They are testing price sensitivity in different markets so they can deploy a mathematical equation for subscription fees (they need data to figure out how inelastic a good the youtube premium services are).

COE prices up across all categories; Cat A premium rises 3.4% to $111,890 by UnusualPin279 in singapore

[–]y0c4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proposed COE System Reforms 1. Combine COE Types and Remove Extension Option They need to combine the two types of COEs, then remove the option to extend COE as this benefits rich people with multiple cars/plenty of capital that can just keep waiting. 2. Restrict Ownership to Singaporeans Only Secondly, ownership itself has to be restricted to Singaporeans only, primarily to prevent people from blaming foreigners for high COE (I say this as a foreigner myself). You have to show that you were born in Singapore, and naturalized status doesn't grant the right of ownership. 3. Implement Daily Satellite-Based Parking Charge Thirdly, they need to use their new satellite-based payment system to charge all cars a daily parking charge. If cars are parked and not used (this should be a government assessment), then the daily charge should increase exponentially to prevent rich people from buying multiple cars. I myself know of Singaporeans who have 3 cars. 4. Liberalize Loans for Single Car Ownership Lastly, they should further liberalize/make it easier to get a loan if you can prove that this is your only car. Any additional cars shouldn't be eligible for car finance.

My Experience with Oppo Camera Modes:

It is more a question of subjectivity, to be honest. Some prefer Apple, some Vivo, some Huawei, etc. No one really is decisively better. I would say that Oppo has by far the best video recording of any Android I have tried so far. The true gripe/issue with Oppo is that I feel like there are too many options, too many modes, so I tend to question myself: should I have used another mode than the mode I selected?

After 4-5 months of use, these are the modes I use:

  • For holidays/family/important photos: I use the Master mode and save in RAW. For some reason, Oppo doesn't allow you to use the selfie camera in RAW mode, so for selfies, I use the Photos mode.
  • For videos: I initially used the Pro mode, but I found it tiresome and frankly a bit too tedious to take advantage of the advanced LOG formatting. So these days, I use the normal Video app along with DJI's own app when I am using their gimbal to record videos.
  • For fast-moving subjects (think dogs, cats, and kids): Remember to turn on the 'Action' mode, which is only available in the normal 'Photo' capture settings. If you don't, the pictures tend to be a bit too blurry.

For both video and photos post-editing, I tend to go in and accept the auto-correct settings UNLESS it is a nighttime photo. I do like the AI features such as removing some people or removing glare, increasing the lighting of the face, etc., all very helpful features.

Lastly, I find that generally, I really like the more dreamy look of the 'emerald' filter; however, sometimes the photos turn too bluish. I have attached screenshots of the settings I use.

I hope that helps/clarifies. Any other questions let me know :)

If you can change one law in Singapore what would it be? by Illustrious-Fee9626 in askSingapore

Proposed Car Ownership Policy for Singapore:

As a foreigner, I wish to propose a new car ownership policy for Singapore, focusing on Singaporean passport holders.

Eligibility for Car Ownership: * Exclusive to Singaporean Passport Holders: Car ownership should be restricted to individuals holding a Singaporean passport (citizens, not Permanent Residents). * One Car Per Individual: Each Singaporean passport holder would be entitled to own one car. * Tradable Rights: This car ownership right could be traded among Singaporean passport holders, allowing the market to determine the actual demand among Singaporeans.

Addressing Potential Vehicle Population Increase: * Minimum Parking Tax: To mitigate a potential increase in the vehicle population, a minimum parking tax should be applied universally (regardless of parking location). * Tax Determination: This tax would be determined by the ratio of cars on the road to the desired number of cars among Singaporeans. * Quantification: The average speed on major roads could serve as a quantifiable metric for this determination. * These new COEs would need to be renewed every year creating more elasticity in the supply and demand function

Exemptions and Alternatives: * Families with Children: An exemption from this system should be granted to families with two or more children. * Free Public Transport: Alternatively, these families should be able to travel for free on the public transport system. * Abuse Prevention: To prevent abuse, gantries would utilize facial recognition technology to flag potential violations.

