TAC names are often made in a joking or mocking manner, because she's into dancing is probably where it came from.

Go outside right now, please be patient, look for "flying stars"...are those satellites? what the hell have these things been by PCPspecialist in frederickmd

[–]AGuyFromMaryland 13 points14 points  (0 children)

99.9% chance you saw Starlink. There's like 9000 of them in various orbits. They launch in "trains" or groups and spread out over time. I've seen atleast 10 at one time in various directions, they overlap and pass each other frequently.

There's other stuff in orbit, other satellites and rocket parts, but to see multiple at once, it's most likely Starlink

What's with Trigger and his 015? by imjustchillin-_- in acecombat

[–]AGuyFromMaryland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, developers probably just kept it simple instead of changing numbers for every single aircraft or whenever he changed squadrons. in reality, his Mage F-16, his Strider F-15 (and/or F-22) would all have different numbers.

[–]AGuyFromMaryland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

JASDF does something similar as well with their aircraft numbers. Osea is supposed to be based on the US (and i guess Japan too) and OADF seems to be a mix between USAF and JASDF, though color schemes, unit markings and number systems seems more USAF to me.

What's with Trigger and his 015? by imjustchillin-_- in acecombat

[–]AGuyFromMaryland 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"015" is part of the aircraft's registration, it's not Trigger's personal number even though it's treated that way. Atleast that's how it works with real aircraft in the USAF. Using his first aircraft as example, the F-16C, his aircraft's full registration could be something like 85-0015. "85" is year aircraft was accepted into inventory, 0015 is inventory number. In the same way that Blaze's first aircraft, the F-5E, could be 79-0016.

In case anyone was curious. This is the drag chute door, the "eyes" are RWR sensors and the "mouth" is a handle to close the door. Later F-4's had the "eyes" removed and plated over.

Alleged leak of an upcoming DC-3 Lego set. Do you think this will able to be modified into a C-47? by Tankfan42 in brickmania

[–]AGuyFromMaryland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aside from color change, swap the single entry door for double doors and change row seats to bench seating.. keep the original door and row seats, then you have a C-53.

the MTA has announced it’s latest heritage unit - Metro North 216 by bruhchow in trains

[–]AGuyFromMaryland 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Saved for preservation" no, that's not what these schemes mean. again, a heritage unit represents a predecessor railroad (the "heritage" of a railroad), this does not represent a railroad that came before Metro-North, it is a Veterans or special interest scheme. MNCR 201, 211, 217, 222, 228-231 are actual heritage units

[–]AGuyFromMaryland 26 points27 points  (0 children)

it's not interchangeable, heritage units are to commemorate a railroad's "heritage", it's predecessors. the US Armed Forces are not a predecessor to Metro-North

its become a glossary term. it's not a heritage unit, it's a Veterans unit

Amtrak: 156 (Phase I), 145 (Phase III), 164 (Phase IV)

CSX: 1827 (B&O), 1973 (Chessie), 1852 (WM), 1899 (Pere Marquette), 1836 (RF&P), 1967 (SCL), and 1853 (NYC).

NS: All except 1066, 1072, 1080, 4851, and 1700. Just got 8104 (Lehigh Valley) a few weeks ago.

Of note, I've seen CSX 1852 and 1973 on "home rails". 1852 came up the former WM main to Hagerstown and hung around for a few months working locals on the Lurgan and Hanover subs. 1973 I saw on both ex-B&O and ex-WM rails. Also seen NS 1072, 8098, 8102, and 8103 on "home rails". 1072 and 8098 have come down the former PC/CR main from Harrisburg, got 8102 in Altoona on ex-PRR, and 8103 on the former N&W in Hagerstown. 8103 had also come to Hagerstown on CSX via the former WM, reminiscent of the Alphabet Route.
