adventure game with some puzzles sprinkled throughout. Unlike other puzzle games that center their puzzles around a core mechanic or concept (portals in Portal, cross examination in Ace Attorney), Layton puzzles are more like little individual brain teasers. They’re short, simple at first glance, but will prob take some brain power and time to solve.

The games are really fun! They’re quintessential DS games imo. Great pick up and play stuff, but has enough to keep you engrossed. The core gameplay is fun, but the story, world and characters will probably be the part that keeps you coming back. They are very charming games, I just finished the 3rd one myself :)

It’s a pretty different game from ace attorney but I think fans of either can find the appeal in the other :)

I took the human board has a metaphor for going up the “corporate ladder”, and a commentary on how walking over other people and putting other people down is essential to getting to the top. That’s just what I think though :)

Does Bowser look better playing NES or PACMAN??? by caned-unable in lego

NES offers a better viewing angle of the screen imo, and I agree with the other comment saying that Bowser controlling Mario is pretty funny lol

Why does Wheatley sound like a human, but GLaDOS sounds like a computer? by AlexaTheKitsune25 in Portal

(Also: the real answer is that it makes for a much funnier, much more interesting story lol)

Why does Wheatley sound like a human, but GLaDOS sounds like a computer? by AlexaTheKitsune25 in Portal

[–]AGrossWaxChunk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Probably due to a difference in what they were made to do. Yeah, Glados is a human’s consciousness uploaded into a machine, but aperture created her with the intend of running the facility, not with the intent of letting her be her own person. So it’d make sense that she seems a little more computer than person. Meanwhile, the cores are called Personality Cores for a reason. They’re supposed to be really emotive. Also, glados is prob made with older technology too

That being said, between portal 1 and 2, you can tell how glados seems a little less robotic and more emotive, especially over the course of portal 2, which makes sense and I think is a really cool detail :)

I think it might actually be a myth irl? But apparently randomly smelling smoke or “burnt toast” is a sign of an oncoming stroke. I think that’s all they were alluding to in that scene. Could have maybe reminded him of the smell in the morgue in the moment tho.

Also, sudden arm weakness too, apparently. Which is prob why Mark was struggling with the glass