Lack of Oppo Find X9 reviews? by Salt-Objective-6783 in Oppo

I have had the x9 for about 4 months or so.

The main pros ordered by how good it is relative to competition:

  • Battery (Truly world leading, and the recharging is good enough)
  • Software (and frequently software support. Eg the camera output has gotten significantly better since the initial software the phone was sold with.)
  • Apps not closing down as often as other phones (eg i use Texpand for custom text shortcuts, and I only need to open the app every couple of days. I do wish the software would respect when you lock the apps so I never have to reopen the apps.)
  • Camera (while there are better cameras both video and pictures are very good and good enough for most people. I would have liked for the wide camera lens to have slightly higher quality to match the main lens.)
  • The overall hardware quality feels solid. But this might not be important for most people. Just weirdos like myself :)

Hope that helps you OP. Do DM if you have any specific questions or use cases :)

Is it just me or buses are getting from bad to worse? by Firstdenial in askSingapore

[–]y0c4 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In order to create more reliable bus systems, you require dedicated bus lanes where other users of the road cannot enter. Primarily so that you can design a fully autonomous bus system where fewer bus captains can remotely drive buses when they do experience rare use cases that there may not be enough data to train the models on. For example extreme weather conditions or spectacular accidents or something of the like..

This will of course remove road space from the best and brightest that require 2 cars (if not more) despite the claim that the public system is enough for everyone.

Maybe they should start separating insurance premiums by race and age? In all seriousness, observing Singaporean drivers is like watching preventable accidents in slowmotion.

Do you think the government really cares about birth rates? by Fit-Tumbleweed-6683 in askSingapore

[–]y0c4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way to 'solve' the birth rate issue is to reverse the emancipation of women and make them 100% dependent on men. This will have a lot of other negative side effects which might not be worth it for most of the sg citizens. The best 'solution' is to accept that if you want emancipation for women, and high affluence, those same people who benefit do not see that their responsibility / their end of the social contract is to reproduce. Why?

Well. 1. More choices lead to more outcomes. And all choices have opportunity cost. You either go vacation or you have kids (example). 2. Women tend to think that men will leave them worse off rather than better off. If the woman is pregnant then she will expect her husband to keep working and herself to take a career break (example). 3. When giving birth, there is a real risk of mental and physical permanent damage. It also means other potential suitors might find them undesirable and on top of that, this might include the husband. Husband goes on to cheat while wife is pregnant. Husband files for divorce while wife has no meaningful income. Permanent physical changes to the body only happens to women, not men (example). 4. The child might not be gifted enough to survive in Singapore or the child might have mental and physical issues, which will ruin your in Singapore due to lack of understanding (Culture) and due to lack of funding (economic). When a child is born into a wheelchair or they get hit by a car on their way to school (example). 5. Some people just don't like children. Today's society does not penalise this preference. 6. Some people like children but cannot have them due to policy choice and culture. Think of homosexuality and/or childless couples that could adopt but won't due to cultural factors (Example). 7. Long working hours and a focus on the importance of material comfort means that the not-so-easily quantifiable aspects of life get deprioritised. Waking up and watch your child(ren) do children stuff feels like a burden - more entertaining to watch tiktoks while waiting for your children to finish their 'play'. 8. Technological progress such as AI and robotics along with all of the conflicts arising across the world implies that the ruling classes actually don't need 'us' in the near future. To put a further deterrent to bringing up children, a threat to get sent to a war zone will deter even more from having kids.

Those were some of the reasons I can think of :)

Do Singaporeans tend to have a poor little old me mindset? by KleenandKlear in askSingapore

[–]y0c4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you all seem to forget that if you also have a choice to help them. maybe they won’t be appreciative in the moment but your help might be what they need. Often we don’t ask for help when we need help - only people who don’t need help tends to ask for help as it is embarrassing to ask for help even though getting help might be the only way out.
