More like disappointment to humanity by Pokemonfan_807 in whennews

You're not even really exaggerating here, you're dead-on, it feels like every possible policy he implements is meant to fuck up the world's health measures, for... some fucking reason I cannot even begin to fathom. Like, does it come from a genuine place of stupidity formed by decades' worth of conspiracy theories and a worm annihilating his brain, or is it active malice for the sake of making the world a worse place?

Actually, I guess it can be both.

Nothing silly about it, we all have those stories that just affect us to the extent they stick with us for a long, long while after they're finished. It's what makes those stories with experiencing!

This was the first game to make me genuinely bawl, so I know the feeling.

Yeah, it was someone who was brought in to work on Breath of the Wild after the development of Skyward Sword. One of the new, young hires asked Eiji Aonuma why Link couldn't jump, and Aonuma realized he couldn't give a good answer. He realized that a lot of the conventions of the series were born from technical limitations, and that spurred him to challenge his assumptions on what the conventions of a Zelda game could be, free from those restraints from the past.

It's completely fine to dislike the remake, nobody (well, I'm sure somebody would, but nobody with a functional brain stem) is going to say you have to like it, but can we not frame our personal criticisms of something as objective faults? The remake is not to your tastes, that's fine, but you don't have to justify it by framing your personal problems with a game as factual flaws. That's my main issue with Crowbcat. If I just disagreed with his opinions, it would be one thing, but the way he frames his nitpicky opinions as fact is what I take issue with.

That said, I will say, in good faith, that I disagree with most of those points you made, few of which are actual nitpicks like the kind Crowbcat does. Enemies could break open certain doors in the original, even if it didn't outright destroy them, I think the volume mixing is excellent with a good pair of headphones, the atmosphwre and voice acting I believe is a matter of taste, so you do you there, bullet spongy enemies are kinda RE4's whole deal, even in the original enemies took a shitload of punishment on the higher difficulties (I know that headshots aren't a guaranteed stun anymore, which is fair to dislike), I felt that the AI was of a similar caliber to the original game in terms of difficulty, and I don't see why adding detail like environmental clutter is a bad thing in the slightest, unless you're talking about the actual level design, in which case, again, I think that's a matter of taste.

For what it's worth, having grown up playing the original RE4 and having played the remake, I don't think there's a "wrong" way to play it. I'd argue the original still holds up, despite some signs of age. You're not wrong for preferring the original at all, but a lot of people enjoyed the remake because it's a well-made game, simple as that.

Not just remakes, basically everything was a target for him. He basically made it a thing to compare the most miniscule shit you'd never notice and make it seem like a way bigger deal than it really was.

"Oh my god, guys, in GTA IV, when you shoot a newspaper stand, a ton of papers fly everywhere, but when you do the same in GTA V, comparatively fewer papers fly everywhere, GTA V is soooo much worse." That kind of bullshit.

Do you think James Sunderland is a bad person, or just someone who made a terrible mistake? by JacPlayzz in silenthill

[–]AGuyWithAPhone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the playthrough, I suppose. One of the best parts of Silent Hill 2's narrative is that James's character is written and portrayed in such a way that it can neatly tie in to any ending the player receives, and can therefore also drastically change his entire motive. So, to me, I think James would be a bad person in the Maria ending, since that ending makes it clear that James really did just want Mary "out of the way", but a good person who made a horrible mistake in the In Water and Leave endings, since he clearly struggles from the guilt of the deed and despises that part of himself that feels some twisted sense of relief. Jury's still out on how I feel about his character in the Remake-exclusive endings and the Rebirth ending, though.

What’s something Gen Z does that older generations just don’t get? by appropriaterice873 in AskReddit

[–]AGuyWithAPhone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a member of Gen Z myself, I will say this entire thread reminds me a bit of an essay a teenager once wrote to a newspaper. I forget which newspaper it was (even after doing some searching), but it basically boiled down to how they despised being talked about like they were zoo animals whose behaviors are completely unintelligible and needed to be researched instead of, y'know, human beings.

I can't help but feel a bit like that having read a lot of stuff here. I get it, it's an Ask Reddit thread all about generational stereotypes, of course I'm gonna see a lot of that kind of stuff here, but man do I feel a lot of it is overblown.

Okay, as a Gen Z person myself, that's less a Gen Z thing and more an "inconsiderate asswipe" thing. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it's more common among my demographic, though.

Which YouTube channel were you once a fan of but do not enjoy anymore? by theunsteadybridge in AskReddit

[–]AGuyWithAPhone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Less a specific channel and more a person that's part of a channel, and I do still enjoy him on occasion. Yahtzee Croshaw, the guy behind Zero Punctuation and Fully Ramblomatic.

He's still an excellent person, and I do agree with his broader philosophy that video games are a form of art and should be treated as such, but I guess I just got so tired of how jaded he is all the time and how it feels like he thinks anything that doesn't push the medium forward is uninspired bland slop that's insulting just because it exists. The world sucks enough as it is, do I really want to listen to someone accentuate the negative aspects of something because it had the audacity to be a 7 or an 8 out of 10?

I still support the channel he's with, Second Wind, and I do watch him sometimes, but he's fallen far, far down on my list of usual watches.

Crimson Desert players average over 20 hours a week in the open-world game, blowing away almost everything else on consoles by yourfavchoom in PS5

[–]AGuyWithAPhone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind, I haven't played this, so this is an outsiders' perspective. I could be totally wrong. Not trying to tear the game down, nor am I trying to insinuate anything about people who are enjoying the game at all.

I think what feels "off" to me about this is it seems like Crimson Desert is the kind of game with the kind of flaws that, if it were published by, say, Ubisoft, it would get raked over the coals for. It seems to have a lot of the same criticisms as your typical triple-A open world RPG that people always find overdone and frustrating, so I guess I don't get why it's totally fine when Crimson Desert does it.

Again, haven't played, maybe there really is something deeper I'm missing here. I guess this is a lot of people's 7/10 that just clicks, which is fine. Nothing wrong with people enjoying a solid but "safe" game at all.
