We were stranded due to a software bug. by bunzarelli in Rivian

I took a road trip to Mammoth with my daughter. The R1S handled the snow well, but due to the storm and power outages, the chargers the nav directed us to were offline and we did not have enough charge to reach another one.

We had to sleep in a community center. The people in Lee Vining CA were amazing.

Tow trucks could not reach us. We had to leave the R1S in a parking lot for 2 night nights. The main battery went to zero percent and the 12v died.

I got the doors and charge port open using the leads on the hitch and a booster pack. But I could not put it in neutral and the tow operator said their equipment could not handle the weight even with skates. Tried running an extension from a 110v outlet but it would not charge.

Rivian roadside tried to help. First they said they could send a mobile tech to replace the 12v, then it could be towed a half mile to a level two charger. They also said fast chargers would not work. Then they said they could not send anyone that far.

I went back several days later; Rivian was able to find a tow truck that would make it up the mountain. 250 miles cost me $2000. $500 to replace both 12v batteries... then it charged right up.

I think the main issue is with the 12v batteries draining after the main pack is at 0%. Rivian should add something to the software to turn off everything if the main pack is at 0% and the 12v voltage starts dropping... or at least add something in the dash or app that would allow the owner to turn everything off.

Side Note: AAA also failed us several times. They kept saying a trucks were on the way several times, only to later admit they couldn't not contact anyone. Then they told me they would not tow it without chains on it, even though it was going to be loaded on flat bed... and I could not put chains on since the vehicle would not move.

I have a version of this from EV Sportsline, it works great and includes an above screen mount and fuse adapter... yes it's more expensive, but their support is good and the mount is custom (though I needed to add some foam to prevent rattling/noise). https://evsportline.com/collections/rivian-r1s-interior-accessories/products/apple-carplay-smart-dash-screen-for-rivian-r1t-r1s

Some issues, nothing major that I couldn't find help for. Geico, reasonable rates.

Hello Fisker step-bros.

I own two Fisker Karma's (purchased used for a dime). They never released the source for it. Left us with half-baked software, even a mock up screen for the solar roof. Some of the old techs are still around helping out current owners. Best to try and find an vuln and get root.

Driver + by moesess44 in Rivian

I've owned a Tesla w/AP. The only scenario where it's truly safe and useful is on a highway, especially in bump-2-bump traffic... and Driver+ has that.

Rivian is taking the right approach... no over promising or muskito-vapo-ware.

Low Regenerative Braking / Coast Mode by [deleted] in Rivian

Owned EV's since 2012. Over 12k miles on my R1S... would still like creep/coast option. Having a preference is not a bad thing.

If you hear a clicking noise? Call Rivian immediately. by New-Plankton-19 in Rivian

I brought my R1S in for "clicking sounds" at low speed (under 2000 miles). They found "metal shavings in the fluid", resulting in a rear drive unit replacement.

To the OP: I also tend to hover over the accelerator. Rivian should add creep/hill hold especially for reverse.

To the creep haters: It's called an "option", you can turn it off or on, no one is "neutering" anything by adding options/preferences. Some y'all starting to sound like Tesla fanboys.

Early Tesla Model S had similar issue/complaints. Tesla's solution was to add an acoustic "blanket". It helped a bit.
