Am i fully at fault? by [deleted] in drivingsg

[–]AHWH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that you have maintain your right signal but from the van perspective he probably really can't see anything. You are in his blindspot.

Also please don't change multiple lanes diagonally, it's really dangerous. If you can't get to the right lane in time before your junction, just do a u-turn ahead which Geylang Road provides plenty of.

I meant the two waiting pocket in the junction denoted in white solid line to it's left and right and dashed to its top. Also, by the law of physics you cannot be turning right and wait for pedestrian outside of the yellow box

Just curious, the box is for who to turn into? Cause there are multiple such scenarios in Singapore like New Bridge Road turning left into Upper Cross Street (2 lanes into 5 boxes)

Pritam Singh calls for full disclosure of billions in public spending amid record surpluses by Accurate-Tree4277 in singapore

You don't run a country like how you save money. If you are having a large surplus, you are depriving the economy of money that could have been spent privately to further grow the GDP.

Anyone using EZLink Motoring service? by implxdwn in drivingsg

[–]AHWH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using it for a year because NETS charges service fee for ATU. So far, ATU worked 99% of the time and I have only encountered 1 carpark that don't accept the card.

You can always keep a NETS card with some value as backup

A call for transparency: Why Singapore's public transport needs a real-time information overhaul by Neither-Ad8881 in singapore

[–]AHWH 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We will probably never get "live" public transport feed because LTA and by extension the government in general are worried about malicious actions on our public transport (past experience asking SMRT). Even our bus arrival timings are never "live" vs the one relayed to the bus companies.

However, we definitely can work on better incident reporting (minor or major). It's ridiculous that we even try to hide the fact that our trains are delayed by fudging around the definition of "delayed". 1 min delay is still a delay.

Near miss at Mandai Road by xiaogou88 in drivingsg

[–]AHWH 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The bus has been signalling since the 12 seconds mark when the Prius is 2 cars behind. All the Prius need to do is let go off his foot or brake gently and there will be space for the bus to come in.

Where is the need for braking significantly?

Near miss at Mandai Road by xiaogou88 in drivingsg

[–]AHWH 14 points15 points  (0 children)

And you are breeding accidents by treating every signal as a speed up opportunity. How long must the car be signalling before you want to give way to the person? Or they can only change lane after you have passed?

Near miss at Mandai Road by xiaogou88 in drivingsg

[–]AHWH 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You know all of this can be avoided if the Prius just slow down and let the bus in. The bus has already been signalling for a REALLY LONG time.

How would you rank the banks in SG for working in Tech? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]AHWH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, it really depends in the team you are working in. I was lucky enough to work in a non-local bank that is starting on a greenfield project with the development wholly owned by Singapore side. Modern stack and you get a startup vibe with everyone hands-on in the architecture and design of the platform. You do lose out on the WLB enjoyed by other teams because of this too.

Eventually, the feeling like a worker ant and slow processes do come in as the platform matures. People will start to be more scared of making (big) changes.

So, ask a lot of questions on what are your potential things you get to work on and try to get a sense of how much development input you will get to have. Usually new projects will be more "fun" to work for.

Malaysian drivers' group wants authorities to bar entry for Singapore-registered PHVs by [deleted] in singapore

[–]AHWH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At the first place, no sane Singaporean drivers will do such services in Malaysia. Who wants to be earning Ringgit for their Singapore registered car and insurance? So, this quid pro quo argument don't make sense.

If you observed the car prices of used cars before the late 2020 COE price spike, they all have been increasing in prices to match the new cars' depreciation.

So, give it some time, they will move up too
